OK !!!!!!!!! ... I think I have solved this one ...

So I couldn't stop thinking about this - so I called True Temper. Got a VERY cool guy on the phone. I explained why I was calling & thread etc and the confusion on the tipping issue - and that we are confused as to what the real answer is.

When I asked "How much do you tip a STEEL shaft" .. He [size=5][b]INSTANTLY[/b][/size] said " INCH & 1/4"

So we both were looking at the PDF on the site where it says "zero tip trim" ... and here's what I [b]THINK[/b] & him as well happened

Since True Temper now owns Project X - When you go to their site - the trimming instructions are next to the [b]GRAPHITE[/b] shaft area - which is correctly ZERO trim on the PX Black shafts.

When you go to the [b]DG steel[/b] area - it says "see tipping Chart Page 1". That appears to be an unintentional error - and they are now looking into that .

So the real answer is is appears drumdude is RIGHT ON THE MONEY !!!! ... YOU DA MAN !!!

I just ordered another arsenal of steely's and I am going to build a few correctly .. but I gotta say an X100 untipped is really good for me. I like the extra flex and feel - and its still so stable I just cant put it down

I was thinkin Cleveland Classic or 3Deep...

Will give it a shot after I get the head and start testing shafts.... Definitely won't overlook a range session with an x100

Because of the weight of the steel shaft, you can cut your driver much shorter which improve consistency. Feel is also very different. Don't know how to describe it but it feels very solid at impact. Almost like a flushed tee shot with a 3 iron.
I see that you have a Kusala black 72x in your 310. How is it? Pretty cool setup! Ball probably cuts right through the wind, eh?

I just put a rifle shaft in my 3 hybrid it feels absolutely awesome! Just the right amount of weight too it perfection at its finest.

Got everything cut to length and gripped last night. Hope to hit today.

My driver ended up being 43.75 inches with a D1-D2 swing weight. Was hopping for shorter and heavier SW. May add a head tip weight if I think I need it.

Also put a X100 in a 975f 18.5* head I had. I was hoping for it to be shorter as well. Ended up at 41 inches and a D2 swing weight.

Hmm. First range session with a steely XHP and I'm not overly impressed. On stock smooth swings, it's straight as an arrow but relatively short. When I go after it at all, it's high and right. I would say I usually drive it around 280-290, and I think the farthest one I hit out of 40ish balls is probably 270 with the majority going around 250. I was hitting my 3 deep past it. I guess we will see how it performs on the course but as of now steely may be on the chopping block.

I am having driver issues-- the ball flight goes slightly right with a very right slice ending (I am right handed). The promise of more control from the driver with a steel shaft intrigued me.

Thinking of putting a S300 shaft at 43" in my Taylormade R7 425 9.5* driver. What does everyone think about this combination? Any recommendations? Should I do it in my Titleist 983K 10.5* head instead?

I play a S300 shaft in a 9.5° TM R580 @ 43.5" (I'm 6'4" with a WTF of 39") and love it.
