"That" guy on the range

I love breaking out the popcorn when these threads pop up. It's either "He has RBZ everything with a staff bag and shanks it" or "He drives a Ferrari and shanks the ball" or "He had a FJ/Titleist Staff shirt, SE Ryder cup Adidas Powerbands, Travis Mathew Belt buckle, and White UA Black Heat pants.... and oh yeah.... he shanked it."

I can only imagine what people think about me at the range. I don't look good, I don't play well, I drive an older SUV and my fiance isn't a supermodel.

I can't decide whats worse in these threads, those who dress to call attention to themselves, or those who care enough to say they are better than "that guy."

Amen to that!

I use golf clubs, 14 to be exact!  Mostly my putter though!

I'm guessing loudmouth is the golf equivalent of tapout and ed hardy shirts. Damnit, if you are walking around in a tapout t-shirt with your chest poked out.. you better have knocked out atleast a handful of people in your lifetime.

I'm realizing that my R11 driver and woods are drawing attention at the range, it kind of makes me regret the white. I'm more of an under the radar kind of guy, especially with golf since I have very little confidence in my game. I do wear Nike Dri-Fit shirts but only the darker colors.
Yeah, I'd be hiding that white R11 when you play with the CEO, he may start thinking he's paying the "IT Guy" too much ;)
LMAO! I can see it now "WRX HELP! Went golfing with CEO, got pay cut". Then I'd tell him the story about how I scour ebay for hours on end finding other people's 'trash' and turning it into a treasure haha.

People, humans in general, aren't exactly known for pointing out the good things. Take the news for example. One day though, a thread will be made ,"Johnny Joe Bob hits the range wearing easter bunny costume with clown shoes and hits all balls perfectly straight"

It does amaze me that the "holier than though" commentators on this thread indicate that they would NOT comment or judge if they saw what I saw. I mean really?

You go to the range and see a guy in bright lime green shirt with LONG flowery pink/lime green pants (in 95* heat in Florida, in SUMMER), shanking 5 balls in a row, then fatting 5 balls (1-handed for Pete's sake), then laying the sod over half the balls he hits, and you would not judge or comment on a golf forum?

Instead you bash the person for posting about it. Wow..... just wow. Tough crowd.

I think if everyone is honest with themselves, if you see someone show up on the range dressed that way and with a highend equipment set up you probably are going to make an initial judgement. You're going to pay him just a little bit extra attention to see what kind of move he puts on the ball, I really think that is just human nature, and it's neither good or bad, it's just how we are.

Personally, I admire someone who has the balls to wear something like that, because I certainly don't. We have a chiropractor who routinely wears the loud clothing, but he has a big personality and they seem to fit his persona. I think people notice what he's wearing then never give it second thought (he's probably right around age 50).

I actually liked JD's pants he wore on Sunday at the PGA. My wife and daughter have both seen loudmouth stuff in the golf stores, they threaten to buy me some but back off when I threaten that if they do I'll wear it when I'm out with them.

Probably just one of those guys out to have a good time and cares less when people interrupt their days and spend time discussing his attire, and making fun of his swing.

Lots of us out there, cant believe you girls really come in here and banter back and forth about stuff like this.

Shouldnt this post be in the "Cosmo" or "What not to Wear" section?

Have a good day guys.

Im honestly more surprised you knew they were "luminous green" than anything.

This was the outfit (except he was about 50 lbs heavier than the guy in the photo).

Look... I don't have issues with the outfit. I don't have issues with shanks. I don't have issues with white TM clubs (I use a Burner driver).

I was commenting on the total package. The fact that after 1, 2, 3, and the FOUR shanked/fatted shots, he proceeded to hit another 1-handed shank/fat shot. He was CLEARLY a VERY pretentious guy.

Thanks not my style. I guess it is the style for some here. I thought situation AS A WHOLE was comical.

I just looked at the Golf Style and Accessories forum. There's a thread/poll there about white pants. 680 some people have participated in the poll. You think this thread is bad?

op how many people wearing loudmouth have you walked up to and called a clown to their face?
There's no need to humiliate someone like that in public, however walking stereotypes are funny to the majority of society. A lot of humor comes at the expense of someone. If you can't take a joke then you'd better stay out of the comedy clubs! ;)

Did you NEVER laugh at Mr. Howell on Gilligan's Island?

Talking about how stupid some people make themselves look online amongst others who agree has the effect of not singling any one particular person out but yet giving everyone a laugh.

Jeez...lighten up everyone. Stop making everything a crusade.

Some people make themselves look stupid...deal with it.

And if you think I'm stupid for saying the above you are 100% not like me. People gotta be able to take a joke in life.
I have no problem with jokes, just dont think its funny to bash a guy online when you cant do it to his face.

id also like to say its unfair to group people who wear LM with rickie fowler wannabes. I mean there is probably less than 10 people in the world try to be like john daly . The rest of us are basically just saying suck it to the golf stereotypes. When did golf become a fashion show? The point of loudmouth isnt to win a fashion show or be stylish, its the complete opposite. I dont wear them when i wanna look decent, i wear them to go out and have a fun laid back game of golf with friends.

I don't really care how people hit on the range or what they are wearing. The important part is that they are actually at the practice range attempting to get better. Its kinda like when you see a fat guy jogging. At first I'm like, "oh thats funny" but they I realize hey you gotta start somewhere right? At least the fat guy is jogging and not at home on the couch.

I guess my point is worry about yourself and don't judge.

What's so surprising? You mock this guy as if you have a "right" to do so because he put himself on public display. Yet you did the exact same thing by starting this thread and passing judgement on someone because the shots you saw him hit didn't justify the clothes he wore, in your opinion. That seems pretty shallow and insecure.

Why does it bother you? What does it matter?? If you're going to call a guy a "clown" because of that, then I'd think you'd also be morally accepting of the same kind of criticism coming your way. Or is "bashing" one way with you?

Believe it or not, not everyone gives a s*** what random strangers like yourself think about how they dress or play.

(no I do not wear loud outfits, in case you're wondering)

Just so I am clear....

The guy hitting 4 fat shots, then having the nerve to keep trying (practicing let me remind you) made him a "CLEARLY a CERY pretentious guy"

You do the game of golf no good with garbage like this. If you want this game to not inflate in price/cost how bout we just welcome the guy to the range and let him enjoy his practice however he likes it. You think the game of golf will continue to grow (the only way golf gets cheaper is by having more golfers to bring the price down) if you keep posting this trash about people you dont know? This stigmatizes what some people like about golf, and I think its just in poor character.

Listen, Im one to joke around, and make fun of people, but I do it in private/with the people Im with. I dont go online to alienate a group of the fanbase I belong to. I welcome these guys, they are spending money on golf, whether its with Loudmouth or the Pro Vs he is shanking into the woods, its money/economic impact on the game in your local area.

The last thing the game needs is guys like him logging on to find threads like this and decide he will play Tennis instead since he can wear his loudmouth shorts out there and not worry about finding a write up on his swing/outfit online.

Just saying, I know you were trying to be funny, but I think its kinda sad. How old are we again?

Worth noting, but the current "traditional" golf attire is not too far from a fast food worker's uniform. Put a big yellow "M" on your polo shirt and ball cap or visor, and maybe I'm hitting you up for some french fries.

I wouldn't cling to those standards too tightly. If we're not going back to suits and vests and ties, maybe welcome something different, hmm?

You're right. I mean, there are plenty of people who come at it from a great perspective but at the same time, you do it enough or beyond a certain point and a lot of the people who don't include "fashion" as a priority on the golf course are going to judge you. It also happens that a lot of those people who don't bother with "fashion" happen to be the better local players.

I have a friend who loves wearing loud colors. It's not about being too chicken to tell him what I think, it's that I don't mind it, I have my own body to clothe and personally I know that deep down he gets a thrill outing the fashion thing and it would probably hurt his feelings if I went off on him and what kind of a ****** bag would I be to do that in the first place?

But still, it doesn't stop me from laughing at the guys I don't know who pretend they're 75 pounds lighter than they really are or 25 years younger! :taunt:

I actually am considered a loud dresser, though I don't shop loudmouth. I am not afraid of plaid or madras. I look back to the 80s and realize I like the music (not Culture Club, but alternative 80s) so I may as well dress the part. I wonder if it was me that was hitting next to him, hmm.

My guess from reading this and many other iterations of this thread is that most folks go to the range dress in Carhartt overalls and swinging clubs from the 1970s, and can drive a nail on the 250 stake Moe Norman style while laughing at this "guy". I learned a long time ago in junior golf to never pay any attention to how someone dresses or what they play and to just do my own thing. I for one would rather see this person and his loud attire over the 10000 folks dressed like this guy. ;)

Yeah, but that's different.

You're talking about someone who's dressed down. The conversation is about people who dress up.

The purpose of dressing up in the manor being discussed is inherently to send a message to other people's eyes. Bright, flashy clothes are meant to be noticed. There's nothing wrong with not being able to afford (or choosing not to purchase) expensive, bright fabrics because that's not always something someone can control.

When you purposefully spend your money on things that are designed to bring attention to yourself...

...do you guys all see how that's different?

I hope so, because without sounding like the voice of God here, I would just point out to you all that it's completely hypocritical to say that a person has to right to scream for my attention but that I don't have the right to judge that person based on how they present themselves in doing so. It's not alright to say that an entity cannot form some type of a value-judgement on another entity which is purposefully doing something that is designed to grab attention by it's being so abnormal.
