The Rareguitar outing in Va Beach was another example of the moron showing his true colors. Rareguitar (Brad) put out a lot of time and money to make that happen and those of us who went were treated to a TPC course set up for PGA. We played TPC Virginia Beach the week before the Va Beach Open.

Where Mandal-boy could have shown up with a bucket of clubs and had a good chance of selling them all, he didn't show at all. Didn't support the outing with prizes or discounted prizes. And later, turned on Brad when he was showing off his different clubs and toys. (His Ferrari was sweet!)

That was a tough pill to swallow for those of us that had been invited into his home to meet his wife and children and enjoy a nice BBQ/kegger that he set up. It was easy to see who the good guy was and who was the POS.

After that, every time he would ban/alienate a good member, a dozen other members would leave with the good guy.
I was waiting for someone to mention this! One of the most hyped events on BSG and he didn't show!!! If I remember correctly the weather was bad and nobody shot below 80? Talk about excuses.... :taunt:
It was windy as all get out, four to five clubs at times, but it was sunny and warm and the course was absolutely perfect. There were a few people who broke 80. I was tied for the lead after the first day with 76. The GM of TPC VB ended up winning when he shot one of the best 72s I'd ever seen in my life on the second day to beat me by eight. He didn't take the entry into the Nationwide Monday Qualifier though so it went to the other guy in our threesome who was hungover as hell and ended up shooting 76 again after almost packing it in on the sixth hole because he could barely walk.

The course was perfect, the greens were rock hard and rolling at 14. I saw one ball back up the entire weekend. A punch lob wedge into the wind from 60 yards. It backed up about a foot after it hit and hopped. Of course the wind died down for the Nationwide guys on Monday and the guy who won the tournament shot something silly like -23.

We had a lot of fun with the headcover. TheVelvetCat (I miss Rusty) showed off his craftsmanship and added a subtle change to the headcover. The BANNED cover made it all over the country. Everyone that was on vacation until 2036 loved it and wanted to have it photographed on their bag. Note Sam's matching hat and lime green polo:

I still have that headcover in my garage. The A is coming unglued but it's still kicking.

I took it to the North Carolina BSG Outting after I'd already been banned before I mailed it off to Sammy for the Houston Outttting I couldn't attend. Todd was not amused when he saw the pictures

Wow, this thread brings back a lot of memories. Mostly of email exchanges with Todd telling him he was losing the site and why and him eventually banning me until, you guessed it 2036. I don't remember when I joined here but I know it was early and since the fallout of everything, I had pretty much signed off on golf forums. Especially since I've had the same set of clubs in my bag since 2005.

Brad put so much time and effort into that outting it was an absolute disgrace to read the reasons from Todd why he couldn't/wouldn't attend. After talking to those that had played with him in the past it quickly became apparent that it was because he coulnd't play to the level they said they could and they didn't want to be figured out. I made a lot of great friends on BSG, including Stage, and I've kept in contact with several of them over the last five or six years since we were all "Exiled" for various reasons including BLav28 who is my regular golfing buddy here in San Diego these days.

A lot has changed in my life in the last five years, I got married, did three deployments with the Navy, had another kid, and moved to San Diego, but through it all, those guys that I became good friends with on BSG have always been there to keep me laughing. Even when I was 9,000 miles away with crappy internet access on a frigate bobbing along in the Persian Gulf.

It's nice to see what this place has become. I'll have to start perusing around the forums again and get caught up on the latest stuff now that I'm off of a ship and actually have a little time to play every once in a while. Congrats on the site easyyy, it has come a really long way!

I do indeed. I tried a couple of other sets when I came back home from my most recent deployment, but I can't seem to hit any set of irons better than those. They are the only thing that fits my eye for some reason.

This thread should be required reading for newbies like myself (if someone hasn't pointed that out already). Not to get all sociological--but I didn't waste five years at a liberal arts college for nothing--this thread reminds me of archived stories from any community...oral (or in this case, forum posted) history is important...this thread is important. Thanks to all for contributing.

Love reading this! Brings back lots of memories... I have been a member here for quite some time, i would imagine one of the first hundred or so...I don't post here nearly as much as I did on bsg, mostly because I no longer have the time on my hands, but as much as bsg is bashed, I wouldn't be even half of the club junkie I am today without that and who knows if this amazing place would be around without it. I remember the days of constantly looking on gypsygolf.com, golf club trader, I think it was golf digests for sale area as well as pillaging around the used club bins at every store around. I am addicted and in love with this stuff! I look forward to the witb photos from the few players that show up on Monday and the over analyzation of the winners bag on Sunday evening... And then it starts all over again! I love to see how much things have evolved since the days of searching for pat. pending ping putters! I am a golf professional, I own my own golf shop and I still find myself buying and trying new things from club ho's like myself. This is a blast and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next 10 years. Thanks to everyone who makes this site work, I truly love it and look forward to logging on each and every day.

cool thread, I've only been a member for a couple years and besides a dedicated putter site this is the only golf site I belong to. Fun to hear the stories of how everything came together.

I have had the pleasure of golfing with a few members in the thread. And had the treat of a round with stage, who by the way kills the ball. I remember him letting me hit his x flex 100 gram 3 wood, me hitting it about 4 ft off the ground and happy that I made contact:).

Also got to play with a group of Cleveland WRXers at the Quarry in canton, OH. Had a ton of fun and enjoyed stories and drinks after with the group.

I really enjoy the site and the funny comments from certain members (MTLjeff, stage and thrill house come to mind). Hope the site continues to be a success.

I have always been interested into hearing the back story of how GolfWRX was created? I am sure the desire to share information, discuss equipment. courses and share experiences was the reason why it was created. With Easyyy and GXGolfer as the founders. How did this all start? What was this place like when there were only a few members?

I don't know if anyone else would be interested in hearing some details about this success story. But I think it would be cool if some of the oldest members or founders could share a few details.
i would be very interested in hearing the beginning story

I have to totally agree with you on this one. The history of this site being what it is, you can trace back many roots of many members to that other site, myself included. I think it's a good thing that the same questions I posted many years ago are the same ones being posted here. The tradition of club ho'ing is being kept very alive and very well.

This is a great read, to be completely honest I did have the wool pulled over my eyes to some extent on the performance of the product that was offered by BSG but I never bought a $1000 lime green shaft (I have a couple but sure as heck didn't spend that much on them!)

I realised something was up when guys like Stage were "leaving" the site, a few strange edits of posts and such were going on.

When it all hit the fan there I found golfwrx and am so much better for it!

Thank you to Richard, Ryan and all of the others who keep this site online it is the best site I have ever come across for golf content.

Jer, not sure about having a good memory but here are a few from wwwwaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back... :)

cclaeys, Cory, ChainSaw, amajeski, Jer, Tom from Alabama but can't remember his user name, 63wagon, AkFly, alcap26, Boonie, Didier, Jack0,...theInsider, Prozach (kascoPro) and berou came later... I give up for now but there were no less than 15 others who were regulars. This gang went through more than (6) chat rooms before settling in here. I haven't been anywhere since then, with the exception of "The New GO" but I'm not sure if they / we have a chat room there or not. No one chats now...too bad too cause it's the most fun, and the best way to come up with ideas to post from.

KascoPro was bugging me to join here, and when he finally convinced me to? I was #382 I believe. We were all looking for the best chat room to hang our hats...

p.s. And in all those chat rooms (6), and all the trades, barters, and buys, I can't remember anyone every getting messed over in a B/S/T...strictly the honor system but all the chat gang were trust worthy for sure...
What do mean 'were' trustworthy old man!

Good to see all the names listed (I'm glad you remembered your own son), brings back plenty of memories. Like others, I went via GO to BSG to WRX (with stops at GD and TSG also). I was never into the really technical side of golf, but did go through a mini 'tour issue' phase. Never bought direct from the old site (except for one of those 2 dot TM wedges - which I still use!!!), but was reasonably active in the BST for a while.

The chat was definitely the highlight for me though. As Mac says it was a really good group of guys that felt like we knew each other pretty well. If I was to take a trip to the US, I would definitely make an effort to catch up with a couple of the guys. Mac knows what beer to have ready for me :drinks:

I still come here if I need some info or review on a club - just don't really post any more. Not really sure why, nothing against the site, Richard and the guys have done a great job with it.

I'd completely forgotten how the 'chat group' got in trouble over there, funny stuff.

Wow, lots of great memories and old names coming out from Golf Opinions to the present. I remember being one of the first few hundred members of wrx then stepped away from golf for a while, forgot my log in info and created my current one today. While I don't post as much as others, I truly value the sharing of opinions and culture of helping fellow golf fans, even if perspectives differ, in a respectful and open manner aligned with the inherent qualities of the game. For many of the newer members I would recommend looking for Demolition Man's farewell post. One of the greatest posters ever who stepped away to concentrate on what's truly important in life. I think of it periodically when I need to make sure my priorities are in the right place. Many thanks to the mods and key contributors who work tirelessly (and many times thanklessly) in providing all of us this invaluable place to visit.

Thank you for posting, pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Just the tidbit of information given in that post sounds like a really cool success story. Other site is broken, start something new, better and run it the way it should be ran. I had no idea that WRX was spawned in that fashion.

It would be cool to hear what happened after that. Did the founders have experience in running forums? Did they just do research, hire consultants and start from scratch? How many members were there at the initial launch?
It's not my place to post the details of the origins or other stories about drama but let me tell you, the Golf WRX biography book would be a best seller.

My family owns a few successful small business and I have always been intrigued with how they were started and what the beginnings were like. That is why I am interested in this story. I am not looking to start any drama or dig too deep into information that is none of my business. If this thread turns into drama, I hope the mods lock it and delete as it was never my intentions.

Having only been here a couple of years now, I suppose I'm still a relative newbie. I'm glad I did though- it all started with a Google search because I'd never even seen a driver with an X shaft before, and had no idea how to start! Everyone was patient, courteous, and generous with their knowledge and helped me along my way. Now, I try to do the same with all the knowledge I've learned, and it's great to see others carrying on the tradition as well. Whatever rocky foundations this site was founded on, you've now got several generations (in internet years) of users who are keeping it going.

The best part about this site is the community. Hell, look at the MD Golfers thread. We've created a group so large there it's got its own gravitational field! Most of us started golfing together last year and it's been a great pleasure knowing that a lot of the like minds online are even better guys in person.

Just a rhetorical question though- I still see lots of raised eyebrows when it comes to some OEMs, and the subject of tour-issue equipment. Does anyone think that might be a latent sentiment due to people getting screwed on BSG?

That is a great read. Like so many others I was on BSG a lot, Golf Opinions, 4GEA, Freegolfinfo, golfdiscussions...if it was a messageboard I wanted in on it.

I got a real distaste for Todd's "iron fist" and the ability to have an opinion on WRX that wouldn't get shot down from the Admins was appreciated. I am one of the early members but it took a little bit for me to fully convert. Now I check in 3-5 times a day sometimes MORE. I know the ownership at BSG has changed but from the lack of posts, you can see the damage is done and its too bad because the new owner is paying for Todd's mess. BTW, anyone ever hear from RareGuitar anymore? He was a great guy to talk too. Does he ever come here?

I have met numerous people on WRX and 4GEA who I am lucky to call friends not just golfing buddies. I recommend this site as often as I can.

Wow what a great read, definitely a trip down memory lane.

I got started at TSG years ago, maybe 03 or 04? I can remember chatting with many of the people in this thread(I was Minimal302) and having the best time. When Zojo was mentioned in this thread I literally started laughing, great times.

I joined here after countless great posters were banned from BSG. It wasn't really busy here yet but it just felt like home. I haven't posted much over the years but always enjoyed reading and learning. This place is such a wealth of knowledge, so much so that I encourage all of my employees to read here as much as they can.

Thank you all for creating such an amazing place for us to call home. Keep up the great work.

Super late to this party as I only started logging in recently after a hiatus from golf in general. Really cool to see so many familiar names again.

I was on GO and then BSG after buying a Tourstage driver from Todd and he invited me to join BSG. I was member # 17 or so over there under sy808 (I changed my tag here when I started to "defect"). I had a lot of good times there and stayed a lot longer than many except maybe kev. I don't have much to add to what those like kev, stage, and others have already shared. I migrated here just to check it out and slowly the "wool over my eyes" began to be lifted. It seems stupid now to think how I could have been so blind but I had developed trust in those I met there and it was the only world I knew. Brad's (rareguitar) get together and lack of support from BH was the first flag that started me to wonder about things. It seemed so obvious that BSG should support this and when they not only didn't support it but actually spoke negatively (knowing Brad was such a great guy) it didn't sit right. Then came some of Robo's Cobra posts that were quelled, etc. Once I was able to accept the truth, things that I had experienced in some purchases all of a sudden went from looking like "innocent mistakes" to "underhanded".

All in the past now and I'm very glad to be here and thankful for the work Richard, et. al put into this place. It is the only place I ever check when I want the lowdown on equipment or anything golf.

Wasn't the guy who went pro in Canada "StewartBynanantine" or something like that?

And @Seasuks - good to see you again, and I still have a word document that starts with the words "Angry Dragon" ...I think you will remember that one. Good times.

Thanks for posting. Looks like we found a place for the long haul.

In our journey here we have found good times and learning curves. But the most reassuring thing we have here is our principles. No matter what ever happens here we can retool and allways be true to why we started here.

I am new here and by some fluke I read that post by demolitionman. First time I read it was kind of difficult for me to read yet intriguing. Guess I could relate but was not ready to fully accept that I was heading the exact same way. A couple of weeks later i came to think of that post and I read it again this time removing the blindfold from my eyes and confronted that I indeed had started to move along the same track.

Thanks to his post I caught myself in time and changed my habits radically. The post just hit home so clean once I really confronted my own situation. Its bin a while now and I have not "fallen back" into the dark road and i have thought many times that I owe demolitionman a huge thank you. If any of you still have some contact with him please let him know that his "last post" did a world of change for this weird dude in Denmark still 4 years after he wrote it and please tell him how much he helped me.

Also I would really like to now how he is doing now. I really hope he is doing all great again.

That being said I thank the creators of this site. I haven't even been a member for a year and I have learned so much. Especially through this site I got to read Ernest Jones and Manuel de la Torre. Which has been just the thing for me.

In a week I go for a month to stay in Clearwater Florida. Who knows if i see a real life WRX'er on one of the courses
