Pure745's 2013 Shootout - THE OVEN setup added 6/13

Awww snap! Your OCD might be in full effect if you go RFX for driver because the razr fit fairway doesn't seem as solid as the others...in my testing anyways.

I actually think the FD compliments the RFX quite well if you can stand to mix and match. Both with similar finish and a rather muted sound.

In the end can't go wrong with any of these offerings.

Lol Joe! My OCD is always in effect! Thinking out loud.. got the XHP and 913 setups out today on the course. I liked the 913 better than the XHP for a few reasons. I like the larger head and the adjustability makes it a lot better for me at address. I also prefer the feel and sound, and seems more forgiving for me. Distance would go to the XHP, but not by a lot. The XHP driver is solid for sure, but the RFX feels and looks much better to me. The XHP driver feels very "tinny" compared to the RFX which feels much more solid when struck well. I can't argue with the on course results with the XHP driver, it is very good. The 3 woods are so close, the 913 wins because it wins most of the categories I care about, but loses the distance by a nose.

I stopped at my local store and got the 913's and RFX's in one of their manufacturer fitting rooms (better LM's and better hitting conditions) and the RFX's were getting better #'s than the 913's, but again, not by much. My next step is to get the RFX's set up and try them out on the course for a few rounds to see how they perform. The big question mark for the RFX was the 3 wood. Looking past the hype of the XHP, the RFX is very solid. I actually prefer the way it feels and sounds to the XHP, and complements the driver more. The XHP driver feels very "tinny" and hollow, where the 3 wood feels very solid and muted - kind of throws me off. The numbers on the LM for the RFX were very solid since I had no idea what to expect - the adjustability and the way it sets up behind the ball is also better to me than the XHP.

Just my thoughts so far..

Anyone know the sizes of the XHP and RFX 3 woods? I can't find the cc's anywhere.

i just picked up my 15* 913Fd last night with the 83gram Diamana D+ whiteboard stiff. best feeling 3 wood ive hit since the 906 series 3woods from a few years back. im gaming an 8.5* 913D2 as well with a 46" RIP a60 stiff shaft in it. Titleist may not always be the longest but its very forgiving and has incredible feel. not going to lie when i say im pulling for the 913 stuff.

I would venture to guess that the XHP is around 160-165, and the RFX is 150-155. They're close but the RFX is definitely smaller.

After reading all this I didn't expect the 913s to be in the mix. I figured it would come down to the TM R1/ RBZ2 vs the RFE setups. I haven't hit the 3 woods from either but I did just pick the RFE driver over the rest.
Tai, was it just the 3wd that brought the 913s up in the plan or did the driver hold its own even with less ball speed?

Same here, biggest surprise for me was the 913 3 wood holding its own.
Trust me, I didn't expect the 913's to be where they are right now in the shoot out. I had them pretty much written off, but testing them for the sake of testing them. The 3 wood was definitely the club that grabbed my attention, and I have always liked the 913D3 and have always thought it was good but I was waiting to hit everything else since it got released earlier than all of the new stuff.

Now that I have hit everything, I'm not as impressed as I thought I would be by some of the setups I was eagerly awaiting and that is what is making the 913's stand out even more. You also have to keep in mind that I'm not banging balls into a net and picking what has better numbers. I have been hitting these clubs on a grass range for multiple sessions, on an outdoor trackman, and side by side with the ball I play on my home course hitting the same shots and seeing what club actually does what. The 913 definitely holds it's own on the course, even though the #'s are lower on the Trackman.

The RFE's are definitely solid, and I feel they might be longer than the 913's. I think the deciding factor will be the playability and forgiveness which I think is one of the 913's biggest attributes given how great they look and feel.

Original post updated and will add to that as well once I get some more feedback on these clubs.. one thing that cannot be denied, they are GORGEOUS! Can't wait to get them on the course. The TS 7.2 from the XHP is already in this one, have to get the 3 wood done next.

BTW Tai, I'm putting my money on the 913's. I'm thinking the 3 wood is going to end up being the X-factor when it's all said and done.
I kind of think that he will go with the RFX, being able to play an 8.5 driver vs 7.5 is a big factor. I agree though that the 3 wood is the X factor.

Interesting.. How do you think the D3 will do against the RFE? My home course is punching it's greens on the 19th so I'm bummed out that I won't be playing there this week - it's a great track to really see how these things perform (forced carries, tee shots with a lot of trouble, etc..) but I'll definitely be getting the two clubs outdoor on the range to see how that goes. I think it will really depend on how good the RFE 3 wood is off the tee, and how much better (if at all) the RFE driver is compared to the D3.

When is the final fight taking place?
No real final fight, might be wrapped up by the end of this month depending on how things go on the course. Sorry for the length of this shoot out, it's a little different when it's your own money and none of this stuff is free  I'm taking my time to make the best decision for my game without the honeymoon effect or #freegear-ier effect.. and giving my un-biased opinion to those interested as this thing shakes out :)

It's been an interesting shootout so far. Both setup are pretty damn nice. I personally think both will be solid performers.

So is the R1 officially out of the picture?

Pretty much. I definitely prefer the Tour head to the OTR, but after the dust has somewhat settled, there are better options for me from other OEMs.

Copy. I recently picked up the R1 V2 and I got similar results. While the R1 V2 was deep, my 913 D3 is truly a fairway finder. I'm looking forward to see how the RFE stacks up.

the RFX flights the ball so nicely. very penetrating flight.... that is the advantage as you mentioned to the 913. you can achieve the same flight - but are required to go down in loft - which is not conducive to straight.

honestly can't go wrong with either set...

Did the Covert Tour not make the early cut or did you not like the 3 wood or something else? Seems like with the success you had with the LTD's they would be at least in the discussion. On the other hand, there are so many good options out there this year that it's tough/expensive to give them all a fair shake down.

My initially impression with the RFX was how flat the flight is. No steep angles at all, just a nice arching shape.
