Pure745's 2013 Shootout - THE OVEN setup added 6/13

Got the RFE's out today to a tough track that I have only played once a while ago. Needless to say, the RFE's performed beyond my expectations. I ended up shooting 73 with two really dumb bogeys.. the driver and 3 wood are VERY solid. The 3 wood was better than I thought and looks like this setup will be staying in the bag. I still have to get the RFE's and 913s out side by side to confirm this, but after today's round, I think it might be over.
Nice. RFX won my shootout too. I have the XHP 3w, have not tried the rfx 3w, is it long?

I need to get it on to my old home course to verify everything from today's round (at my new home course). The RFE was steady all day on an unfamiliar track, and distances were definitely good. The main thing I noticed from the XHP and RFE was the launch and flight characteristics between the two. The XHP hits lasers for me, low/low type of performance. The RFE had a higher launch that flattened out and had a very low spin and lower AoD than the 913 did for me, which is what I am really impressed with. The XHP almost looks like my driver when I hit it with the way it launches. The RFE driver is definitely a touch longer than the 913's with similar playability and forgiveness. I might be crazy, but I found it to be a little more forgiving than the XHP with less sidespin on slightly off center hits. I found the RFE to launch higher than the XHP and flatten out and what seemed to be a lower AoD than the 913, the XHP driver, again, was low/low laser type of flight.

Edit: meant AoD, not AoA.

RFE is a cannon for me also. I felt like I had a fling with my old girlfriend. Sound and feel like the older FT-9 ta . Awesome head.

Definitely a nice surprise for me. I was all set on the R1 V2 :) How do you compare the RFE to the XHP?

Tai - installed a Rombax 8Z08 X flex in my 913Fd 15 and it's amazing!!! Still with my 913D3 ADBB-7S. You've seen my 910H 19* VTS silver 85X, but also just added 913H with D+ 105X. Great clubs :)

Also got the 009 Putter Studio back from the Custom Shop (COA #A023097) ... on the DL with all black paintfill. Wish I were down there playing

Hey Tai...I am finding the more I hit the RFE I am liking it more...for different reasons than the XHP..which I would play in an instant still. I am really liking the XHP 3 wood and the RFE 5 wood combo too...both are stellar and do their respective jobs very well!!

So it sounds like for the 3 woods the x hot is the lowest/launch spin but less control/feel. 913 has the control, feel and forgiveness but doesn't have as "hot" of a flight as the x hot. Razr is somewhere in the middle, best of both worlds? Is this about right?

I'm tempted to wait to see the deep face x hot but I have a feeling that it's not going to be as practical as the 3 you have narrowed it down to.

I like the RFE a lot better than the XHP, pretty much across the board, but I would also game the XHP in an instant as well. The XHP 3 wood is really good too, but the overall playability and the adjustability of the dual cog put it ahead of the XHP for me there as well. The sound and feel of that composite construction is really good! I don't know.. it's definitely working for me. The RFE's might be some of the best looking woods I have seen since the Yonex Ezone's, they are gorgeous on the course, and the lime green paint on the bottom doesn't look as bad out on the course as it does in my living room lol :)

The XHot is really low/low, less control, but feel is solid. The 913 is very playable, looks/feel/sound are great, ball speed is slower, but very low spin to make up for the lack of speed. From what I saw today, the RFE is basically the 913 but hotter and longer, still workable, great sound/feel (composite), and maybe a touch less forgiving but not by much. The best off the tee was the RBZ 2 Tour, but not as workable and higher launch that the XHP.

When are you going to put them on the BST because if you get rid of the TS 8.2x for the FD I'd gladly take it off your hands. And to the 913FD. I had the 910fd and thought that would never leave the bag. I put a tour ad di 8x in it and it took a little getting used to because in my 910 I had a V2 85 x which is was a little lower launching. Once I got used to the AD it was an awesome combo. I love it off the tee because thats where I use it mostly but it sets up so much better off the deck than the 910. A guy on our team has the x hot fairway wood with a rombax 8z07 or whatever its called. That thing is a bomber but I honestly hit it so far that its not what I need it for. Essentially that club is a high launch driver. I was wondering how you got all these clubs, how much did you drop on these combos, and what is your day job because clearly I need to apply to get it. This has been so informational reading your feedback Im glad you did this. BHG

Tai you are the man I would like to hear your comparison of the rfe vs 913 series. I am currentley gaming the 913d3 and the 913 fd with the fubuki k and I will let you now tai the fd feel looks and sound are spot on.

After a pretty long range session today (outdoors, grass) hitting the 913 FD v. RFE - I will say that I prefer the RFE in the driver for many reasons, and the 3 woods are a toss up. The RFE 3 wood is a little longer/hotter good for good I would say about 10 yards with the RFE. The 913 is more forgiving and is equally low in spin, and launches a touch higher. They both look and feel incredible.. but the RFE is GORGEOUS!!

Right now it looks like the RFE's.. BUT, I need more course time to validate this. I don't want this to be like the Cobra S9 Pro D's that were gorgeous at first and then sucked after a few rounds. Need to make sure these are the real deal, especially since I haven't used a Callaway product consistently since the GBB 7.5* and warbird 3 wood.

Apologies if I missed this, but how did the RFE numbers compare to the VR Pro LTD driver? Looking for ball speed, spin and forgiveness comparisons.
Thanks!

Very close in speed, RFE has lower spin, looks better, and has the dual cog adjustability. Both are really solid options.

Better to let the honeymoon pass. I agree. But this year I am playing what works, I dont care if it was pulled out of a barrel up north at a tin cup driving range. I am gaming the clubs that score. Data driven and not from the looks or what my favorite player is gaming.
Thanks for the data and the reviews. Fun to come back and watch this process of yours.

I use a 2 iron, no hybrids. If I was, I would just get the 913 HD w/ Fuji TS Speeder HB that I just hit. That thing is pretty nice, and I usually don't get along with hybrids too well on off days.

Add me to the bunch. Full time PING guy here, but I'm going back to what historically looks familiar to my eye which is Mizuno CB's, Vokey wedges, and an Adams Hybrid. Woods will be interesting. Just built a Covert, and am totally feelin' it! If it makes the bag over my G20 a VR Pro ltd 3 wood will be making it as well.

Too many good clubs this year to play only one OEM.

Tai thanks for all the feedback on this thread. I placed an order today for 913Fd with a Whiteboard to complement the TS 7.2 I have in my driver. I use is mostly off the tee so went with a 13.5 degree. Like you I gravitate to traditional look and feel and after testing a few the 913 won out for me. I am not really a numbers guy, I just play with what I am comfortable with. The past year has been Titleist but have played all the brands through the years.
