@Scratch - I would probably go all RFE if I did. I liked the feel and look of the RFE more than I thought I would yesterday. The XHP driver just has a very tinny feel, I don't really like it, but it definitely performs good. The XHP 3 wood is a different story and feels much better and more solid than the driver. Now you're making me want to get the RFE's.

That's the plan - best blend of looks, feel, performance. I know my ball speeds are high but I also want to make sure I'm maximizing my ball speeds and distances as much as I can while maintaining a dependable and accurate setup.

After hitting the RFE's yesterday, I am now on the quest to test a driver/3wd setup on the course as well. I already like the driver better, but not sure how the 3 woods compare.

exactly.... He hit's his custom 2 iron more than anything off the tee. I can't imagine Yorba LInda's very own Black Gold GC has enough length for your driver???

Go with look, then sound, then tiffany. Then go back to the Yonex Beast Mode.

I've got a Nike VR Ltd 8.5* with 7.2x TS. Also have one in a 905R for sh*ts and giggles.

Like others have said, do you place basically any emphasis at all on the numbers at your SS? I mean who cares in the end whether you hit it 320 or 326? You are already plenty long enough to play any course in the world

Are you just going to pick based on preference and comfort level with the driver?

I carried one 285 the other day into a monitor and was pretty excited. That's like a 3 wood for you!

Tai have you hit any Tour edge stuff. I have been looking for a new fairway, and xhp has been leading the pack, but stock shaft sucks for me, and I am not sure what I want. I have hit the tee Xrail and been getting numbers as good as or better than the xhp without trying to find new shafts.

Jeff - I know that I can generate good numbers on a Trackman etc.. but I'm basically seeing if any of the new stuff is dramatically better than my current setup (VR LTD's). I think that I can hit anything good with minimal gains when my swing is grooved and I'm hitting it well. But, I'm merely a weekend golfer who will always look for something that might improve my game with minimal practice even if it's mental. Basically the point of the shootout is to see if anything really stands out for any reason that I might not have normally tried. A lot of good offerings this year, so there is a lot of stuff that got my attention. Plus with some of these giveaways with people stumbling over themselves with the hype (warranted or not) I want to try the stuff for myself and see what's reality and what is pure marketing

When the dust settles from this, and that could be a while, I'm going to pick whatever is the most versatile setup that is the best blend of speed and consistency that can hold up under pressure or when my swing is off.

I did try the new TE 3 wood. Very good looking and very long, definitely a good option! My best speeds were with the XHP, TE, and RBZ2.. all of them I got best of 168-171 mph. I'm going to put together some RFE's to test in this, and they could very well end up winning this

It's a shame you didn't give the PING G25 Driver and 3 wood a run. I would put those up against anything on the market. I've hit everything on the planet and nothing gave me better numbers than the G series.

I couldn't get over the head shape.. I've never really like any Ping drivers enough to try them out extensively.

The 3 wood. It was no joke, but it was also a 13* vs. the 15* in everything else. It definitely is a great looking club and went very far, usually not a huge Adams fan, but the LS line looks better than the RBZ and R1 to me!

@PT1911: We were hitting them after the Trackman was shut down just messing around with different clubs so I don't have the exact #'s, but going by where the balls were landing I would say it would be up there with them. The head shape is really nice, and the way they have the white/light grey graphics looks really clean compared to the RBZ2 (which looks really bad) but performs so good, I don't care what it looks like lol

Tai, if you wanted to try a Ping driver, get a Rapture V2 9* and put a good shaft in it - it's an absolute monster. Has been for me - improved my distance, and accuracy to 62% of my last 20 rounds (let alone help me improve from a 6 to a 1 in a year)!

The 3 wood is head and shoulders above the driver, I would take the 3 wood over pretty much any other 3 wood to come out this year. The driver not so much, good performance but it sounds and feels awful IMO.

I am playing tomorrow and attempted this earlier today And that was going to be the RFX 8.5 w/ TS 7.2x tipped and 15 degree with 8.2x tipped

I haven't gotten that setup on the course yet so it would be the one I most want to try out right now. To game it would be the above setup or the 913 D2 8.5 and 913 FD 15 w/ TS 7.2/8.2. Very solid and dependable, would be what I would pick right now if the round mattered.

I will take it over the Stage 2 simply because it performs the same and looks better, not over the FD and XHP.

I want to hit the XHP 3 deep. The XHP is just a little small for me as I use my 3 wood 90% of the time off the tee.

I'm pretty much sold on the 913 FD, club is good in every way.

After today's round - the 913 FD is one of my top picks for 3 wood.. next will be to try the RFX and see how those two stack up. This is getting a little closer to a winner.
