Pure745's 2013 Shootout - THE OVEN setup added 6/13

That's awesome! You guys got some insane setups from #callawrx! Have you gotten your new Cally stuff out on the course much? I know Ladahl is covered in snow and hasn't had much course time with them.

I have about 6-8 rounds in with the XHP and 1 round in with the RFE since we got the equipment. On the course I am much more in play with both drivers. RFE will get the next few rounds to dial it in, as long or longer than the XHP for me, but haven't done any side by side with them as of yet. Want to do it outdoors and this week it won't happen. I have always been a more all titanium guy, never liked the composite stuff from callaway..last callie driver was the GBB..but the RFE feels and sounds closer to Titanium than any other driver(other then the XHP of course) then they have ever made, so I was intrigued..after hitting it a few dozen times...had to get one.

As to the rest of the equipment...the irons are surreal in the X Forged( I think you have irons covered though), fw's are incredible..both series, I am learning to love the current wedges, but I know the proto's will be amazing!! The versa and WHP are really good...haven't putted with anything else since I got back. Not trying to fluff up the new stuff...we were all just so excited that it was ALL so good..!

BTW Tai, I'm putting my money on the 913's. I'm thinking the 3 wood is going to end up being the X-factor when it's all said and done.
I kind of think that he will go with the RFX, being able to play an 8.5 driver vs 7.5 is a big factor. I agree though that the 3 wood is the X factor.
the RFX flights the ball so nicely. very penetrating flight.... that is the advantage as you mentioned to the 913. you can achieve the same flight - but are required to go down in loft - which is not conducive to straight.

honestly can't go wrong with either set...
I will add one thing to this. There is something to be said about playing a driver stamped 7.5 like a REAL MAN. When feeling extra caveman you can turn it down to 6.75 and then eat steak after the round.

Too bad you can't get a udesign in Tiffany blue! You can get one in dodger blue or lakers purple and gold!

Lol! I draw the line with Tiffany colored stuff on my Scratches and putters! If I showed up with a Tiffany colored driver, you have my permission to cart path it on sight!

Funny you say that, I have said it a few times, I think on this thread as well.. that the XHP reminds me of a modern day GBB. The head even reminds me of that driver a bit! Last composite driver I used was the FT-5 Tour and it didn't last long. The RFE has a different and much better feel for me, still has a bit of a tink sound but also has an amazingly solid feel to it. The XHP to me feels very thin, and almost like you're hitting the ball with a tin can. The performance is definitely there, and honestly, I don't like the feel of the XHP driver. The XHP 3 wood is a different story, and feels great. I still prefer the feel of the RFE 3 wood to the XHP, should have the RFE's out on the course this weekend and should have the 3 wood built today to get it out on the range.

hell yeah - everything tastes better when you flavor with a 6.75.

when i had mine it sure produced a nice flight. perfectly flat. loved that part of it.

With the XHP 1-2* open, I am totally good there. My miss is a slight pull, so turns into a pull-fade...when I square it up, goes straight...so solid. my RFE is set to Standard, but I think that is still 1* open also...have a dual cog on it, may play with it, but I hit it straight too!!

The 913FD has certainly set the bar high in a few categories, so I really can't wait to give this one a go. Also, my OCD kicked in and I measured the height of the faces on the RBZ2, RFE, and XHP, the RFE is the shallowest, but we're talking a few mm's at most lol.

Did the same to my RBZ..first one I played at 42.5 was the SFTP 2.0 and it was perfect at that length for my swing. GAINED distance cutting it down..hit it more flush at the right AOA more often to give me results I wanted.

Good to know.....I see that Titleist's stock length for a 4 wood is 42.5 and Cally's is 43". Maybe that is the ticket for me to get some more control and feel out of my XH Pro 4 wood/Diaman BB Stiff.

Tai- after reading your state of the test findings I'm eager to hear which 3wd wins out! I have played the 910fD and loved it with the Fuji Pro95 in it and I have played the RBZ tour with the Oban Devotion and loved it. I am waiting to hear what you think of the RFE 3wd since I just picked up the RFE driver and love the feeling/ looks and distance.
Looks are not going to be the deciding factor since both look great. How much do you use your 3 off the tee and will it come into play for you on par 5s?

Thanks for recording your findings and giving an unbiased view from another golf nut.

Tai-

If money's on the table would you game the old swoosh setup? I've never played anything Nike, but hit the Covert Perf. head and the VR Pro Ltd. 3 wood and MY GOD those two clubs are fantastic.

The Covert reminds me feel and sound wise of the 910 D3 I played for two years, but was much more forgiving. The driver even on off center strikes put the ball straight down the middle every time. The ltd 3 wood was as long as anything I've hit and the sound and feel was solid and muted just as I like.

Tell me what you think of the 913FD vs. the VR ltd. if you can.

good information on each club. what head do you like the shape of the most? when it comes down to it - i am wondering how much the RFE will benefit you having the moveable weight system vs. the titleist. if titleist were to integrate this into the next model i would more than likely be on board. for me TMAG and CALLAWAY have a slight nod for the fact i can adjust SW and CG with a turn of the wrench.

another thing to consider is there is a handful if not more non staffers playing the 913 - CHIII the ultimate tinkerer being one of them (and one who has stuck with it now for almost 6 months - something to be said when he sticks with a driver.).

Jim, the 3 woods is an important club for me off the tee. I don't use it a lot, but when I do, it has to come through for me. Usually on tight par 4s or holes hitting to a tighter landing area. I will use it hitting in to a par 5, but usually only if I have a good lie.

If money is on the table, right this second, the VR LTD's are back in the bag since I have used them for over a year or so. The VR LTD 3 wood is really good, but all of the new 3 woods are just as good or better. The 913 FD I will already say is better than the LTD, and that was definitely hard for me to say :) I am going to get the RFE's out today, will report back.

Ryan, honestly, I don't think it will matter that much vs. the 913's.. however, the dual cog and weight adjustability is what is pushing it past the XHP for me so far. Performance is to be seen, but what I have seen so far I think the RFE will come out ahead for me overall vs. the XHP's.

If you are looking for a 3 wood to hit off the tee as an alternative to a driver on tight holes, Callaway is coming out with a driving 3wood called the 3Deep next month. It has a deeper face than the X Hot Pro 3 wood and RFE, and is larger overall, but apparently the same flight characteristics. The lofts will be 13 and 14.5 degrees. This, I believe is based on Mickelson's desire for a driving 3wood alternative. I would bet it is alittle more difficult to hit off the fairway, much like the RBZ 3wood.

Got the RFE's out today to a tough track that I have only played once a while ago. Needless to say, the RFE's performed beyond my expectations. I ended up shooting 73 with two really dumb bogeys.. the driver and 3 wood are VERY solid. The 3 wood was better than I thought and looks like this setup will be staying in the bag. I still have to get the RFE's and 913s out side by side to confirm this, but after today's round, I think it might be over.
