JW's Adams DHy review

Since this thread has been resurrected, just wanted to say that after selling my original 18* DHy with DI-105 over the winter, I have another 18* en route, but this time with a Motore Speeder 9.8. Can't wait to get it (today) and take it out for a spin this weekend.

I still have my 21* in the bag. Put a Recoil 809 F5 shaft in mine....it is now a rocket launcher and fairway finder when you need it.

I also use this as my punch out club from under stuff...very hot and easy to get the ball in the short grass out of trouble.

I have the new Pro 27* DHy with an s300 irons shaft in it to replace my 5 iron. I've hit some great shots with it into greens from the fairway and the rough. It's pretty easy to hit. The only time I hit it poorly is off of tight lies, but that's a me issue trying to help the ball in the air. I may put a DGSL s300 in it. The club feels pretty heavy with the standard s300 sometimes. Still on the fence about that. Great club overall.

After reading this thread I decided to go to the range and test out a demo DHy 21* with a tour blue shaft against my a12 pro with an atlus. Holymotherof what a great club. You guys weren't exaggerating about how awesome it is. Surprisingly forgiving too...nailed one straight on the heel and it only lost 10 yards or so. Might have to do some digging around eBay to see if I can snag one

I suppose you could be specifying the new model, but multiple people have specifically said the original was better

Didn't want to start a new thread, so I'm posting in this one. After some research, it seems everyone is agreeing that the stock shaft in the Super DHY is a little on the whippy side, so would it be best to go up in flex? I play the 8m3 and 6m3 black tie in my 3 wood and driver respectively, and have been fine in stiff, but if the hx3 is really that loose I'll look for one in an x-flex instead

I like mine a lot and easy to swing and hit but i dont get those distances you guys get. Maybe 220 from the tee but from the deck is 200 max with roll.

21* with white tie stiff @ 39.5" and had the 24* extended to 39.5 but hit it too high and my 4 iron was almost same distance.

I wouldn't say that it is loose at all, but the stock length is about 40.5", which could make it feel that way. IMO, a 2-iron or 2-hybrid shouldn't be longer than 40" (a "traditional" 2-iron used to be around 39.5" IIRC). If the profile fits your swing, it will be fine. I would go ahead and try the S flex and if necessary, you can always get it tipped.

I'm struggling recently with these babies. The 24/21 combo has been in my bag for a while. The shaft has always felt a little squirrely to me. Recently I made a swing change and I have been spraying them all over the map (Notice I said "I". I know there is no magic club).

I was thinking about trying steel. I have some Rifle 6.0 blanks that I could throw in. The stock shaft plays a little long for my taste. Has anyone tipped the stock shaft? How does the White Tie react to 0.5-1" tipping?

Just pulled trigger on an 18* DHY. Thinking about c-taper lite. How will .355 taper work on .370 head?

It'll work just fine so long as you use the right shim.

Just recently picked up a 21* w/ a PX HD2 6.0, and have been absolutely loving it. Had some rain/holiday madness happening, so haven't had the chance to get it out on the course yet, but on the range, it's been hard to put it down and hit any other club. Two things I absolutely love: 1) for me, this thing is 99% anti-left. I absolutely have to try to come over and smother the ball kavorkian-style to make it go left with this club, so I can just lash away every time. And 2) it's not nearly as difficult to hit this club high as I thought. Really really eager to hit this thing all over my home course, which is a links style with short holes, tall grass, and occasional blustery gusts.

18* was a great club, but got kicked out by X2Hot Pro hybrid. I also picked up a 21*. It is solid and splits playing time with RSi2 4 iron.

That's funny, I have an X2 hot pro that's about to get kicked out by the DHy

  • 4 weeks later...

I have an 18 w x100 shaft which makes it as close to a driving iron as I will need, and looked at rock bottom golf last week had them going for like 40 bucks so I picked up a 21 with the Aldila tour blue. Will see how that one works. You couldn't pay me enough for my 18. Well that's a lie, but you get my drift ha

I really want a 27* to go with my 18* and 24* supey dhy's, but they are hard to find. I have found a few at $100+, but I bought my others off RBG for $45 each. I'd hate to pay much more than that.

What do u prefer and find u use more. The 18 or 24? I'm not sure If I want the 24 as a direct replacement for my 4i or the 18° to use strictly off the tea when im not hitting my fairway wood well

They're great clubs off the tee. For me they were tough to hold greens with though. They are for sure hotter than other driving iron type clubs. I played a 21 and 24. Super DHY and DHY pro are the same club btw. Need to have correct shaft though. Stock white tie in original super dhy was horrible.
