Sorry for the delay. I lost track of this thread.

 

I got an invitation from a client who knows a member at Augusta National. It was a wonderful all day experience. We toured the entire clubhouse, had lunch in the locker room dining area, went up to the crows nest, sat at Ike's desk and even played the par 3 course. The member took pictures and encouraged us to take our own, so no problem with pics. I have dozens inside the clubhouse and all over the course. I wrote down every shot I made with the club and the yardage.

I would say PD is more penal if you stray offline. The greens are a great at both with the edge to PD probably.

Do you have to stay there to get on the course? It's few hours up the road from me.

 

It's very private. In fact it's one of the more exclusive clubs in the country. This is where Mickelson spent the week after Merion to get "away". I worked at the YC's sister course, Black Bull, in Bozeman for 3 years so we got to play the Yellowstone Club and Moonlight Basin.

 

The YC is incredible! From the switchback road to get the clubhouse, to the sugar sacks on the course (complete with soft ice cream machines) to the bear spray in the carts it's like no place I've ever been.

Black Bull Golf Club - Bozeman, MT (worked here for 3 years) Tom Weiskopf was always around. He designed this course as well as the Yellowstone Club. He and his wife lived in Bozeman.

Black Bull was really getting nice when I left following the 2014 season. We hosted a Rocky Mountain sectional event in 2013 and the place received great reviews. The only drawback is the increased housing density was going to take away from the openness the course as time goes on.

 

Black Bull, Yellowstone Club, Stock Farm and Rock Creek are all must plays if you have a connect! As is Iron Horse up in the Flathead area! Montana is dotted some excellent tracks! It's just a bit of hike to get to each one!

Black Bull was allowing "some" outside guest play for the unaccompanied fee of $150 a couple of years ago to help get the name out. I'm not sure if they're still doing that. The others were much more restrictive at the time. The biggest hurdle you face getting on these courses is the fact the membership base is mostly national and even international. There are very few local members floating around to ask.

 

Black Bull received very little play when I was there. A busy day was 50 rounds. Our staff was encouraged to play so it looked like the course got used when prospective members would show up.

 

Craziest thing about Black Bull was that denim was allowed. As someone who grew up in the Northeast I almost fell off my chair when I saw someone golf in jeans at a private club.
