Something a bit different. Mountain Shadows resort recently renovated their par 3 course and it came out fantastic. Walked 18 in 2 hours and just a fun way to spend the morning without taking up the entire morning. We played in the AM stopped for breakfast then went on a 7.5 mile hike and were home by 2:30

Diamante Dunes yesterday:

I don’t have the scorecard handy but played the tips and shot 77 (74.1/141) which is the best I’ve played in months after multiple injuries this year. Missed a ton of putts and should have been much lower. Zero birdies however. :(

Seems similar to streamsong from the photos, just a little more natural. Looks like a fantastic layout. Did I read correctly that it was designed by Davis Love III? And do they keep it fast and firm?.....Seriously planning my next trip.

Awesome photos! Are you part of the big tournament group up there right now?

Thanks!

No, we're just a foursome or twosome that goes up at Thanksgiving.

There definitely were some bigger groups there, starting the Sat, then we'd seen recently.

Yes and yes. I’ll send you a PM for details later this week.

Have you played the Cardonal course out there? I'm assuming you have a few times...what are your thoughts? Curious on Tiger's first design...I know the pictures looked awesome.

Yep, played it again yesterday. Didn’t bother to take pics as the fairways had a fungus issue from the hurricanes so they are in the process of fixing it. Large areas have been spray killed and resodded (sp?) so I’d say it will be 3 months before it is back in perfect condition. There’s some impact in the fairways playing slower since they are watering heavily right now. That said, I think it is a very good golf course and a heckuva test. I made eagle on 18 yesterday to shoot 82 and that was playing about as good as I’m going to. 7368 yards, 76.3/141 but definitely plays easier than yesterday when the fairways are firmer.

Got it. Would be an awesome trip and its a great time of year to go!

I have a couple friends that were part of those big groups you saw on Saturday. They get out and play each course over the span of a few days as part of a tournament.

Let's start a kind of Advent Calendar featuring my own Dream Golf Course based on holes I've played. It has been a pretty fun but tough task since I decided to respect original holes order and to feature 18 different tracks. It means that some outstanding holes have been sidelined, but I'll publish later another unrestricted personal ranking featuring this time all "the very best holes" I had the chance to play.

Hole #1 of my Dream Course : Ardglass Golf Club, Co. Down, Northern Ireland

Let's start with a hidden gem. With what is claimed to be the oldest clubhouse in golf right behind you, massive guns on your right and the Irish Sea on your left, the first shot in Ardglass is like no other ! This is a short but quite demanding par-4 with cliffs in play and a small uphill green nestled in the dunes. Fun at its best !

Hole #2 of my Dream Course : Wolf Creek GC, Mesquite NV, USA

It requires first a the pretty steep climb to the tee box, where you discover 1) a beautiful 360° view over the entire property and Nevada desert 2) what remains to me as one of the most intimidating shot I ever had to play. It’s actually not a very difficult drive, but the massive gap between you and the fairway is really impressive while the landing area really seems smaller than a living room ! It’s in fact much wider you may think but even a good shot will require at best a mid-iron to catch a well protected uphill green.

Hole #3 of my Dream Course : Tralee Golf Club, Co.Kerry, Ireland

It’s actually is a fairly short seaside par-3 where the challenge is more related to surroundings rather than the design itself. As long you’re not distracted by Tralee Bay on your right and the 14th century tower on the back of the green, this hole may provide a good scoring opportunity. Such a nice spot !

Hole #4 of my Dream Course : Old Head Golf Links, Co. Cork, Ireland

The view from #4 tee box at Old Head is probably the favorite of my own golfing world. The well named “Razors Edge” hole is a solid dogleg left par-4 running 100 meters above the Atlantic Ocean. The green is hanging on the side of the cliff, with the lighthouse built in 1853 as background. Absolutely breathtaking !

Hole #5 of my Dream Course : Dunluce Course at Royal Portrush GC, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland

Like yesterday, this dogleg right par-4 is among the very favorite holes I ever played ! It’s also where I hit one of my purest tee shot ever, a more than perfect powerful fade cutting the dog leg by miles ! The view from the tee is already pretty nice but it becomes more and more impressive the closer you get from the green, located on the top of the dunes overlooking East Strand.

Hole #6 of my Dream Course : Trump International Golf Links, Scotland

It offers so many memorable holes that I could have picked up about half of them to my ranking but I finally choose the pretty long par-3 #6. With massive dunes on two sides and a deep drop on the front right, you’ll be in trouble with any errant tee shot. Play safe and you’ll be rewarded! We couldn’t enjoy the nice view on the North Sea due to the really bad weather that day.

Hole #7 of my Dream Course : Ballesteros Course at Crans-sur-Sierre GC, Switzerland

It’s tough to stay focused on your game while enjoying such a panoramic view over the Alps. But you’ll need to play a perfect shot if you want to catch the green of this short par-4 with your tee shot, especially with the out-of-bounds running all along the right hand side of the hole and coming very close to the green. Since the course is located at an altitude of 1500m, ball can fly up to 10% further than at sea level. It means than European Tour players usually go for it with 3W in hands during the Omega Masters tournament.

I've always heard it called a "skyline green" but apparently people call them "infinity greens" as well. http://www.golfchannel.com/video/architecture-101-infinity-or-skyline-green/

A great feature that is certainly meant to create fear even if there is no drop off behind the green.

Hole #8 of my Dream Course : Four Seasons GC at Anahita, Mauritius

Anahita is probably the best course on the island and hole #8 provides both challenge and views. It’s a long par-3 (233m/255y from tips) with a well protected and sloped green, located on the lagoon shore. Surrounded by lush nature and heaven background, it’s a perfect tropical postcard.

One of the most famous holes in golf on one of the very very best courses in the world (ranked 1st by @golfdigest). #9 at RCD is a solid par-4 requiring a blind tee shot over a large dune. The uphill walk provides that panoramic view over the Irish Sea, Mourne Mountains, Slieve Donard Hotel and clubhouse. Beautiful ! Once you get your mind back to the game, you’ll probably need a long iron to reach the green, well protected by a mound and few pot bunkers. A perfect way to end what is most probably the best front nine in golf.

Hole #10 of my Dream Course : Old Course at Phuket Country Club, Thailand

24206709817_5937d33d6c_o.jpg

Click to have full panoramic view. Green is hidden behind trees on right hand side.

To be honest, I really struggled to select a memorable #10 within all courses I played but the hole I finally picked really deserve to be part of my own course. It's a par-5 looping around a lake and what make it pretty special is the green reachable from the tee. It requires a shot of about 230m/250y "only" over the water but some trees and bushes are protecting the putting area. It means you could be still in trouble after a safe shot. Definitely worth a try ! So did I ... and missed !

Kharghar Valley Golf Course in Navi Mumbai (a suburb of Mumbai). Only 11 of the 18 planned holes have been built, and of those, only 4 have sand in the bunkers. The layout is very good, I think, but it seems as though progress has stalled. This is the only public golf course in the Mumbai area (20+ million people), which is a solid indicator of how well golf is taking off in India. Still a rich man's game there, for the most part.

I was in Mumbai for work, and made it my mission to experience golf in India. Very glad I did -- it was a nice break from the crazy crowds and traffic of the city.
