From what I have read the somewhat stronger lofts are to keep the launch down.

Gaming JPX Tour 900's atm, these TM 790's don't seem to be too far off loft wise and will definitely give them a go once available.

Depends upon the design. Some of the PXG irons have strong lofts, are forged but the lower COG necessitates a stronger loft to keep the launch down to specs. Same for all irons regardless if forged or cast.

I'm really looking forward to finding out more. The 700 series is the first TM release that has gotten my attention since...well let's just say it has been a long time.

I think they put them there especially for WRXers to tinker with. I figure a 200 page thread on: how to change the screw, how to add/subtract/change the foam, different types of foam for each iron, how to change the foam to affect ball flight/spin - endless possibilities!

But PXG says that their irons cost more because this technology costs more. Either Taylormade figured out a way to significantly reduce the cost this type of production or they are selling theses irons at a loss.

If these irons can give me proper gamable spin rates then I'm very interested. From Ricks dryball testing it looks like these will have a high launch angle but slightly lower spin. I can't wait for these to hit fitting carts to see if weakening the lofts and a different shaft can get those spin numbers up while not launching the ball too high.

With PXG, it's all about those individual tungsten screw weights!

A too high a launch is one of the reasons I dumped my Titleist T-MB irons and went PXG. I will be interested in seeing more comments about launch height of these in the reviews. The other reason was firm/hard feel but it appears that is without question better in the P790 than the T-MB.

After watching the Shiels review, I may have to get a set just so I can say "hamster mattress" on solid shots.
