Go to the 790 for the closest thing to a two iron. They are hard to find, a collectors at this point. I regret selling it.

Go to the Srixon if you want solid all around performance. Still gaming my U45 because of the distance and forgiveness.

I highly recommend finding the right shaft regardless of head choice; the shaft will make or break your results.

Thanks for the insight. Any tips on how to find the best shaft? I have a few places i could get fitted around North Jersey but have never really looked into shafts but now my game has evolved enough to where it is time. Anything can help, thanks

These days lot's of people think about buying a 2 or driving iron. Assess how you want to use the club. Off a tee, a 17* 2 iron is pretty easy to hit but off the deck and to get reasonable distance requires practice. A number of people have tried hitting my 2 iron, only a few had some success. I have carried a 17* or 18* 2 iron or 16* 1 iron since I took up the game over twenty-five years ago.

I have been carrying a Titleist 17* T-MB with PX 5.5 shaft. Some 2 irons are fine off a tee but as fine off the deck. Opt for a club head that's suited for hitting off the deck. Should have a moderately flat (low camber) somewhat narrow sole, and slightly sharper leading edge because you need to shallower AoA to sweep the ball off the surface. A steep AoA will chunk or skull the ball. My 2cents.

I tried a number of shafts in my 2 iron, including a 95 gram GD Tour AD Driving Iron. Graphite and I don't get along in irons. Pulled it after one round. Only played two shafts in 2 and 1 iron since 2007; Project X 6.0 and now PX 5.5. I use the club off the tee on Par 4's under 380yds and 2nd shot Par 5's under 520yds, even 2nd shots on 460+yd Par 4's.

What shaft are you playing in the 3 wood and 3 iron?

You’re going to have bridge somewhere in the middle for steel vs graphite.

I went from steel to graphite with near perfect results, but my graphite shaft is at 110 grams (heavier) Recoil.

I’ve seen guys had success with steel shafts as well but I would recommend graphite.

TM P790 has a 3i with 19* of loft, but no 2i.

Why do you want a 2i? Go with a driving iron, a crossover, etc. 2i makes as much sense as loading up a 1910 Bulldog, when all the OEMs now make a variety of hybrids.

I stand corrected. This an **Ultimate Driving Iron** with a 17* loft, which is in the P790 family. It is being called a 2i, but is in the driving iron family. I thought the original poster was talking about a standard 2i as part of an iron set.

I use a set 4i 22* as my driving iron and then go into a hybrid. I guess I was just defining terminology differently. (In the previous century, my MacGregor MT irons had an actual 2i, but the loft was 21* back then. And, I used it primarily as a driving iron).

You can go with the equivalent hybrid shaft for the two iron as long as the tip diameter is the same.

It would be a good starting point since the feel would be consistent.

Secondly, you may even upgrade the shaft again if you find the flight is not boring or flat enough.
