Are all your hybrids the same? Or similar in shape?

Good morning. Quick question. I just purchased a new 27* hybrid. It's more of a "fairway wood" shaped hybrid rather than an "iron shaped" type. I really like the size. I then compared to my 24* hybrid and it is way bigger. Would you have a problem playing a bigger higher lofted hybrid that your lower lofted one? I've gone the other way no problem with the though that lower lofted clubs need to have a bigger head size for forgiveness.

Thanks.

I've got two hybrids - a 22* and a 19*. The 22* has a very cambered sole which makes it very versatile and can glide through a lot of different turf types (rough, weeds as well as regular tee/fairway). It's my go-to stick for varied lies that need to advance a good distance towards the pin. My 19*, however, is mostly just a tee shot and clean fairway lie club. It doesn't have nearly as much toe-to-heel camber, so will tend to get grabby in longer grass.

So, while they're not different in the way you're describing yours to be, I like having mine different so they can perform different tasks as the situation dictates.

I have ancient rocketballz tour 2 and 4 hybrids in the bag. For me, they work and are stupid easy to hit. I have never had matching fairway woods in the bag, so for me having whichever tools work for the job at hand is fine. Until an OEM wants to cut me a check to hack it around...

If anything can go right, it might!

My 23* hybrid has a s300 shaft and plays like my irons. It's a smaller Adams Super 9031, but my 19* is a larger club that I want to launch higher. This one is a XTD Adams Super Hybrid, and turf interaction is very similar between the two, so they've been very hard to replace over the years. I still don't know if I can every find anything that will replace them.

Same for me (see signature). My PXG has a smaller footprint and is more iron-like (tee, rough, fairway....can hit it from anywhere) and my Cobra is more fairway wood-like (tee, fairway... distance-oriented)

i'm playing two hybrids right now. I consider them to be different in almost every way, from looks to usage.

A 20 degree 2016-Apex, with an AD-DI-85 shaft, cut down a half inch with an additional 6 grams of weight in the head. It's very iron like and sleek in appearance, with a compact shape and larger toe. The shape is important to me, as I use this club in so many ways and would honestly feel uncomfortable with a larger head that makes me want to sweep at the ball. The length fits into my irons, being a 1/2 longer than my 4 iron. swing weight is heavy for a hybrid at D4 to match my irons. This is the first hybrid I ever liked, as it looks more like an iron, plays a bit flatter, especially with the short shaft, and sits neutral. For me, there's finally some confidence that it is not going left. this is my control club. I can hit fades and draws. I can play it high or low. one of my go to clubs for out of the rough, or in a bad lie when i just need to punch out and run down the fairway. just really seems like an extension of my iron set, but is so much easier to hit.

A 17 degree Adams Super XTD Ti hybrid. Stock Fubuki x flex, stock length. Cult classic that is currently replacing my 3 wood who is in timeout for not performing well off the deck. Completely opposite look from the apex. Rather large head, light gray color really stands out. The velocity slot on top catches your eye and some strange looks from others. Very flat and rounded fairway wood sort of look to the head. Headshape could fool you for a 7 wood. I am not in love with the headshape, but I feel like I need it in this low of a loft. This is my bomber club. Typically reserved for solid lies. Not big on hitting hybrids of the tee, but if the distance calls for it I will make it happen. I dont trust my ability to work and control the ball, i'm really just going for straight and high, with distance. I use it the most for second shots on par 5s, and when I occassionally duff a drive and need a 240 yard recovery.

I have two hybrids from the same model, the versatile FlyZ 3-4H and 4-5H. I play both at minimum loft, which gives me a slightly open face.

Each offers eight adjustments, which makes them excellent for tweaking yardage bridge between FWs and numbered irons.

But, that's me.

I would suggest hybrid and wedge mixes can take two distinct paths. All the same model - easier to work them as a team - or individual special-purpose clubs.

VT5WCB7G0RG0.pngDifferent models? Each has a special purpose. In Callaway hybrids...

a person might want a BB O'size 3H for distance off the fairway; andan Apex 5H for a smaller head to chop out of the rough or get spin on approaches. For wedges...

a person might want to integrate MD4s in 50-54-58 so they can set up a precise Pelz-style distance matrix; or,they might go with Apex iron PW, and add in Vokey 56*/F grind SW and a TaylorMade Hi-Toe 60* LW. This would work for a person who uses the SW for most shots inside 60 yards and relies more on touch than mechanical grid.

Probably not what OP wants to hear, but I'm a big believer in minimizing the number of "looks" a bag has at setup. Obviously the addition of hybrids has created another order of magnitude. And having multiple different ones, that's just not going to work for me. I don't think this is some kind of OCD, I think it's just practical. Each different look is actually a different setup and/or swing or at least a mental adjustment or setup cue. Maybe just a small change, but it's there. How many different full swings/setups/thoughts can you handle? Mark Crossfield for example seems like he could play 13 different ones. Not me.

Srixon same model hybrid in different lofts look different. Same with woods. Shape changes because of loft, same amount of surface area pushed back when higher loft. Only way to keep shape the same would be use less material.

Played the Adams Pro A12 2, 3 and 4 Hybrids for years, nothing could knock them out of the bag. Until the PXG Gen 2's came along, love the looks and the feel is even better.

I can honestly say that I actually do take into account the size of the hybrids in all of my bag setups. I would not like having a large 24 degree hybrid paired with a smaller 20 degree hybrid. Just doesn't seem like a logical progression

Currently I have a Cobra King OS 3-4 hybrid at 20.5 degrees followed by the Cobra f9 at 24 degrees. As the loft increases I consider hybrids to be a more scoring type club that need precision & I don't feel I can achieve that with a large high lofted hybrid. Just the perception I have at this point.

I came across the 915H in 21* and fell in love with it so much that I pieced together the same club by head/shaft/grip because the 915 is old enough that new-ish ones don't come around often. My type-A-ness requires the bag to have the same hybrid. Last year I was all about the utility irons. 2020 is going to be different.

No Sir - You are not. Might be just the 2 of us. LOL. The Cobra King OS is the longest tenured club in my bag (well, at least one of my bags). Easy to launch & goes a predictable distance every time. If I need to hit a shot over 200 yards but it's a little narrow whether it's off the tee or from the turf the King OS is my go to club. It basically has the look of a mini fairway. Never got much attention when it was released, but it's crazy reliable.

I play two hybrids (see sig), and both appear slightly different in terms of construction and look at address. They are different series clubs from the same manufacturer, but about 2-3 years apart in terms of release dates. Yet, with practice and continued play, I have found that I can make both work for what I need. That's the secret of golf equipment in a nutshell.

If I had all the money in the world, yes, I would purchase a few Callaway Apexes or XHot 2's at 18*, 21*, and 24* lofts with the same shaft - most likely Accra FX 300H's. But...
