Golf ball hawking

Think i am addicted to hunting for lost balls.

Ok.

You gotta do something waiting between shots, might as well show a profit!

I was like that. After a round I would sometimes go look for golf balls. Our course is littered with hazards so there are a lot to be found. One day I found 220 decent balls. I keep the premium balls and give away the others to a kids organization. I have around 45 dozen ProV's. I won't be looking like I have in the past though. I am 65 and don't really feel like dealing with briars, brambles, and all that anymore. :-)

That's entirely too much effort. If i come across one while looking for my own ball, sure I'll pocket the better balls...but searching for them? No thanks.

I'm not really looking them but find lots searching the woods for my ball!!

I have a giant Home Depot bucket full of found balls at home. I've probably finished the past 2 seasons like +200 for balls LOL

That being said i prefer playing Chrome Softs so still buy them

I'll probably donate a bunch to our junior program

I have golf balls sorted into 3 diff categories:

1- PRIMO ( ProV1s, TM, Bridgestone)

2- AVERAGE balls

3- CRAP

The CRAP ones I give away. The AVERAGE ones I use almost all of the time. The PRIMO ones I use for matches or for playing at upscale courses.

I always remember a buddy who for some reason when anybody is in a hazard, he is like a blood hound looking for wild birds. He is in there even after we found the ball looking for golf balls calling them out by company. He would walk out with close to a dozen each time. Sometimes he would throw some Prov's or some Taylor Tpx's my way. He never seems to amaze me at his skill for ball searching. I told him he must of been the champion easter egg hunter in his younger days. We always get a chuckle.

LOL! Me too. I used to play my 36 hole muni and probably have 1,000. I cured myself of that habit. The one good thing I learned was that ProV1 and V1x are fantastic balls. I got my swing to the point I could appreciate how good they are. If you have that balloon slice then you cannot appreciate Pro V1 or 1X. The 1X is straighter. I would have never spent the money on them if I had not found them.

One hole had these trees and bushes that attracted lots of balls if people sliced. One year in Florida during the summer we had these big banana spiders that had huge webs. I stayed out of those trees then.

Not a good idea in Florida due to gators.

About 25+ years ago, my wife and I stopped by Pebble for lunch...I had never played, but wanted to walk part of the course just to check it out.

Between the 6th and 8th holes/fairways, on top of the peninsula, there was a large area with deep rough...almost knee high grass. It was hitting the jackpot...I probably picked up three dozen balls, almost all of them the high end ones of the day (Titliest Professional?), clearly hit only a couple times or once even! I ran out of room on my pockets... a bummer since the little valley and area short of the 16th green was full of balls as well.

One thing I've learned is that it's worth hunting at the higher end courses...not sure why, though...i probably have 20 brand new boxes sitting in my garage!

I kind of have that issue as well. It hasn't been as bad this year as Wal-Mart did a reset on their golf area and I bought a bunch of the balls on clearance. My dad will often go hunting in some OB areas at our course that attract a lot of balls (it helps that the stretch he does it at tends to be the choke point for pace of play.) We've got so many balls now that it's a bit ridiculous. We even have bought a lot of balls from Golf Galaxy during their flash sales. Combine that with just plain finding a lot of balls and it's gotten to the point that I'm actually leaving balls if they're the lower tier balls.

I play the ProV's as well, and wouldn't do so if I had to pay for them, lol. Too many hazards on my course to ante up the money for a premium ball.

When my son was younger he would come to the golf course with me, play a few holes and then look for balls. He loved it. Like a treasure hunt. It was amazing the places he would find balls. How did anyone hit a ball there? I would buy the premium balls from him and then sell the rest for him on Craigslist. Now I have to buy balls from the store.
