How Far Do You Hit Your Putter?

The longest putt I've ever made was almost exactly 100 feet. Only the last 60-70 feet of that was on the putting surface, though.

The longest putt I've ever tried to hit was from 72 yards out in the fairway one time but it came up like 50 feet short of the hole. I guess a man's got to know his putter's limitations.

I played in a drought one year where I bumped a putt from around the 100 yard marker down a hill and rolled it up on the green. It didn't go in of course, but that is the longest I have ever tried.

Do you mean longest putt? I had an 84 foot putt once for one of my few eagles. I'd like to say that I lined it up and totally expected to make it, but I really intended for it to be a close lag. I was thrilled when it went in of course. Then I had to walk it off, knowing it would be probably the longest I would ever make. Ping Anser 5 milled putter if anyone wants to know. It could have been a Scotty, or a putt-putt putter of course as everyone has their favorite. But as a golfer for 48 years, there are some things in my grip I would recommend to everyone, such as hold the putter comfortably with as much of your hands as possible, I don't overlap (you're not gripping your fingers, you're gripping the putter). I hold it lightly, with both thumbs straight down the shaft. Balance the putter each time before you putt, in other words make sure the putter 'feels balanced as you putt through, you'll know what I mean when you 'feel it'... and make sure your stance is balanced, don't be afraid to bend the knees a little, but not too much. And follow through, no tapping... just my 2 cents worth. Sorry, didn't mean to add to answering your question, but putting is dear to me :)

haha this is great....

I did, however, go driver, putter, putter, 2 iron, putter for par once.... pulled driver in the woods, tried to punch out with putter and went no where... then in disgust whacked putter for punch out about 70 yds.. to about 236yds... 2 iron to 10 ft... dropped the putt.

I mean this IS wrx.... someone had to tell this story.... right?

My buddy has a 77 yard putt at the Old Course .. 231 feet. He left it 12 feet short which was incredible in my opinion. It was on the Paul Casey bush hole which was #12 IIRC

I'll be the shorty. 10 ft. I'm working in my draw putt to add a few extra feet. When you're weak every foot counts.

I did something similar a long time ago. Just for sh!ts and giggles, I played a short par 4 with my Bullseye putter. I remember full swings actually got about 10ft off the ground and really travelled. My buddies were incredulous when I made par.

Actually one time got on the green on a 140 yard par 3 with the putter, it was in a high school match and I won 5 bucks because of it :)

Well I have hit putts from over 100 foot on some really wild greens. Now if the question was how far and you THROW your putter, I would think we could get some world class numbers from some of these guys!

What with all the talk about how far folks hit their drivers and irons I thought we should have a thread on how far we hit our putters. :-)

You must be really bored stuck in 5 ft of snow to start a thread like this. :taunt:

Wow. Another typical WRX post. Passive brag about distance. As normal, I'm the short weak hitter on WRX. I play a soft stepped regular putter shaft. I have to "loft up"in order to get any distance. I'm looking for something that is really forgiving and straight. I'm tired of trying to find my ball in the trees...

Lol. This thread is great. Sean, thanks for making a dull day at work better!

I was playing at the University of Mn golf course and the guys I got paired up with were playing their match play match for the mens club.

One of the guys finally lost his match after the 15th hole and the being the big baby he was he played the last three holes with just a putter. I think the guy was having a nervous breakdown over losing the match.

He hit one drive over 100 yards but I was just waiting for the head to snap off.
