Just so we all have a reference point ...

The only reference point of merit is your own game.

I'm reminded of an HBO Rodney Dangerfield Young Comedians special from back in the early to mid 80's. A lady comedian, Rita something, commenting on aging, "I'm going to have facelifts til my ears meet".

That's how I feel with my iron yardages, I'm going to keep getting them stronger til my seven iron is my three iron (loft wise). I've hit my irons the same yardages for too long, I don't want to relearn new distances.

I play Taylormade PSI Tour Forged Irons. I can push some extra yards out of each club but I have shortened my swing slightly to be more consistent. I'll take losing a few yards for being in the short grass more often. (Honest yardages...NO 400 yard 4irons lol)

4- 205

5- 190

6- 180

7- 170

8- 160

9- 145-150

Pw- 130 max

Gw- 120 max

Sw- 110 max

Lw- 80 max

I believe it is Rita Rudner.

That sounds right, thanks Pete. I know we still have that one VHS tape somewhere. But no VCR.

Just so we all have a reference point ...

After a sessions on the practice tee, 20 +/- rounds over 2 years, and a range finder, these are almost a match to my (carry) numbers with Titleist 716CB's. I think I've maxed out personally on the yardages. I played this past weekend and one fella said my swing has gotten a tad shorter. Back issues have crept into my life, but between a chiropractor and home stretches I hope get limber up a tad. At 5'9" and 175 lb I think my distances is pretty good.

My distances are similar to OPs, I am a little shorter through the bag. A few years ago I went from 7i at 145-175.

My handicap also went up. I lost a lot of my control and overall my quest for distance was a failure on the scorecard. I am now a little longer than before this experiment.

Depending on your swing and physical abilities there can be a diminishing return on the quest for length. But I wish you better luck than I had.

there just is no answer to this question... Depends on wind, slope, shot shape, desired Traj ( yea i said it) , and lie..... a stock drawn pw for me at 49 degrees is 140 yards.. But i hit alot of 100 yard Pw too.... and plenty of 130 yard 9 irons

Here are mine....

19* Hybrid : 230 yards

4 (24): 205

5 (28): 190

6 (31): 177

7 (35): 165

8 (39): 155

9 (43): 145

PW (47): 130

52: 115

56: 100

60: ??? (not sure, normally only hit it from 50 or less, never really take a "full" swing with it)

Those are my "stock" swings, which are roughly 75-80% swings. I can get another 10 yards out of each club if I HAD to, but they spin way too much when I go past a 90% swing.

For reference on other clubs:

15 deg 3W goes about 260-265 (off the tee).... 85% swings

8.5 deg Driver goes about 290+ ..... 90-95% swings

Amen brother. Any time I start looking at any new irons, the first thing I do is look at the PW loft... if it's lower than a 46, I'm out. I know the rest of the set will screw with my yardages. I had more power 15-20 years ago and hit my irons the same exact distance (my irons back then were a couple degrees weaker than now, and I used balatas or professionals).... In another 10-15 years, I'll be all over some strong lofted GI clubs to make up for getting old so I'll still hit my PW (probably 43 deg by then) to 130! HA!
