Wilson Harmonized wedges arent gonna be fantastic imo

Not compared to a $130 wedge,no. But for the budget minded, they are great at $30. Tons of spin and a nice grind for the money. Trust me, I’ve played them before and I’d choose them over a Vokey myself. I’ve played numerous wedges and have a stash that’s full of all different brands and the Harmonized can hang.

In the market for a new 3 wedge upgrade for my gamer bag. I no longer buy into all of the hype of marketing around player/commercial endorsed products, just good functional tools that work, (meaning I have owned/played top shelf gear in the past and I believe in the archer vs the arrow more...as long as the arrow isn't crooked..hehehehe). I want to upgrade my gamer bag that I am working on for 2019. First post and question for the WRX gents.

What's the best bang for your buck wedges? (either build it/buy it built/etc) Maltby? Primary OEM brand (if so WHY)? DTG? Gigagolf/Acer/Dynacraft?

I am an average hacker getting back into the game looking to break 80 consistently and get some finesse at a reasonable cost. I do know how to spin the ball, etc., I just don't know I want to pay $99+ per wedge for 3 wedges or get a worn out beat up gear just for OEM namesake from ebay (done that already).

My goal is to have reasonably good tools to score better with if I use the proper technique. Thoughts? THX!

Find some used Vokeys, Callaways or Pings in good shape here or on ebay - or find some last years Taylor Mades new. I suspect you could find three for less than $200. If you are looking to spend less than that, I’m not much help. No disrespect, Ive just not looked for a $50 wedge before...

52/56/60 Nike Engage sets on eBay for $119.99

They were a "premium" wedge in their day (only a few years ago) - put out there to compete with Vokey, Mack Daddy, etc.

Nothing against the Maltby's and Wilson Harmonized suggestions, but those are on the "budget" spectrum, perhaps one notch above BombTech 3 wedge sets, but many notches below the top end wedges.

I can't speak to the Harmonized and probably wouldn't consider them but you seem to be comparing budget and affordable to "cheap". The Maltby's, while certainly affordable are far from cheap. I have some and while I'm not currently playing them in terms of finish, attention to detail - paint fill, etc.. they are the equal of any major OEM and same goes from a performance perspective. Affordable? Yes. Cheap? No. The Wilson Harmonized seem more aimed at the recreational rather than serious player although boggyman seems to like them.

Not a big fan of snagging wedges on Ebay, especially those titled "Like New", due to the worn grooves. Now if you can find some actual new old stock wedges, then it might be worth a look. But, if you want some quality wedges at a fair & competitive price point, try any of the Maltby offerings, pick your shaft and grip, and assemble them yourself. Hard bargain to beat.

I will second the choice of Tour Edge TGS (Triple Grind Sole) Wedges. Very well made, 431 steel but nice and solid feeling. Shafts are not whippy but not ram rods either. I think you would really enjoy them. I got them as part of a custom fit Tour Edge HL2 Driver, woods and irons and could not be happier with the clubs. Tour Edge are definitely under rated quality golf equipment. Nice grip too, but I replaced mine just on personal preference. Around $35 per wedge. You really cannot go wrong!

Awesome feedback, thx! First thread on WRX and you guys sounded off nicely. Several Maltby users sounded off which is what I was hoping to get affirmation or thumbs down on. I had never been to the RBG site...thanks as well. Saw some good prices there as many alluded to.

Well....I think its gonna be a Maltby order after the holidays. Price is right, several affirmed quality is g2g and I can get it my size.

I'm not cheap....I'm frugal and like to make my dough go a ways hence the question.

Maltby is inexpensive but is just as high a quality as any OEM. The M+ series allows you to really tailor the 3 wedges to you game or conditions.

This statement could not be any further from the truth. What the hell are you basing that comment on. Put a Maltby head to head with any wedge. Play both of those wedges for a few years and then check their condition. You are completely misinformed.

Wilson PMP. Hands down the best budget wedge I've ever used. Spin for days! They're even better than the Adams Tom Watson wedges. And that's saying something.

I got gigagolf wedges for my wife and daughter. First I got the SGS wedge for my wife a few years back. Then recently, when my daughter got interested in the game, I got her the S2 Black Matte.

Both those wedges are very nice. I could see myself playing both. In particular, I do like the look and feel of the S2.

Sm6 or sm5 vokeys. Original ping glides. Rtx3 if you can stand the heel grind that leaves the perception of offset (though there actually isn’t any significant offset... I stopped carrying Cleveland’s after 3 sets cuz it drove me nuts)

Another vote for the Mizuno T7. Budget Golf and Rock Bottom have them $69 and you can use a discount code to get it even lower. No brainer.

MGS wedge reviews says the Tommy Armour Over n Out Wedge is the best budget wedge!

And a review of their spin data on those says something is rotten in Denmark

Another Maltby M+ user here. Main problem is they are so cheap you buy too many. I am always rotating between 54-58-62 and 52-56-60, and I usually spend 30 minutes digging around in my garage looking for the 52 when I finally remember that's the only loft I don't have yet.

That Is so funny because that is what I do as well! I have everything from 50-62 and multiple grinds of several of them. Super soft for a cast wedge, black finish is great and price is hard to beat. Great spin as well. I prefer the m series to the tg version as I feel they spin more plus more options.

Was hoping someone would sound off on that wedge, not too much feedback about them online. Look nice but need more detail.

Maltby is always good, I would also suggest Alpha wedges. They have a budget line and their "premium" line of clubs.

The MDC Tour is a budget wedge:

https://www.valuegol...our-wedge-heads

The premiums are the PF-2, PF-2C and the ProSpec(black finish):

https://www.tourshop...m/alpha-wedges/

Dynacraft has a wedge that would probably be suitable as well. Ben Hogan golf has their original TK wedges are available brand new at $65 as well. Only thing that sucks is there aren't any 53-58 degree wedges available:

https://benhogangolf...ducts/tk-wedges

One more:

Good luck in your quest.
