I heard through the grapevine that the Irvine Company is gonna be closing Oak Creek. I can’t imagine someone else buying it from them, I have to assume they’ll use the land for some other type of development ???

Shame. It is somewhat affordable Fazio track in OC. I should ask my Irvine city hall dude.

It’s a bit overpriced imo, but that’s Irvine. So are strawberry farms and Tustin ranch, but oak is definitely the best track of the three.

I agree. Tustin Ranch is waayyy overpriced when you can drive an extra 30 min and play some of the riverside courses for half the price and much better shape

Where is Monte going to go? He's got a nice setup at Oak Creek. I must say, when I was there for his clinic in March, I couldn't help thinking that a golf course at that location probably isn't the best way to extract $ from that piece of land.

That's a great question and was the first thing i thought lol. I had a playing lesson lined up with him there the week that things started to shut down, so it got pushed back.

what? I consider oak our home range and course. I see some development going on, but can't imagine it closing.

Yeah, we'll find out. I heard it through a friend who apparently knows someone who works at the course and just found out (lost their job etc.). So there's a chance this is faulty info, but Irvine Company does own the course and land, and i could certainly see them making more money with other ventures there. I'm also slightly worried about the same thing happening at Rancho San Joaquin.

That would suck! I get lessons from Monte there, I wonder where he'd move to if they close up. It's such a nice course I have a hard time thinking no one would want to buy it.

Played Oak Quarry today and was in good shape. Greens were slow and rough was typical for SoCal. Definitely not as rough as Los Serranos last weekend. First time playing Oak Quarry and it’s a fun track with this awesome par 3

Played Black Gold today. The course / greens are in great shape but they took the flags out and replaced it with sprinkler flag markers. And for anyone who has played Black Gold there is a lot of elevated greens and not being able to see where the flag is lame. Even at 150 out I had a hard time finding the flag.

I don’t understand why they are the only place to do this but I’m not going back there anytime soon.

thanks for the heads up. kinda funny, but I can see how that would be super annoying. the courses in PS put some foam inside the hold so you don't have to touch the flag or the hole to get the ball out. seemed to work well.

That would suck if Oak Creek does shut down. It's a good track and very close. Agree with the above posters about it being the better out of the other courses in Irvine, especially for the price.

Played Torrey Pines North this morning. I was welcomed in the parking lot to verify I had a tee time as they don't want anyone just hanging around. You had to wear your mask in common areas but on the golf course you did not. They spaced out tee times every ten minutes which was incredible felt like one group per hole no waiting around. I teed of at 9:06am we finished at 1:07pm. The course is in great condition really plush!

Camp Pendleton is open now. Just got word that Miramar opens on Monday. Don't have any info on Admiral Baker.

Played Dos Lagos and this is their hole set up. Course was in pretty good condition too.

Thank goodness it’s not elevated cup! I played an elevated cup today at Oak Quarry today and it felt like putt putt. Playing Dos Lagos Sunday how was the pace of play?

About 4 1/2 hrs but our tee off time did get delayed 20 min due to waiting for carts to come in and get sterilzed. Times were 10 min apart but surprsied there was no wait on holes. I overheard the proshop claiming they're accomdoating almost 1000 players that day. Crazy if true. And not a fan of the raised cup either.

Do yourself a favor and dont' don't don't play costa mesa gc. They won't even let you in the parking lot before 15 minutes ahead of your tee time. we had a 2:57 time and didn't get to tee off until 3;30. For 9 holes it took us almost 3 hrs. No thanks.

 

It was better playing Tustin Ranch at 5 pm and we finished 9 holes in less then 2 hrs. Much more enjoyable.

Just got finished playing Riverwalk GC in San Diego. Payed $59 for Sunday morning round. Course wasn't in great shape. The greens were aerated and the rough was aerated and overgrown. Some fairways were really bad. No rakes in the bunkers which was fine and the cups were raised on the greens. Was happy to be out after 8 weeks and I played a lot better than I anticipated. I've got tee times at Miramar Base for three rounds next week.

Played Hidden Valley this morning around 8. Course was in pretty good shape minus the bunkers (lots of standing water, and the ones without were either hard or mud). 4 of us in solo carts, round took just under 4.5hrs. Great day, would def play again.

A bit late but I played Tierra Rejada last Sunday and the walk is absolutely brutal. It was about 80-85* so it was definitely warm but the course is just not designed for walkers. My buddies and I called it quits after 9, especially starring at the uphill walk that was waiting for us on #10.

Kudos to anyone who can walk 18 at Tierra Rejada.

Also, to the person who was looking for an open range, the range across the street from Tierra Rejada is open. It's called Golf Development Complex.
