Open So Cal Courses

I played River View today - only place I could get on at short notice.

Wouldnt exactly say it’s my favorite course. Greens are great but EXTREMELY slow. Rest of the conditions are just OK. Fairways pretty thinly covered with sand underneath. A lot of the rough is just clover that’s gotten really deep in the time they’ve been closed. I lost a couple of balls that trickled just off the fairway/green.

Driving range is open and carts available.

Was disappointed to see some groups completely breaking all the rules. I saw a 6-some on the tee box (obviously checked in as two 3s and joined up), not even close to social distancing. High-fiving, back-clapping. Just morons.

IMO you should be ok. I am worried about those tee off after 11. I rode with my buddy but many rode single. don't forget extra balls. from my experience at Oak Quarry and Los Serranos, rough is deep and thick.

Anyone hear of any Orange County driving ranges that have opened? I’m in north San Diego county, and I really expected my course to be open any day now.

Some Rancho Santa Fe clubs are back up and running for walking only. I’m sure it’s coming soon, but just getting antsy!

Played Los Serranos South at 8:10 today. Was able to get a cart. Fairways in good shape, rough is ROUGH. As others have mentioned heavily penalized for not being in the fairway. POP was around 4 hours, could not imagine walking the course as the heat was brutal today while riding. Played like dog poo but it was good to be on the course after a 7 week hiatus. Greens were really slow but rolled true. Fun track as it was my first time

I got an email from them on Saturday saying their range was opening on the 25th, and the course opening on the 1st.

Finished playing a grueling 6 hour round at Redhawk in Temecula. No Marshall in sight and group ahead of us were beyond slow. Adding insult to injury, they sent a twosome in front of us on the start of the back 9, who eventually grouped up with the group ahead of us for even longer waits. Can't make this stuff up. Idiots going to ruin it for everyone

@lookylookitzadam - I played in the LS - North course men's club for four years. Played it just before it shut-down. IMO walking during winter weather is easier than walking during prime time summer heat. We played yesterday in the vicinity of LS and temp was mid-high 90's. Some younger guys were walked the course but they were not having fun, it was hot. North course is a bit hilly in places but walkable, in the heat it depends.

Maderas just announced opening beginning May 1.

Just done at Black Gold.

 

I must say it is in the perfect condition except "No Flag" situation. Rough is in familiar thickness and green rolling not too fast & not too slow. GPS will tell the hole position but without the course knowledge, it could be challenging even if you land dead center of the green.

Cottonwood Golf Club in San Diego opening May 1st. Not the best track in the world but it's golf. Looks like many courses in San Diego are opening in May. I'm hoping the military courses in San Diego follow suit.

Since I haven't played in 7 weeks, my golf game is no where near in shape to play Maderas...Especially for the prices they charge.

I just played Rustic and if you never played and are in SoCal: YOU HAVE TO GO!!!!

 

it’s the best course I’ve ever played by far, I paid 50 bucks. Flags, conditions, weather, everything is all great. For us younger gents who never walk, be ready for some discomfort because these older dudes step on it. Finished in 3 1/2 hours with a 7am tee time.

 

course layout is fantastic! But if you can’t control your ball flight and struggle with contact, this course is not for you yet. There’s a lot of holes where the tees are separated from the fairway and you must clear a few hundred yards, BUT that’s why I love this course. It’s so beautiful! Play a high fade on approach shots y’all.

Anyone know if Dos Lagos includes carts? I can't get a hold of anyone there and not going to walk that course.

I have a tee time there on Sunday this week. Just called the pro shop and spoke to David he said there are carts. Two to a cart if you’re family but one person per cart is preferred

Don't count on any of the military courses opening anytime soon. I work at MCAS Miramar.
