Open So Cal Courses

Most So. Nevada courses are closed. I don’t know if Primm Valley is open as it is in San Bernardino County. It feels like it’s in Nevada though.https://www.snga.org/golf-courses-during-covid-19/

Yeah David L Baker is the only place open in so cal that I know of. Was supposed to play yesterday but bailed due to the rain. Sucks because it’s prob matter of time before they succumb to the pressure to close.

All Riverside County courses ordered closed until June 19. Online booking information is bogus and it will only get your hopes up.

Thanks for that link. Very interesting data regarding the impacts on the golf industry.

Rode my bike from Yorba Linda to Huntington Beach and back and saw a player playing at Mesa Verde in Costa Mesa. It’s private so don’t know if he was a worker or staff out messing around but no pins in the greens and the course was empty. Also saw people playing Riverview that were clearly trespassing because they are closed too and that’s a public course. Also saw a guy hitting balls at Yorba regional park. Shag bag out hitting 100yd shots. Desperate times, desperate measures....

I've heard of a few privates that have worked out with the police to allow members walking only and no guests. They even sent notes to all the houses neighboring the course telling them not to call anyone in.

I have less issues with private courses allowing members to quietly walk and play golf. Typically, private clubs not only have fewer members on the course but many members are infrequent golfers under regular circumstances. At my last two clubs I'd play during the week and at times didn't see anyone in front of me over 18 holes. Sometimes I'd jump in my cart and just starting playing on the hole in front of my house, nobody cared. Additionally, under regular conditions, pvt club tee times have a much larger spread plus members know how to behave.

Public courses are altogether another subject, they pack them in tight. Plus too many people lack golf etiquette, struggle with pace of play and ahering to any sort of designated rules is a crap-shoot. Since leaving my last club playing public tracks has been a learning experience.

thats all fine and good i agree that public courses should have largely reduced tee times further than they did when they were still open however Newsom made it very clear that under the stay at home order that golf courses are included. i wouldnt have less of a problem if he amended that to say privates can operate (i still would be bothered by it but at least it would be within the scope of the order). But the issue with me is a private course, or any business, not only not abiding but allegedly striking up deals with local law enforcement

Private clubs are not open for play. However, when people live in a golf community and or on the course, as I did, members will go out and play some holes maybe even 18 when it's closed or empty. If I lived at my old club, I'd surely play a few holes now and again, despite Newsom's order. Also, seeing someone on the golf course that appears to be playing golf doesn't necessary mean he's playing 18. He might be playing 1 or 2 holes by himself as I would.

I am sorry to tell you this but what someone does that lives on pvt community like Mesa Verde or where I lived isn't germane to the rest of public golf community; it's private. Sounds more like jealously because with no one around, one man choosing to play golf by himself at a pvt club in no way affects anyone else including someone that sees him from a distance, out riding a bike. Yes, he's breaking a rule but he feels he can do that on his private course and maybe club leadership looks the other way. Remember, despite the health order, it's NOT a prosecutable law that if broken means prison.

I was on the BOD of two clubs and Monday's the course was closed, yet some members would go out and play. The board and home owners that lived on the course looked the other way. The remark about the club striking deals with LE is baloney. NO reputable club's leadership does that. FYI; places where I drive the speed limit max is 75mph - yet when no cars are around I hit 130-150mph.

there is a big difference between sneaking out to play a few holes with a course/community turning a blind eye and what we were discussing in the first place which is an organized effort to allow play that is acknowledged and communicated to members and allegedly LE. No one is saying people are or should be thrown in prison but I for one want to see golf and society as a whole return to normal as soon as possible and that is only going to be delayed if individuals choose to ignore guidelines put out there

Not looking to argue, just say, debating a course, public or private, secretly striking a deal with LE to overlook members playing is conjecture. As I said earlier, no course leadership following their fiduciary responsibility would conduct themselves in that manner, and LE wouldn't be bribed either. Let's just hope for a timely end to what has been clearly an overreaction to the Coronavirus. It's time to work and golf. Have a good day.
