Open So Cal Courses

Arrowood is one of my favorite courses, won a lot of money there. It's comparatively short but challenging and requires some target golf. I am too lazy so can't imagine walking it because of the elevation change. I still walk but only flatter courses.

Thanks for posting those pictures, though, good reminders. Number 10, driver or 2 iron depending on direction of breeze, then mid-long iron into green. Number #4 is a testy hole, though it looks easy. I was disappointed when they took out that big bunker off the tee, making the hole easier. I typically use 2 iron to just right of where the old bunker was and 5i-6i slight uphill into green. Number 17 is a good hole to up the bet. Lot's of people hit tee shot down the right side of the hole leaving a really long more difficult 2nd shot into that elevated small green. I haven't been to Arrowood in a while. Again, thanks.

Shorecliffs is still open but they allow bookings 30 days in advance so it's filling up - there's essentially nothing left for the next 10-12 days.

If you want to play I'd just get on and book some rounds, even if you cancel them later. You don't have to make a deposit.

I called and David L Baker is still open in Fountain Valley, but apparently it's booked solid as well. No tee times open at all. Even for 1 week out, which opened 7 hours ago at midnight, fully booked.

Played David L. Baker today. Decent executive course however the greens were very slow due to recent aeration. Still better than no golf. Tee times are booked until next week.

"Code enforcement officers Wednesday were dispatched to several golf courses and a tennis club in southern Orange County that have refused to close during the stay-at-home COVID-19 order.

"The Aliso Viejo (Country) Club is allowing members to walk the course. They're not taking this seriously," Orange County Supervisor Lisa Bartlett said. "We actually got complaint calls from neighbors asking why is a golf course open, why is a tennis club open?"

Bartlett said the clubs cannot remain open because there are too many "touch points" and it would be too difficult to ensure adequate social distancing and sanitizing at such recreational facilities.

Bartlett, who has been helping in efforts to acquire more personal protective equipment for healthcare workers, said she was "livid" that the complaints of non-essential businesses "going rogue ... was sucking up so much of our time."

Three public golf courses in San Clemente voluntarily shut down on Tuesday after issues were raised about why they were continuing to remain open."

All the courses both public and private in Riverside County were ordered closed through JUNE 19. But if you feel like walking on grass the parks and trails remain open. Go figure.

There's no restriction on walking the fairways, but one isn't allowed to play golf on them. Also, some parks and trails have closed.

To add worse news, Old Ranch CC had fire at maintenance building. Hopefully they come back with strong fleet of golf carts.

All the courses and ranges that I am familiar with in SOCA three counties are now closed. Don't know why practice ranges had to close. If you stand inside of 6' you'll hit someone in the head in your back swing.

Lot's of neighborhood squealers are showing their character or lack thereof. Most of the people squealing are not golfers either. Actually, from what I can tell from seeing them, they are couch potatoes that peak out windows and gossip. The other day five guys playing basketball were squealed on and LE showed up and asked them to leave. To show you how stupidly annoying squealers are, they posted their accomplishment on FB. These are the first people to whine about this or that. Can't stand weasels of any kind because weasels won't help anyone being accosted, they run the other way, after they use their cameras. Sorry for the rant.

I made "unthinkable" one day trip to Revere in Henderson. Despite 3.5 hr drive each way, we finished 36 holes in 7.5 hrs as the course was empty during the second round. We all had blast. no complaint despite of back pain. Oh, it was worth every minute and $. Unfortunately it is new norm for us at least for a while.

I wonder why other courses can’t do what David L. Baker is doing. I’ve played there 3 times now and have felt completely safe. I haven’t had to come within 10 feet of someone. Why aren’t others courses adapting?

Many courses adapted to the idea let's wait until LE shows up or a phone call before shutting the doors. Given all the calls to LE from squealers, LE simply hasn't got around to DLB yet, they will. Also, the chatter on here and other social media platforms doesn't help.
