After close to a decade away from Scotty's, I'm back in with a Phantom 8.

Much thanks to my Tank #7 and Betti BB55 for helping me expand my horizons, but it's time to go home.

The BB55 will be up on the bst, soon. Still in great shape.

I've always had a soft spot for the 2.5, can putt spectacularly well with centre shafted putters some days. Other days, not at all.

Found this in the bargain bin, decided to snatch it up since I've never owned a Scotty and this model in LH is not common. Cleaned it ip, hand polished it and now looks nearly new. Talk about a score, hopefully I like it.

To Boldly Putt with something I never thought i'd ever use... never mind love.

 

The one, the only... Scotty Cameron Futura 2003 model.

Second hand model at the local range, just felt right - and somehow sets up just right for me. A right hand golf playing left hander and left eye dominant - been using an arm lock Seemore and find that 'blocky' look works well for my aim - the Edel Brick is also one i've fancied but not used. Play it off my left foot, to get the ball forward in my stance so the left eye dominance doesn't get my shoulders all closed off...

 

And this freaky looking thing, the Futura, fits my eye - the shaft sets up in line with the flat face edge (so like the Seemore RST aspect) and the spine helps confirm my aiming line. Just felt great to swing in the shop... and was wonderful on my first round with it yesterday. The best thing i've ever tried for getting the ball where i think i'm aiming, and distance was good too.

Sounds as weird as it looks though but whatevva... when it works this well i'd forgive anything.

 

So weird looking it's beyond an ugly/beautiful discussion - and i'd certainly not accuse of Scotty of doing a Xerox job with this thing...

 

Also the size/shape of the Superstroke Midsize Slim (I think) grip was great - apart from the hideous material of it obviously, which will rot and fall apart within a year or two here in Thailand. SO... took a stanley knife to the grip seam and peeled that outer layer off, Add a couple of wraps of hockey tape to build it up a bit before wrapping some leather Bicycle handlebar tape I had spare - the brands is an Australian one called Dipell (https://dipell.com.au), lovely stuff. Finished off with some twine over the electrical tape and few coats of shellac. See here for how to do the twine finish original_twineforsite(2)(1).pdf

Took an Emery block and some Emery paper to the putter to smooth off some marks and scratches - wasn't too badly dinged up.

My uncle putted with that beast when it first came out, I thought it was the silliest looking putter ever. Now there are a ton of putters on the market with crazy shapes so it isn't an outlier.

I still have one, though the 2004 with the two lines on the top. And I got an aftermarket weight kit. It is very, very light, and as you say the alloy face makes for a weird sound. We actually use it as a punishment putter, whenever someone in group begins to putt poorly, they get the Futura for a round or two.

Tad Moore putters long necks are almost face balanced - ideal for SBST strokes and if you hate mallets

Life as a lefty. I can always find a RH and get it converted but I'd really want to have the putter to do that.

Odyssey Tank Cruiser #7 - for whatever reason the lines on this are the only thing I’ve ever found that help my putting alignment (other than lining up the words on the ball)

Picked up this Scotty Futura X 7m. Really like the all black look. Been playing an odyssey 7 and thought I would give this a shot. Rolls nice on the carpet and hope to get out to course some day.
