Agreed, not so much a shovel, seems majority of Ping's irons have a pretty wide sole, concentrated at toe. But isn't that the way most ping soles have always been? (Soles on irons other than s-line), to me all still have a similar shape going back to zings/eyes. Could be wrong, I don't know....

Hardly a waste, and definitely not "lol" worthy. First of all, none of the putters in the vault are solid gold--major winners get a solid gold putter, the vault gets gold plated versions. And secondly, if the major winning gold putter is milled, the replica that goes to the major winner is milled out of gold. They're just extraordinarily careful with the shavings! I think Angel Cabrera's Redwood Anser was the first to get made that way. PING even made a gold Redwood Anser pendant for his wife.

And lastly, you're calculating the value the putters on the weight. You've got to remember, gold is a lot more dense than steel, so a solid gold putter weighs a good bit more than 350 grams.
