srixon 745's WOW!!!!!!

anyone find the 745 heads to be heavy? I've got them at +.5" in s300s. Cut them down from +3/4" which were sledge hammers at D 7.5. Came from 710mbs +3/4" in s400s which were D 6.5 but these 745s at d6 feel real heavy for some reason. Looking at lighter shafts but I already hit a very high ball so anything higher launch and spin might start to balloon. On the shaft chart the TT DG superlight seemed to be lower mid launch and same on spin. The nippons all seemed higher launch and more spin. What might be good option to get these clubs lighter in a shaft similar to dg s300? I might be able to cut them down another .25" as well. The +.5 seems longer maybe its the V sole or illusory, not sure.

Do you know anyone who has tried the modus 120x stiff shafts in the 745's......Searched the entire thread and have found no mention of it.

The only one that I am aware of has gone all Titleist. Don't remember his name though. Something like Sushi. Or Fooshee.. Something like that.

I have the 745s with Modus3 120s. X's soft stepped once for whatever that's worth.

I am getting fit for a set of Z745 on Sunday and the fitter doesn't have the Nippon modus tour 130's on his cart. I really want these shafts but not being able to hit them makes me a bit nervous. I am a steep swinger and typically de-loft my irons and I am looking for a high launching shaft. I know the V sole will be great for my steeper swing and the bounce should help with turf interaction.

I was just wondering if I should buy the Modus 130s blind without hitting them first?

Thanks

Honestly, your best bet is to send a PM to 'markheardjr' who has an incredible knowledge of all the Nippon shafts and will probably be able to give you a very detailed answer to your question.

You could also do a search within this thread but you might not get an answer tailored to you:

I agree 100% with this. He's WRX's #1 Nippon guru.

I have Modus3 120s in mine, and the guy I had do a shaft swap (from 714 AP2s to the 745s) needed to use weights to get them up to the D3/4 range. I play mine standard as 38" 5 iron.

What did the modus 120's do to the standard D3 sw? Im at d6 in +.5" s300s and they feel way too heavy (this coming from d7 and d8 irons previous in Titleist) 120 Stiff or X most similar to the s300? I hit the s300s with a very high strong flight, any further height in flight could be an issue. Project X 6.0 ball flight was way too low in long irons, probably needed flighted or 5.5

Yes the shorter irons are +.5 and I've hit the 120x they seem a bit soft. Still a great feeling iron but the 130x gets my ball flight a bit stronger. I haven't hit he s300 or x100 in so long. Can't remember. before Nippon I played px6.5 &7.0 rifle fcm but I'm 40 now so had to find something a bit softer and the 130x aren't soft but feel better than he 6.5 px. Long irons seem to get flat sooner than the px which almost ballooned.

I swung a 7 iron at +1/4" in s300 and weight seemed perfect, should be D4.5 theoretically. The length felt ok, not too short but noticeably shorter than +.5 or +.75 i've played for 20 years. Im 6'2" 37.5 wtf. Ping chart has me at +.25 or .50, right on edge. I'm sure with 3-6 iron the length will be no issue but 8-pw it might. Play wedges at +.5 anything shorter is too short. Sounds like you play long irons standard length and 8-pw +.5?

I ordered my 745 with KBS tour s shaft and have been told they are on back order and will be a couple weeks before they arrive.I am guessing they are getting a lot of orders or maybe some material shortages.

I ordered mine on 1/25 and was told about 3 weeks. I think they have been on and off of backorder since they were released. BTW ordered mine with PX 6.0.

I almost went the Px 5.5 but ended up with the Kbs tour stiff.3 weeks is a long wait for a new set of clubs. Cant wait to try them out .

I originally got mine with the KBS Tour 120 stiffs... great feeling shafts but they were heavier than what I had been playing which was the PX 5.5 flighted shafts... I had them laying around so I pulled the KBS and put the 5.5 in and they changed everything for me with the 745s. I am in love with these irons, first time in a long time I have NO urge to try something else. PX are giving me a little higher flight as opposed to the KBS Tours.

Mine originally came with Flighted 6.0s in them and they were a solid combo, much better than I was expecting. I replaced them at the end of the season with the Modus 120s and only have one round in on them, but I'm keeping the 6.0s around just in case.

I've got a set of 945 heads on the way and trying to decide to shaft them with Steel Fiber 120's, KBS Tour V (currently play), or the Modus 125's. Really pumped to get these heads in though and give them a try. Slightly bigger then a standard blade but so easy to hit. The sole is a gem as well. I hit them at the Demo Day at the PGA Show and put the ball in a divot and hit shots with it and it still didn't dig and got the ball out so easily. Was very impressed.

When I originally hit the Modus 120s I was REALLY impressed with the feel.. I wound up getting a set of 120x 3-pw and soft stepped them into the 745s. They felt good but I could just tell they weren't right for my swing, so I bought 1 120s and threw it in my mp53 6 iron to see if I could notice much of a difference between it and the SS 1x 120x. The 120s is a little lighter feeling but flex wise, I really didn't feel too much, so I opted to not buy a full set of the Nippons and just put the flighted shafts in and I am glad I did. The Modus' are really nice shafts and I hope they work out for you but I think you are smart holding onto the 6.0 if they worked for you before.
