SNELL GOLF BALLS??? anyone???

Very excited to read these early reviews of the 4.0.    I really hope they pan out,  I might order some soon.

I grabbed a box of Prov1x left dashes and I was really let down by the performance.  Didn't find it very durable, wasn't getting the extra distance with the driver I thought,  and very little control around the greens.

Ended up finding an LA Golf ball and man was that a night and day difference for me - but those are wicked expensive.

My box each of 3.0 and 4.0 arrived today.  I'm splitting them with one of my buddies who is an even more ardent user of MTB Black than I am.  Unfortunately, I probably won't get a chance to try them for a few weeks.

Heads up.

I received my test pack and took the sleeve of 2.0 to my round today.  Gave each of my playing partners (2 others) a 2.0 to hit comparison shots with their current ball.  One plays the Titleist Trufeel and one plays the Snell MTB Prime.  I play the Callaway Chrome Soft.  We concluded the same thing.  The 2.0 is NOT the "very soft" ball that is shown on the packaging and Snell website.  We all thought it was fine off the driver, but with any other club, it felt like a rock.  After a couple holes, we all concluded that it was not worth playing any further.  Just no feel and definitely not a tour level or even "very soft" ball.

I saw the 4.0 yellows were available already and ordered some to try, i was thinking the release initially said June but i could’ve misread. The early mention of a lower launch isn’t exactly what I’m looking for but excited to give it a run beside the pro v1x.

I should say it’s not super low and it still spins great. I even thinned a gap wedge that hit the front of a green and instead of running off it two hop stopped.

Also thanks for pointing out the yellow. One dozen of those and 4 of the whites. I’m ready to roll

Yeah man, I play yellow so I was planning to just read reviews until the yellow launch in June but their email yesterday said now available so I jumped on it.

Performance of 2.0

Driver - did not feel necessarily hard and performance was similar for one of us, but shorter for 2 of us.  This was pretty consistent on the 3 holes that we all played the ball.

Irons - the sound and feel was so off putting that we didn't really pay attention to the distance, but I would say that it was consistently shorter than our gamer balls.

Spin with irons - did not seem to perform any differently from any other 2 piece ball that we've played.  In other words, it did not want to stop on the green any quicker.

Looking for feedback on 3.0 vs 4.0 and other balls you may have used.  No experience with left dash.  I am right at the very top threshold for recommended 3.0 distance-wise but could probably go either way.  I usually gravitate towards 3 layer and fewer dimples although I can't recall seeing any info on that. Have used MTB Black in past and Prime X (over the Prime with the change in launch/spon characteristics), most recently tried Vice Pro and Pro Plus thinking I prefer the plus.

'24 BX and Callaway CT and '24 TP5x got beat out by the Snell. It may be a little shorter than them slightly but has great green side spin and in bulk they are $20-$25 cheaper per dozen so it is a no brainer to me.

I found a stash of 3.5 dozen MTB-X I forgot I had. Might have to put them back in play.

I’ve been gaming the ProV1x, and the Bridgestone BX before that. I wish both had some more spin around the greens. Will the 4.0 be most similar to these three balls I’ve played with?

Have you tried the Callaway CTX? Loads of spin around the green and same long game performance as the BX.

It’s really good. I was BX guy, but CTX is better off the irons and inside 70yds for me. Just as long off the woods and really good in the wind as well.

I’m a “tweeter” and having a hard time deciding between the 2 balls.  Hoping one of you golf ball gurus or even Dean can help me decide.  At 170 I’m pulling 7 iron.  I’m one that spins irons too much and looks for ways to cut down spin ie ball choice.  I have played multiple rounds with both, see really no difference other than off the putter. I like the 4.0 off the putter. I usually go for the lower spin ball like Pro V over Pro Vx. I’m assuming the 3.0 would be a better choice for me over the 4.0?

This is the kind of statement that makes me want to take them for a spin. I’m a V1x guy but have some 4.0’s on order, may need to grab a sleeve of the CTX.

I think the 3.0 would make a bit more sense if you’re looking for less iron spin.  I haven’t tested the 4.0 on course yet, but the 3.0 for sure doesn’t seem like a super spinny ball on approach.

My observances alone...

Playing 9 holes thursday with my new box of 4.0s. Not much wind to worry about (rare) and ball performed admirably! On the 6th hole, noticed the below. Was in one trap on the 5th, didn't hit anything like any walls or trees (fairways and rough only).

Still played the ball and continued through another 9 yesterday with no observable performance degradation - to my knowledge. Went expected distances, trajectory and handled the cold wind Friday VERY well. Still happy with it in this honeymoon phase and will play it for another 18 today to really test its durability. Seems to just be paint.

Sorry for the real closeups of my fingers/thumb.

Lost that ball above on the 17th hole yesterday as it decided it wanted to go swimming with the fishies. No issue with flight, control, distance. I'm all in with the new 4.0 ball! Feels and performs like, if not a little better than, the MTBX. Great around greens, stopping distance, chips, and it may be the putter (milled Mizuno M.Craft OMOI 6), feels like butter and no "click". Just a nice sounding tap/thud.

Agree bits a great ball. I should add I played again yesterday. Lost three on bad swings. Greens were like trampolines and fast. Got a little more roll out with the 4.0 but nots bad. Ball did exactly what I wanted.

I should be getting a couple dozen of the 4.0 delivered today, will see how they feel tomorrow when I play. Have mostly played the vice pro plus but this year have switched to the CTX. Have not tried the 24 TP5x but the CTX has been a great ball, touch more spin around the greens while still being long off the tee.

Well my 5 doz came in and I am going to keep playing them. Played the yellow ball for the whole round today and shot a personal best, breaking 90. Ball basically is like new despite hitting some trees and rocks. No scuffing at all.

I’ve done some preliminary testing of the 3.0 and the 4.0 this week. Here are a few initial thoughts….

I don’t find either ball to be “clicky” off the putter.

Both fly about the same distance off the driver.

The 4.0 spins a little more off the long and mid irons.

Both are pretty much one hop and stop for me on short irons.

The 4.0 provides a little more spin on full wedge shots, pitches, and chips.
