Away from the golf course lack of management... a nice result from the abbreviated vacation. Turns out I was refunded parts of every aspect of the trip. I was only charged for the days I stayed at the hotel, got back the attempted upgrade seat for the flight back and was refunded a good portion of the rental car charge.

 

Life got a little better today, even in the material sense.

 

Ok, Carry on, I haven't played since July when Black Rock was in good condition aside from marked GUR situations.

I also think the M2 might need to be cranked up a notch. At 10.5 in the "std loft" setting, I think the traj seems a bit low. I can't be sure without the expert eye of Callaway Tex^TM though.

 

I do like it set up one notch so I guess thats @ 11.25*?

 

That seems right. There are so many damn notches on those adapters, I've got to find the guide on which setting does what. There are at least 2-3 settings that get the loft to 11.25, with different lie and/or face angles, right? Do you know which setting you're using?

 

One notch higher from standard. I have no quantitative way to know if thats actually better or worse but its kind of where I've settled that looks the best to my eye.

I feel for the course. Basically all of the courses in the area here have bent grass greens and most of them have burnt up areas. Some courses shut down for a month to try and repair while others chose to stay open. My new home course has grass growing back in the burnt up areas finally so that's nice. But a really nice private course (Federal club) closed for a month.

 

This isn't burnt fairways. The initial explanation we were told was the the former superintendent left ALL of the sprinklers for 12+ hours flooding large sections of the course. No idea if that was actually true but I promise you that their turf loss is not "burnt" due to hot weather. Half of the tee boxes were unusable.

If the sprinklers were actually left on for an extended period of time this summer, when the heat was up for several days afterwards, it can cause a lot more damage than no water at all. Too much water restricts the oxygen intake in the root system as well as lending to water-borne diseases at ground level. In the long run, they could have burned the grass with too much water. Bermuda is fairly drought tolerant, and can survive well on an inch or less a week of water.

Chasing the dragon one more last time with the GBB then off to the pasture it will go.

 

Got some adapters thrown on my trusty 661 and my 6 dollar (thanks rock bottom golf) vs proto Aldila 60x and cut down to 45.5 for trial by fire.

 

We shall see how it goes...I have always played 45.75 so that will be a change too.

Sorry, Token Avenue was 15 blocks ago. Might need to hang a left on Shackle lane, take a right at the Old Battle Axe since it dead ends and you can't hang the left with it being one way, yet it's 6 lanes wide (go figure). Take the Next left on Pimpahoe Drive. Hang a left at the Rickety Codger Inn and then a final left onto Brokeback Place. Token Avenue will be at the following dead end.

 

Fun aside, it's more like $$ to spend on either Computer upgrades (Graphics Card and more RAM for gaming) or getting that set of Steelhead XRs.

To clarify, Oak Creek conditions were good. The greens and fairways were just a bit shaggy, but greens were smooth. Look, every course is hurting from the heat. At 60, OC is a good deal. Very good, actually.

oooh. the idea of a relaxing mani/pedi in preparation for the tournament sounds like such an absolutely awful/stupid what kind of golfer suggests such great idea!! Thanks! Hope to have a nice showing this year and improve on the 3rd place from last year.

I think during the week OC is a great $34 course - I think on weekends its just an OK $64 course. Decent conditions, bad layout, bad pace of play on weekends - terrible clubhouse service. But for $34 during the week you could do a lot worse in this area.

 

And their waste bunkers still appear to be something akin to a rocky/crushed asphalt, I would never make someone hit out of them, not worth ruining your club over.

Really? Wow. I guess I'm surprised/not surprised that all those VA locations are closing. I dont know anything about the rent they are paying but to leave the Tysons one as the only one open seems odd. It was back in the spring when I was last in the Fairfax store but I came back and said I thought they looked like they were closing because of the complete lack of product - so that one is not surprising. I thought 1 or 2 would definitely close but I'm surprised at all 3.
