Playing in a scramble today this afternoon. A guy I know from the gym found me on Facebook after looking at my Instagram and noticing I play golf. It's at a great course that I played another scramble at earlier this year. We shot -21 that event and still didn't win. SMH.

 

In preparation for today, I went to Golfsmith and picked up a new glove but also hit some M2 3 woods (didn't do it for me) and also hit the Srixon 745 and 945 6 irons. I think the launch monitor was f*****. I was hitting the 6 iron 230ish which was further than I was hitting the M2 3 Wood (only in stiff flex). But anyway, I like the feel of the 745s and they were definitely forgiving. The 945s were nice, but if you didn't hit it right in the middle you felt it. The 745s also had the C Tapers while the 945 had the x100. I think the C Taper 130X is my shaft. I like them in my JPX 850 forged irons. I told myself I wasn't considering changing irons but after hitting those, I might...

 

Had a visit with my endocrinologist and my levels are much better than four months ago. Still some work to do on m A1C level. Gotta get my a** in the gym and training and tighten up the diet.

In some cases I think if the launch monitor is set on "woods" and you hit an iron the algorithms will be all mixed up and it will make it seem like you are crushing the irons. Or something like that.

There is just a string of 15-20 1 star reviews on GolfAdvisor. Couple guys made pretty good points, if its so bad right now, they should close. They are acknowledging it is pathetically bad - to the point of giving people free rounds when they check in - but yet they are still taking people's money.

 

I wish Westfields owned up to the fact that their conditions are not worthy of a $100 golf course.

The only potential change with my bag is that I may have to get another club on the top end. Not above the 7-wood. Maybe 5 iron. I can't remember if there are a few tees where 7-wood is too much club, or one of the par 3s being a bit longer than 7iron but less than 7wood (#4?).

Yeah. That was my deciding factor in choosing to forgo Westfields for an early round next week.

Yes, when we had the 2 iron competition and your friend lost.

Any one have a recent conditions report for Redgate? Some friends are playing there Saturday morning.

 

I've played Redgate a number of times this season, most recently a couple weeks ago, I think. It's better than it was last year, but it's still not great. There are bare spots in some of the fairways. The some of the greens have chewed up spots. I think they haven't been cutting the greens much, to protect them, so they're pretty slow. The bunkers haven't had any real sand in them in years.

 

The only reason I play there some times is that it's cheap and not that busy. Probably due to the conditions. Wouldn't really recommend it.

I have been thinking about dropping the driver for the sevens this year. I think I could very well get away with bringing my hybrid as the longest club. I don't know how much that really helps though. It's not like I was really dying to have another iron or wedge in my bag last year. I could be happy with this setup.

Well, it's only hypothetical since I have a bachelor party that weekend and can't play. But last year was my second time through and I bottom-loaded the bag and was happy with it. This year, I would have gone:

First time through I found myself wishing for more options on approach shots. I don't think there's a hole on the course I'd have trouble with at 3i/6i for length.

Not only is driver not necessary, there are a lot of times it's way too much off the tee. You need something between driver and 8 iron for sure. Wait, what team are you on? Never mind.

 

The only holes I'd say I'd really want driver are #11 (I think? The short par4), and #16 (? par5). On the rest it either doesn't help or flat out hurts.

Right. Though I don't think I need something between driver and 8i. Last year I brought my 6i with me, and I think I may have used it once or twice. You don't really need one of those middle ground clubs when you have the fast twitch muscles and rotational speed of a short person.
