Not sure how old some of your cars are but the federal vehicle emissions warranty covers 99% of emissions related parts (catalytic converters, valves, sensors, intakes manifolds, valve train parts etc) for 7yr/70K miles with some things (catalytic converters) for 8/80. I had a catalytic converter go out on a car at 81k and GM still covered it.

 

Usually you will notice a performance loss when the converter goes bad. If you aren't experiencing loss of power or very bad smelling exhaust you may have different issues. Go to Advanced Auto or Auto Zone and they will scan your vehicles computer for free and will tell you why the check engine light is on. Nice to be prepared when the dealer tries to bend you over.
