GTF : I don't really know what my favorite club ever is. Probably the powerbilt 4w I had as a kid. I was able to hit it about as fat as my driver. The 8th hole at my course growing up had a pond that was probably 180 to clear and I remember when I could finally clear it with the 4w.

 

GTF 2 : what's your least favorite club ever?

 

Me, probably every hybrid ever. I bought a Callaway Diablo driver when I started getting back into the game and I was terrible with that club. It was low lofted and the "tour model" and I don't remember ever hitting a good drive with it.

I watched a few holes of his in between sneezes and dozing off. He isn't swinging anywhere near what someone needs to in order to be to tee it up out there. From impact thru follow thru he's pulling the club, like he's hitting at the ball instead of thru it. And on 18 when he was placing his ball on the green, he looked like he was in serious pain squatting and trying to stand up. He used to be deliberate with things, sort of alpha dog like. He had a snap, and he wanted to drain that putt right there. Today, it was "work" for him to be there.

I was 90 miles away from running out of the "certified pre owned" warranty that got extended when I bought the car. Going to save me a bunch of dough. Pure luck that it came on this week. I had no idea.

 

The guy at the counter starts asking me "what are you doing this weekend?"

 

I go, "are you making chit chat or are you going to have my car all weekend?"

 

He was making chit chat.

GTF2: My first driver, the TaylorMade RBZ. I hated that thing so much.

GTF2: when I was younger, I got a hand-me-down driver from my dad. It was a King Cobra 10.5 with offset. It had a graphite shaft so I thought that was badass. But it was horrible. Terrible.

 

I hit 5-wood off the tee for years.

GTF : 735.CM irons. So many good shots and rounds in the memory bank with them.

 

GTF2 : The PING Ketsch putter I tried last year. AWFUL. In the midst of a putting slump, it threw me deeper into my downward spiral.

GTF0: I read it as DTF and was like... Really? Already?

 

GTF1: My Maxflis. Owned them since 2000, will go back to them again in the near future I'm sure. I have yet to find a set of irons as timeless - long blade length, constant low offset, thin topline, great feel, etc etc.

DTF: Coffee and water. I was at Top Golf with some coworkers yesterday and then went out for a bit after. I no longer have the drive to keep up with the new college grads when it comes to drinking. Feeling it this morning. However, I successfully convinced a few unwitting coworkers that I'm a good golfer. You guys know better.

The great thing about going to Topgolf with people from work is that if you can hit the ball 150 yards in the air you look like Jordan Speith to everyone there.

We had a range of skills. One of the women couldn't hit it anywhere, but we were on the upper deck and she would knock it straight and it'd roll in to the little 25 yard buckets for 3-6 points at a time. There were a few embarrassed young men beaten by her in one game. Not me of course. I would aim at the 200 bucket and get some oohs and ahs, but didn't rack up a ton of points. I think I could have wiped the floor more by hitting at the 150. Kent's rules also apply to Top Golf.

Oh yeah I think the danger on the upper deck of taking driver is that the balls might end up in the parking lot at the top of the hill.

GTF: My Slighter putter. Been with me since 2011. Not going anywhere. I try a putter every now and then for shiggles, but bae aint going anywhere.

GTF: White Hot XG #9 putter. 33 inches. I made everything with this putter. I left it on a hole while out practicing one night and never got it back. I have the Metal-X version now and it is good but the XG was the GOAT.

GTF 2.0: Ben Hogan hybrid. That thing was awful. A Taylormade Rossa putter was also a failed experiment.

It's a 6-7 hour $1500 repair. I thought I was going to be in and out.

 

Except, I'm not on the hook for the $1500. If I'd waited till Monday, I'd have been on the hook for the $1500.

 

Still, it's like $200 for spark plugs, $200 for coolant flush, $200 for a new battery. $300 because when they take the manifold off, they're doing some "carbon build up" cleaning. Still going to be out $1100.

 

Wha ev, though. That's the price of car ownership. Gave me a loaner.

Glad they are mostly taking care of it even though it still sounds like they are hornswaggling you for an bunch of sh!t because of the warranty work. Not saying that's the case but that has been my experience with VW dealers having owned quite a few. Would've been pretty douchey of them if they made you come out of pocket on the 1500 were it next week and you were slightly over the warranty mileage. Good way to lose a customer IMO.

 

Traded in my 2011 GTI middle of last year. It was a great car and it still went through 3 water pumps and some other part related to the cooling system all under 40k miles. I love the cars and they are probably the best they've ever been, but the parts are so poorly made and still expensive.

So my wife has an older VW that she wants to get rid of. Well, actually she wants to drive my car and make me get a new one. Not interested, love driving my car. But I took hers in for service and wandered into the Subaru dealer next door. Really just wanted to pop in to ask a question about the Crosstek my mom has an issue with but found myself looking at the new WRX. Just smoking hot. Salesguy said its a different kind of ride than I might be used to. When I asked how so - he said "its really abusive. Abusive."

 

If you use the word abusive twice to define the ride type - thats pretty good right.
