MD/VA/DC Golfers - Ten Seconds or Less

Get well soon Nerf. Ask for dilaudid.

Busted through the barrier and played 18 yesterday from the ladies tees with city, pq, and eagle. Nothing longer than hybrid in the bag. Swing was better than I thought it'd be after nothing for almost 3 months. Didn't keep score and used a few foot wedges, but contact was pretty good. Encouraging is probably the best word to describe.

More importantly, knee held up well. There were a couple of times it started getting sore, but nothing felt like it was coming from the actual compartment....seemed like a lot of superficial stuff that hasn't been used in a while. That was the farthest I've walked since the surgery, and I was pretty tired when I got home. Slept like a rock. Knee feels absolutely fine today. 9 weeks post-op. I really think that because this is my 5th orthopedic surgery, I was better prepared to take the recovery process seriously and blow past the "typical" timelines. My first surgery I certainly took as long or longer than they expected to be healed, but I wasn't as good with doing stuff at home. This surgery I was doing exercises/stretches as soon as I got home from the hospital.

eagle, pq, and city are all terrible golfers and worse people. Avoid at all costs.

LOL - as a parent who has taken many work calls with loud kids, I can appreciate this. Love how the woman comes flying in to drag the kids out.

Sometimes people want things on a timeline that they control more than they want a discount.

OR THEY DONT KNOW

FWIW the Clic pricing on their spare parts is really reasonable IMO.

GTF: No but the swing was better when I was fat than it is now.

However, I look really good without my shirt on so future success in landing a girlfriend increase dramatically (looking at someone's daughter---hint it's Kents daughter)

Golf Talk Friday : How do you think your swing is impacted by any physical limitations you might have, and/or do you think your swing causes you any physical issues?

This would get a little more truck if you asked about psychological effects.

I'm short. Probably shortest guy here, but I don't feel short at the ball. I use standard length clubs. Plane is plane, though. You can be short and steep or tall and flat.

Does it cause me any physical issues? Every year. Knees, hips, fingers, shoulders, elbows, wrists, necks. I'm always either dealing with something or waiting for the next thing I'm gonna deal with.

GTF: Yeah, unfortunately I've come to accept that this is called "getting old" lol. My back will always be my back but thankfully I havent had a serious incident in almost two years. Hoping that with the spin classes and yoga that they will be few and far between but nothing that has affected my overall swing so far (wait is "mental impairment" something to consider)

Otherwise I've just come to accept that if I'm going to play or hit balls 4-5 days a week during the season that I'm always going to be dealing with some sort of ailment.

the next time anyone buys anything clic related before sending me a PM i am going to lose my friggin MIND.

Does anyone know where I can get a USGA handicap for a reasonable fee - like $25-30? I guess I could join the MSGA for $40 and get one there.

I think the MoCo courses charge 30 bucks for keeping a handicap.

Golf Talk Friday : How do you think your swing is impacted by any physical limitations you might have, and/or do you think your swing causes you any physical issues?

Been thinking a lot about this lately, actually, as I try and recover my swing and figure out how i got so f'ed up. I used to have a very technically sound motion. Now I have a couple major mechanical issues that I am convinced are the result of playing through injuries suffered off the course. However, I have been healthier in the last year (other than still being a fat f'er), I don't feel like I have any limitations that really impact my game.

To my point:

  • 5 years ago I partially tore my ACL, but opted for PT instead of sugery b/c it allowed me to get back on the ice/course quicker. Naturally, I still came back too early and compensated for the right knee instability by trying to get to my left side as quickly and fully as possible. I also had a couple other, unrelated knee and ankle issues since. As a result, I shift early and tilt toward the target, rather than away.
  • I lave lost count of all my shoulder issues, but I am convinced that a low grade separation a few years back got me in the habit of lifting, rather than getting a full turn in my swing, causing improper arm rotation/ and ATL issues.

On the other hand, my only current physical "limitation" is a left finger/hand issue that crops up on occasion. I can manage it by not strangling the club, so it actually helps me.

You can actually measure the amount of psychological limitations one is experiencing very easily. Clock the amount of time it takes somebody to start their swing once they've returned their gaze to the ball from the target.

GTW :

I don't know the answer to the first part of my question. I guess it'd be interesting to look at my swing before and after the start of the end. I wouldn't be surprised if I've developed some compensations to try and prevent further damage.

The answer to the second part is an obvious yes. I stopped working out when my first child was born, so golf is the only physical thing I do. Not much other than golf, and trying to carry $hit that I should be trying to carry at home to hurt me at this point.

My continued ailments definitely have me thinking about ways I might be able to take stress off my body with swing changes. Setting the club more quickly on the backswing and follow through is tops on that list.

Not sure about this one, I can shoot 95 fast, I can shoot 95 slow. Sometimes it's a focus issue more than an overthinking issue.

Ya got any brake parts? Or floaties? Asking for a friend.

Or a clip on waterproof case for valuables, like a cell phone or rangefinder, for example.

I will sadly take this crown away from you if I can ever make it out for any event/outing.

Nerf I had my gall bladder removed about 4 years ago or so and never had any of those symptoms, so not sure if that makes you feel better or worse. Basically just felt like a constant stomach ache for a few months that would be better some days and worse on others. Hope you get it figured out.

I find the specificity of this lol'able.

Any weather experts on here - is it even remotely reasonable to make such detailed predictions at this point?

There is no part of me that is going to avoid complaining just because we didn't have a legit winter. FFS Wednesday is the start of handicap season. Don't do this to me, golf gods.
