On a slope 113 course, i'd need Phil to give me like 11 total. Say it was on a slope 140...he'd have to give me about 13 to be fair. So, if he did that, I'd probably lay out $2000 a side.

 

If he gave me 11, I'd probably play him for $1500 a side. Willing to lose like 5 grand to do this.

 

I don't think you guys are putting enough value on "the story you will tell the rest of your life".

 

That's the kind of money you spend on a very nice vacation. Like Hawaii, with golf. Totally worth it.

 

I'd spend more money to play Phil at cross creek than I would to play at Augusta with four schmucks.

 

A run of the mill pro... I'd spend a few hundred per side. But one of the biggies... When he was still competitive, yeah over a thousand. And Phil or Tiger would be my top, but Tiger would have to talk to me (and listen to me) about golf.

I dont think I put a monetary figure on mine but I dont think you are too far off.

 

I'm not going to open up this can of turds but...Phil has "off days" too. Look at his Pebble scores. I'd have no problem taking 10-12 strokes from him on his 77 day. On his 69 day, its a closer race. Same with Spyglass. And I only say that b/c I've played the courses and am somewhat familiar with how I would do there.

 

Again, I'm not playing him at 7500 plus for any amount. Neutral site, "regular" course conditions.

I know people don't think this way, but at 7500 yards, you might be getting a couple more strokes. You might be getting 4 more strokes than at 6800.

 

One thing I've learned from playing 7000+ a lot is how to "take double out of play" on holes I can't reach. If I'm getting a stroke on every par 4 that is 460 yards, I don't think I'm losing those holes.

I was thinking 1K per side, but I actually think it might be more now. Hard to really say. If someone asked me if I would spend 3k right now for a chance to play with Phil tomorrow, I would do it in a second. 5k and I would have to think about it, but probably still do it. So my answer is probably between those two numbers. I would literally be telling stories about that round for the rest of my life. And if I managed to beat him, you better believe my GolfWRX name would be BeatPhillyMickInAMatch.

I'd play for 1k a side if I could pick their golf brain during the round. My handicap right now is way too low for how I'm playing so that is hurting me. But playing from a longer distance and getting more strokes is a big advantage for me IMO.

No clue, I'm currently slated to run a Pickup Route the next 3 days. So dinner could be anything, really. Pizza, McDonald's, Lasagna, or plain old Hot Dogs and Hamburgers.

No one will buy or trade you shafts. They sell new shafts to people who want to pay to have it done.

 

PX 5.5 (4-pw) have a resale value between $60-$80. Talking used retail.

 

Get fitted. Buy them used. Have someone install them. Unless you don't care about the monetary portion.

Long par 4s with a stroke is the bread and butter out there. It's the 520-540 yard par 5s I'm in trouble on that he can reach. Or the long 3s where I'm not stroking or the short 4s where I'm not stroking and he's making a lot of birdies.

 

I'm winning or halving most of those long 4s where I stroke. Very tough 3 for him very easy 5 for me.

Phil Mickelson isn't playing those holes in better than -1? More days than not he shoots -1 on those holes. I just think your statement of you're not losing those holes is an overstatement. Maybe you were being hyperbolic? Not sure. I think you tie those holes more than winning or losing them.

 

Just a refresher here. His worst day in tour conditions this year is a day you'd be thrilled to have out there with our regular game in a zero pressure situation.

 

I don't sell City short. I do think City sells PGA tour pros short.

 

He'd average 68 at Waverly, I suspect. Maybe half a stroke more at Hobbits. Don't know what you average out there, but probably low 80s. I don't know. He's birdieing 450 yard holes all of the time. That's a stock 4 for him. Or any of those guys.

 

If he's giving you 12 strokes at Waverly, I think it'd be a close match, but he's winning most of the time. Just don't agree on the "not losing" long 4 comments. I'd love to find out. In fact, I'd pay to watch that match more than I'd pay to partake in it.

And I agree that those are the holes you'd most often win, but you'd lose them just as much.
