Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

Lights out shooting guys, nice job

Looking forward to playing keeper lakes this week

Haven't played there since it went private (2004,2095)

It will be interesting to see the new bunkering there and gee-acquaint myself with the course prior to next years women's PGA tourney

I really want to get out there again one of these days. Looks great driving by.

My travels don't take me past Kemper Lakes much.

I drive 83 quite a bit near 22, so I was surprised to see that Kemper is not that far from Royal Melbourne (duh).

Looks like one can see 5th green and 6th hole (par 3) from 22, and 10, 11 from Old McHenry.

(Foxford Hills 15 and 16 are replica or tribute holes by Nugent's son for 11 and 12 at Kemper Lakes (probably common knowledge)

Lots of courses in that small area (Kemper, RM, Twin Orchard, The Grove) that would be great to play. I used to caddie at Kemper so I played it a lot.... But all pre bunker redo.

I realize performance is ultimately all that should matter but I've never liked having irons that have a lot going on in the cavity in terms of badging and graphics. For example, I had the 2011 Taylormade MC Forged with the big ugly screw in the cavity and, while the irons performed really well, the general ugliness was kind of bothersome for me and I didn't hesitate at all to move on to the MP-64s. It's strictly a vanity thing but, if I've got two irons that perform equally well and one has no badging and/or minimal graphics in the cavity and the other one does, I'm picking the former every time. That said, I was always a fan of the Cobra Amp Forged. I can deal with funky colors (I actually liked the Nike Vapor Pro irons with the green swoosh as well) but badging and, oh, I don't know, something like a giant screw are turnoffs. It's just a personal preference though. To each his own.

Yeah, the equipment forum reads like a bunch of guys all trying to out-****** each other with condescending iron comments. It's funny for a while but it gets old fast. I'm careful what I click on now.

Just like clothing it's gotta look and feel good to you. I don't care what numbers say, if the club doesn't appeal to my eye I won't have as much confidence with it. I can't relate with the cavity myself since I only care what it looks like at address but i totally understand it. There's a reason I haven't replaced my irons after getting near the end of the 5th season with them, they look good and they perform for me.

As far as Big Run, not sure who was asking or if you ended up out there but I do think everybody should try it for themselves at least once. I personally love the course, although I do agree it could use some tree removal and maybe some green re-design on a few holes. The big thing on that course is to keep it below the hole always, especially on holes 11 and 18, even if below the hole means your chipping. Your game will be tested out there, playing it on a regular basis I always feel improves my game.

I got 18 in up at a course called Brookfield Hills in Wisconsin. It was a par 62 course and of course I was expecting a pitch and putt when my buddy suggested it. Conditions were average but the greens were a real challenge and all the holes were legit, par 3's were generally in the 170-220 range and not many par 4's under 400 requiring a lot of precision off the tee and on the approach. Not sure I'd make a return but it was a fun one time go and given that I've been down most of the summer it was something to ease back in. I'm hoping to play this coming Monday with my group at Willow Crest.

Heading over to Lake Geneva over the weekend - Highland on Saturday, Brute on Sunday. Not sure what to expect since Ive never played either course. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
You'll enjoy them. Conditions should be really good with the great temps we've had. I haven't been there this year, but greens usually run nicely and are fairly decent size. Take some pics and report back. Have a great time!

Great day at kemper lakes today

Greers were running fast and the new bunkering is very aesthetically pleasing

Slightly reminiscent of photos of Royal Melbourne that I've seen (the real deal RM in aus)

Played the tips and thank god the fairways were firm

Playing a Scramble there on Sunday. Hate that the airification is starting already. Looking at the forecast we are in store for some 70's still coming up on weekends. No one likes putting on airified greens.

Saturday's forecast looks rather bleak, with scattered t-storms and 20 mph winds. My rib is still bothering me, so I may just wind up at Jackson Park GC if there's a break in the rain. No sense in paying top dollar to duff the ball around in the muck and wind.

... Dave, btw I played Prairie Bluff yesterday and it has never been in better condition. You were correct, the greens are rolling fast and true. So much so I only made one birdie putt. They just were not taking the normal breaks with their speed, and most breaks were happening only when the putt started losing speed. Unless I didn't play a break LOL. Just didn't get my irons close enough and had about 9 birdie putts in the 10-20 foot range and could not convert. Fairways were a hair soft after all that rain, but still getting 10 yards of roll. Gonna play PB again today with this weather and those conditions.

Played Hilldale GC. What a perfect day. The course is playing firm and fast, especially the greens. Best I've putted on all year, made 5 birdies.

Went out solo today at Gleneagles.and played 39 holes in a little over 5 hours. Short my career best on the red course - a 78 with 2 birdies in a row on the par 5 10th and par 5 11th. Never did that before.

Perfect weather to boot.

Few years ago I did a solo first round of the year at Gleneagles Red.... Shot smooth 1-under 69 and thought to myself - “wow, this is going to be a great year”. Well, It was a great year, but not scoring wise - didn’t break 80 till summer ?. Red course is very gettable - except hole 17, which has to be one of the hardest holes in Chicagoland.

Chit load of Maltbys - TS2 irons, KE4 TC Driver & 4 wood, TSW 54* & 60* wedges, PTM5 Mallet putter

It's like hole 17 does not belong on the course. Got a bogey on it yesterday and was very happy..

doesn't look good for tomorrow. Was hoping to get out early afternoon, looks like rain.

Sucks cause my game finally came back in the last few weeks and now the year is over. But, at least I won't be suicidial all winter now that I'm playing well. My index went from a 10 to a 16 this summer, but now I'm back to playing like a 10 (shot a 81 last week) with no shanks anymore. Playing in a 2 man scramble with indexes next week where I'll be playing off the 16. Looking forward to finally getting rewarded for the suffering I endured watching that index rise this summer.

I hope someone accuses me of sandbagging. I'll make them sit down and listen to my entire story of misery from this summer, the long version.

The more rounds played at PB the more I enjoy it. PB could be in the top 5 in terms of greens in Chicago for a public course.

Yeah, for only the 3rd time since April 1st I think I'll be sitting out on a Saturday. Rain and 20+ mph winds look rather unappealing. Giving my rib another day to heal should help, too. I'm booked at Oak Brook GC on Sunday morning. It should be a much better day.

Played at Wynstone today in the mist, fastest green I’ve seen all year. First time there and must go back. Pretty layout and like most Nicklaus courses, you have to pick you spots wisely. If you get the chance to play there don’t pass it up
