This Saturday looks possibly playable. I'm seeing a 30% chance of showers, but if those hold off until the afternoon or are relatively light, 18 holes should definitely be in the cards. YES! The possibility of again playing at least one round in all 12 months continues for the third straight year.

Wanted to go play Sunday despite the fog. My club was open for temp greens. I was about to give my wife the "hey I'll be back in 3 hours. Gonna walk a quick 9" speech but we went to walk the dog and everything was absolutely soaked and soggy. I don't mind playing if it's chilly but when you're afraid you're going to step out of your shoe constantly, that becomes a problem.

Anyone planning on going to the Tinley Park Golf Expo?

... I could be a dick and say no courses are likely that in Orlando. I hope Tinley has all the new stuff because this years show is one of the most impressive I have been to in the last 13 years. Just a ton of awesome stuff. Tour Edge was surprising with some classic MB's that remind me of the Nike Forged Blades. Just beautiful and what you see is what you get. Their new wedges look very good to, although the LW's are very large. Lynx. Remember them? Some very impressive irons and a nice driver. Cobra stole the how for me. The F8 and F8+ is just special. Rogue is better for many with added forgiveness and a slightly larger head. And the new Wilson forged C300's were surprisingly nice.

Sanctuary, GDN, Highland Woods, Andrews, Deer Creek, Cog 1-3, Orchard Valley, Fresh Meadows and maybe Prairie Bluff should be open. A few might have temporary greens though. I got a free ticket to the Tinley Park Expo and I rarely turn down free golf stuff. The knockoffs are my favorite. Turner fairway woods and Hallaway drivers galore. Oh, and all the aluminum siding, sliding doors, and windows a man can dream of.

I need to visit Rockford from Milwaukee either Friday or Saturday. Does anyone know of anything open further west worth playing that won't have temp greens? I'm willing to go to W. Burbs, but would prefer not to go too out of the way.

Anybody know if Ledges is open? That would be your best bet. Maybe Dellbrook in Delavan, WI since that's right off 43. Again, you'd have to call and verify that they're open first. Those are definitely the types of places (don't really care about the greens, filled with patronage employees, etc.) that are most likely to be allowing players on the course.

It did, a few inches. Lake Geneva to Woodstock, IL is under snow tight now.

Normally Atwood is the only of the three county courses that will open during the winter weather. There isn't an update saying they will be open, Atwood. And the only Rockford city course that opens is Elliott and the park district hasn't made any posting about the course being open. I would doubt they open with how wet the ground is.

I played a few rounds there in December 2016, and got around in just over 2 hours each time. Of course, I had a very early tee time. I avoid the place during the rest of the year.

I played a few rounds there in December 2016, and got around in just over 2 hours each time. Of course, I had a very early tee time. I avoid the place during the rest of the year.

Yea, at the right times you can fly. Once summer comes around have to be out on the course by 9 and stay away on weekends.

Indian Boundary should seriously consider swapping the nines to improve the pace of play. The first 3 holes are simply killers for pace with bogie golfers. The 1st hole is too long, and the the hazard on the left side is like a magnet for golf balls. The 2nd hole, while short, has OB right, and junk left. The cherry on top is the short par 5 3rd, where every player thinks they can reach the green in two, backing up the tee.

By comparison, the current 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th are tame.

Lol. Actually, there are a number of decent holes on the course, but of course there are more bad holes. Holes 4 through 8 are fine, and #9 play long and tough. 'Nothing wrong with the par 5 14th and dogleg 16th. The 17th is tough par 3. 18 is OK.

I'm certainly not going to play it in peak season, but for the final few rounds of the year it's acceptable. Better than Fresh Meadows or The Meadows?

Played St. Andrews yesterday. Weird, wild stuff with the turf conditions. The first six holes, the approach shots hit the green as if it was a sprinkler head. Quite an adjustment. :lol:

It took me a while to get going at Sanctuary. I stupidly thought that some range time the last couple of weeks would be enough. Alas, hitting off a mat on a perfectly flat lie isn't exactly the same as hitting off a course. There were some wet spots and the tee boxes were very soggy but overall, the course was fine. Dead, but fine. I chipped in for birdie on 6 and parred 8 of 9 holes on the back nine. Not too bad for my first round since early December.

Next Saturday I'm seeing 34 and sunny. If it doesn't snow this week, that's playable. I'll need to remember my hammer for tees but it wouldn't be the first time I've needed to do that.

Played 9 at Marengo yesterday. It was wet, but not to the point of plugging much (Had a couple stick on the green and had one jump back off the tee.) Very playable for January. Felt good to get out there.
