Those are sweet, thanks for posting, DTown!

For anyone who knows, is there a "tour" grind coming as well? I passed on the previous Mack Daddy wedges because of the curved leading edge. The Mack Daddy 2 Tour Grind solved that issue with a straighter leading edge.
There will not be a "tour grind" since these have a semi-straight leading edge already. "The new wedge is designed with a semi- straight leading edge and a high toe profile, which while not as pronounced as the PM Grind, is slightly larger than the MD2."

Also, one thing to consider is these are CAST not FORGED like past Callaway releases.
What does that matter? Many great wedges through history have been cast. And cast vs. forged having an impact on feel is a myth that's been around for way too long.

It matters to some. Doesn't matter to me. Vokey's are cast and have been forever. Some people will care. Since all of Callaway's past releases have been forged, I think it's important to point this out.

Agreed, it doesn't matter to me, Vokeys are cast and perform as well as forged wedges. It will matter to some, though. It is worth noting for those reading the thread and trying to decide.

I've yet to find anyone locally that will bend a cast wedge. So no go for me on MD3, me thinks.
Seriously? Vokeys bend like butter. These will as well. Bending wedges isn't an issue at all especially a few degrees.

The new line debuts at the John Deere Classic on the PGA Tour this week.

The MD3 release date is Sept. 4 in both satin chrome and black finishes ($129).

I would LOVE to see an address photo which I have not seen yet myself!

Not that it needs to be hidden. I'm just saying if there's no difference in feel or performance than why should that influence the decision to buy? How is it an important consideration when it has no effect?

it does matter to some from a feel stand point. The md2 and previous cally wedges were forged from 1020 carbon steel, its to soft for casting, so right away I know that they have to go to an 8620 carbon steel. Vokey wedges are cast from 8620 and have a different feel because of it, and to some they sound more clicky than the cally wedges do. So if they are the same geometry and metal there is no difference between cast and forged, but in this case there is a metal change because the 1020 isnt hard enough to not crack after being casted.

They look great. I'm sure they'll perform. However, I have to question the move to cast. As a retailer this has been our one selling point, and really the only reason any of my members look past Vokeys. The PM has been popular but offers something different from a performance perspective.

I feel like the PM wedges already have most of this incorporated into them. They haven't been out that long either. Probably just combine them in the next iteration but there was not need to replace something that has only been out a few months.

I really like the grind of the PM, but my heart hasn't really warmed up to the head shape of that wedge. The grind adds a lot of versatility to one head alone, and it has success of course, just not sure why they are choosing not to keep it going. But there again, as you say, it may be their next "achievement" to bring back again in the next line. It can be as much about marketing and sales as anything.

http://www.golfwrx.com/312448/what-really-determines-feel-in-an-iron/

Paul Wood from Ping's R&D department sheds some light on this subject. Cast or forged, 8620 or 1020 has no impact on feel. As Paul states, the "feel" will be impacted much more by the elastic modulus of the material, not the hardness. To that point, 1020 and 8620 have almost identical values (205GPa and 190-210GPa respectively). Given that 8620 is capable of having a modulus of 190GPa vs 1020's 205GPa, one could argue cast 8620 has the potential to feel softer than forged 1020. But at that point it's really knit-picking which brings me back to my point that it really doesn't matter.

Who said they weren't going to keep producing the PM grind? The only thing I have seen in this thread is the MD3 replacing the MD2. Pretty sure the PM grind is sticking around.
