I love the look, especially the straighter leading edge! I also love how everyone is good with cast wedges now. Next thing you know the Tiger GOAT believers and the Jack GOAT believers will hug it out. It is amazing what a new wedge offering can do. Thank you Roger Cleveland and Callaway for bringing peace to the GolfWRX galaxy!

They have a very Vokey SM5 look at address, which is a good thing. If the Vokey SM5 raw's weren't just a Wedge Works thing with an inflated price, I might game them.

Wish these were being released sooner. Would love to give them a go during the peak of the season.

What's the face look like?

Milled.

They do look nice, I just don't like the LED lights in the back. Take them away and they'd look a lot better.

Knowing Roger Cleveland, they serve a purpose. He's not going to put anything on a wedge that is just for show, design wise.

My understanding is that it removes weight from the sole of the club and creates a slightly higher center of gravity for a lower, more controllable trajectory.

Correct!

I'm going to change the paint fill in mine, and get some done for my wife in metallic blue I'm sure she will like that

I'm wondering whether it might be wise to get some MD2 Tours in case these are odd. The leading edge definitely looks rounder, which I don't like.

They look pretty good to me. Like a blend of Xforged and Xtour. Pretty straight. You want a touch of radius otherwise they look weird when opened up.

That does look pretty good, DTown. I might need to wait to see them in person before getting a new set. I was hoping to have them in the bag this season.

I assume that pic is the black finish? Will we be able to soak those and make them raw?

Which grind will be most like Vokey's M, the S?

Most similar to the Vokey M would be the C-grind.

Not sure if the black finish is removable. Callaway has done it for some of their staff players but might be more of a requirement to bead blast rather than strip. Not sure until I see them in hand.

The finish is definitely more durable that the slate finish.

I got to hit them a few days ago and have a chat with Roger Cleveland about them.

They are going to make a big impact out there!

Closest to Vokey M-Grind is gonna be the MD3 S-Grind. The MD3 C-Grind is going to be more similar to the SM5 S-Grind. Then obviously MD3 W-Grind will be most similar to SM5 K-Grind.

Lots of letters flying around, but these wedges are the real deal and I can't wait to get my hands on one to try out!

Wow.. they are awful...

1. They have ruined the C grind which was on the MD2 tour grinds. Notice how Thomas Bjorn has had to grind about half of the sole off on his ones.
2. They have cast them to make more money from us shmucks.
3. They milled the face, and drilled some holes in them.. big deal.
4. Its time to stockpile MD2 Tour grinds.

Vokeys, the #1 wedge retail and on tour are cast. Must mean they are garbage!

I personally like all the new grind options. Tour Grinds were lowish bounce and not best for everyone. I'm looking forward to the W grind especially on the 60. The TG60 can get diggy right now.

+1. Pointless to buy MD3s if you already game MD2s. Callaway is taking a major step back by making them cheaper.

1. Just because Thomas Bjorn probably prefers a very specific grind does not mean they are ruined. If you look at most staffers bags so far, hardly anyone has modified grinds. Clearly TB is the exception and not the norm.

2. Someone already touched on this, but the #1 and #2 wedge companies both on tour and at retail only cast their wedges. Casting a wedge actually makes sense because the slightly harder metal will not wear out as quickly which means you'll be able to get better spin from your wedge for longer than a forged wedge. Would you say Vokey's and Clevelands are cheap and only for making money off shmucks?

3. If you look at their website there's actually a performance for those features.

4. If that particular grind is best for your game then go ahead, but not everyone benefits from that one individual grind. Why not test out 3 new grinds to see if one of them suits your game better?

More grind options are great, but I am really interested in the various grooves to manage the transition from pitching through lob wedge.

I'm still using my CAST Cleveland 588 RTGs purchased in the late 1990s, and am trying to justify the purchase of some new Callaways, but the grooves (illegal, of course, due to their age) are still in excellent shape. The "Cleveland" script on the sole of the sand wedge is nearly worn away from the sandblasting, but it still performs like a champ out of bunkers.

Finally they are releasing a 46* wedge.

I'm surprised they switched from Forged to Cast. That was a major selling point for them, even though I personally don't think it makes a difference in performance.

I agree, since I am a little of a "forged" snob, that I was surprised at the cast construction. But I highly doubt we are going to be able to tell much of a difference when in play. I will for sure be trying them out when I can!

Being that they are 8620 steel in the casting, I don't think there will be a ton of difference overall...maybe a bit around the greens but I don't think it will so much most will care.

8620 vs the 1020 the Tour Grinds were. Should be firmer but more durable. Forged snobs will care (including myself but won't deter me from purchase). Most won't notice a difference.

Manufacturers cast wedges over forged because from an economics standpoint, it allows them to offer more variety in lofts and bounce options. Compare most any company that does forged vs cast and you can clearly see that cast usually has more options than forged. Forged dies are much more costly than investment cast molds.
