I watched Dead Solid Perfect yesterday for the first time. Easy to find on the web.

It had been a while since I read the book

Very enjoyable and some great one liners. RQ was good in it
Dead Solid Perfect is genius...supposed to be based on Ray Floyd, if I recall correctly. Wish could find on DVD
Me too, but I don't believe they ever released it on DVD. By far the best golf movie in my opinion

I could easily see Quaid playing Simms.

I never got some guys fascination with Russo, not even when she was young. She looks 80 now. Go watch Nightcrawler if you doubt me.

Golf Channel has been showing Tin Cup during primetime over this Labor Day weekend. Every time I hear Jim Nance say "Roy McAvoy" I hear "Rory McIlroy". It's driving me crazy.

Every time I read these types of posts, I think to myself, "I wonder if they mean Jim Nantz..."

Also, does anybody know if Roy McAvoy is standing in the hall of fame? Is the world going to know his name?

I'd take Costner's swing over Johnson's.

The original actor they tried to cast for David Simms was Dennis Quaid. He's admitted not taking that part was one of his biggest career regrets.

It's a fun movie and one of Costner's better features (though that's not really saying much)
Not really saying much? Field of Dreams, Open Range, Dances with Wolves, Bull Durham, The Untouchables. That's a hell of a career for any actor! Costner gets too much crap for Waterworld and The Postman. Sure he's had some flops but who hasn't. Heck, as far as chick flicks go, For Love of the Game is a good rental to make the wife happy on a movie night. Guy has put out some quality stuff.

The last hole scene was filmed at my club, The Deerwood Club, in Kingwood, TX.

The hole is #4 and it's a par 4, not a par 5, as depicted in the movie. As someone mentioned before, there's a plaque in the middle of the fairway, 235 yds out, marking the exact location from which McAvoy attempted his shots. The hole is the most difficult in the course, with a Handicap of 1, and it's one tough mofo, even for good players. There's a prevailing wind coming at you, the green is well protected by a large, u-shaped water hazard up front and a bunker to the right, and it also slopes down towards the water. Definitely makes for a tough par depending on pin location and even when laying up, a bogey is the most likely result.

It's always fun to bring guests and have them try the "Tin Cup" shot and fail miserably, LOL. Many a times have I been a witness of it ;).

I always wondered about his clubs. Looked like early in the movie he was playing old musclebacks (Tourneys maybe), but when he gets to the open he's got a set of ugly cavity backs.
They were MacGregor VIPs, with leather grips, you could tell when the clubs rattled in the bag. Didn't notice that he switched clubs, be he did need a re-shaft for those VIPs.

I'd give TIN CUP 7 out of 10. There were some nice scenes - he and the guys hangin' at the range, bangin' balls late at night, eating at Waffle House, and music by The Texas Tornadoes. But, compared to BULL DURHAM, also written and directed by Ron Shelton, it was underwritten and Susan Sarandon was far superior to Russo.

Yes sir! Open range. Best modern western out there. And I know them all! Duval plays himself as always and Costner as the hero with the dark past. Just wow!

Jim Nance was a running back for the Patriots back in the days when they didn't measure the PSI of footballs. Although he once met a group of guys and said "Hello Friends." True story...that I just made up.

I remember hearing some time ago [?] that Kevin Costner did not play golf before making "Tin Cup" and that he took lessons from a teaching pro so he could look somewhat decent in the movie. I wouldn't swear to this in court though. But now, he just loves playing golf.
I've heard that also. Gary McCord also helped with the bunker shot Roy hit with the garden hoe. IIRC, he told them to bend it to basically add "bounce" to it which...worked perfectly, I guess.

I just can't get over how they stuff it with lots of golf logic early on - all that stuff about the swing and course management.....and then the last golf scene just abandons all internal logic and basic physics for dramatic effect. Also that shot over the water should only about about a 5i for him if he can hit the 7 220+.

Still, most movies in general are 90+% crap. This one is only like 60% or so. I think it's solid.

He didn't qualify, he would have been DQ'd as he was using headphones during his qualifying round.

I may be lone man out here but I do not love that movie (yet I've watched it many many times)... solely because I get totally annoyed by how stubborn and in my opinion, immature McAvoy is. JUST LAY UP MAN!! or TAKE YOUR MEDICINE-the first time. I always stop watching with about 10 mins left to go.

Caddyshack is my favorite

P.S.
Absolutely hate it when he breaks the clubs. If I were cheech, that would be end of us player-caddie forever.
