Which Accessories Identify You As A Hacker?

Recommended Posts

I use iron covers and am far from being a hack. I am a bit OCD and do not like seeing the bag chatter on my mizuno irons. Its funny because the other day I was paired up with a guy who thougt i was a hack due to me having iron covers. He wanted to play $250 a side. Needless to say this "hack" with iron covers cleaned his clock. He did not win one hole. To me iron covers are a personal preference and I like to keep my clubs as pristine as I possibly can. IJS....

You, sir, are an exception. Either that or a great hustler. $250 a side playing with a guy you just met? That's incredible, but given that anything can happen in golf, you hustled the guy and got a nearly 5000% return on your iron covers.

Does using a brand new ball retriever while wading knee deep to retrieve a putter that mysteriously flew into a alligator infested lake beside number three green count?

just asking for a friend....

It was a really good throw, except for the landing in the water part... uh, i mean thats what he told me....

Anyone who has one of those "texas wedge" chipper/putter things

You mean one of these clubs? Although I am looking for accessories, this marvelous piece of equipment suitable for the skillfully-challenged would certainly identify him as a hacker because no pro let alone low-handicapper would carry this in his bag.

I didnt hustle the guy he just assumed I wasnt good and he never asked what my handicap was. When he told me that I thought he was kidding and I had to ask him twice just to make sure. I have 4 other golfing buddies and 3 of the 4 are single digit handicaps 2, 5 and a 6 and they all use iron covers as well. As I mentioned its a personal preference and some people like to keep the things they pay good money for looking as new as possible. Especially those of us who deploy on ships and have to store them onboard and they take a beating. Dont judge a golfer by his/her iron covers. :taunt:

I'm saddened why some golfers seem to be so judgmental of others by things like what they wear, whether they have iron covers, a ball retriever, a club brush etc things to identify a "hack". I guess there is another name for people who wash their cars too or clean their personally owned guns??

I have a ball retriever because I hate to throw my hard earned money away, especially if I can see the $2-$4/ball sitting there. I have iron covers because unlike my clubs when I first started out, I have gotten better and moved to better equipment that cost more of my hard earned money and I like to take care of things and show pride in the stuff I own. They seem to last and perform better and longer than those who don't, not to mention potential resale should I decide to sell.

Rather than being judgmental of others, lets:

- Show some appreciation of others getting out and playing the challenging game we all love to play. They chose to come out while others sat at home or whatever.

- Try to lend a helping had to others, so that they can have that "great shot' that keeps them coming back and continue to evolve into better players. We all started somewhere.

Just enjoy the game!!

We are enjoying the game, but we also enjoy the lovely accessories hackers use. I just found that for the hacker who does not want his golf tubes shifting around, there are plastic tube locks to keep them in place!

Not an accessory per se. Wearing your glove from the car.

lmao. Can't tell you how many times I forget to take my glove out of my back pocket after 18. Got that friggen thing hanging out while I'm sitting at the club bar.

Same here except I drive around town with it and go into stores, get food, eat at restaurants with it. What a doofus I am.

guilty of the same!

what I've had to start doing is IMMEDIATELY placing it inside its dry pocket in the bag BEFORE I get to the 18th green. as I take it off for the last time, I have to remember that this is the last time I am taking it off... to putt on the final hole... put it in the bag, dummy... i've gotten it down to at least every other round.

I use iron covers and I am a hack... but it's because of the club chatter when I'm walking from subway/train/bus to the courses.

I do take them off when I'm playing though. It's just for transit!

i personally hate the way they look, but the two best players at my club (+2 and +1) that play in most events that we have (there are a couple of better players i.e. PGA tour pro Blayne Barber is a member and grew up on our course) use iron covers. one says that it is because when he gets ready to sell his clubs, they look better (he usually sells his equipment to one of the high school kids cheap)

I don't carry a bunch of accessories in my bag, but even i would admit that my golf cart is set up as a hackers paradise.

Golf towel on both front windshield posts

I bought a club rack for the cart because its a four seater, and it has two sand bottles, an ice chest, and a ball washer built in (i could have done without the ball washer thing, but i will admit that I use the s*** out of the club scrubber part of it)

I have my range finder mounted to the back roof post, and my FROGGER (which the brand just in itself apparently identifies me as a hack) brush mounted as well.

My cart has a 6 inch lift kit (only so i could upgrade the tires and wheels, not because we go off roading)

I also have a street legal kit with horn (a second old school "Aoohgah" horn is coming, just because that crap is funny) because we ride around the neighborhood all the time after dark

I am a decent player, but i like accessories for anything, so golf is no acception,

My reference to a GoPro is strictly tongue in cheek.

There was a member who bought one, as soon as they were available. At the range, he would record all of his friends' swings. Then, he would take it to the course to get material to trash talk his regular partners. It wasn't long before 1/2 dozen of his buddies got their own.

Thing is, years later, it's not uncommon today, to see people whipping out their phones to do exactly the same thing. :pardon:

I have a 5-6 yrs old GolfWRX magnetic divot tool. But it cost almost as much as the tool itself for shipping. Should I ever lose it, my next divot tool will be a Frogger.

hacks come in all different forms, how can you stereotype a "hack". I wish some middle aged man say something to me because of my flat bill Nike hat or matching Nike wardrobe. I'm sure after I hack one into his nuts he wouldn't be saying a word afterwards

I'd rather be quiet and be thought an imbecile, than say anything and prove it.
