I have never played with anyone wearing cargo shortson the golf course that could break 90 keeping their own score.

Ah man, I like my cargo shorts but in general I think you may have a point.

Reading through all of these I think I am going to show as a single Sunday with the following:

- Heavy White Sun Screen on my nose only

- Glasses where the lenses flip up and the frames underneath have no lenses

- Flat brimmed golf hat, tilted sideways on my head with 6 ball markers clipped to the hat

- Golf sandals over top of mid calf white socks with the stripes near the top

- Cargo Shorts (of course) with zipper down

- Untucked Hawaiian shirt with only the bottom button buttoned

- Belt that is not buckled

- 4 gloves (2 per hand) and will take off only 1 each time I reach the green

** in the colder months or early in the season I have actually worn 2 gloves per hand.

I used to carry a 25' ball retriever, pretty handy, until the bank gave way one day, and I slid up to my chest in the muck and water. Thought it was all over, a true Darwin award winner.

I gave the retriever to Goodwill (25 years ago) and never go anywhere near water.

I'm sure guys have drowned fishing for balls. I knew a guy that fell in, breaking his arm.

Man this thread is gold! I bet I could get to a single digit if I dropped my iron headcovers, clip-on towel and poker chip sized ball marker! Minus 1 stroke each and BAM I'm a 9! ;) It's funny how perception can be spot on or way off by what we see. Anyone that gets butt hurt by anything posted in this thread needs to get over it.

I do admit to using heavy neoprene iron covers. I invested in a set of Miura MB001 forged, soft carbon steel irons, and I don't want to buy another set ever. Trying to keep them pristine as long as possible.

Not an accessory but pulling out your driver to tee off on a par3 is signs of a hacker

Ohhhh don't know about that our 17th hole at my home course is about 230 from the back over the water and the wind off the ocean is always in your face. I have pulled a driver out there many times and have birdied it too!! There was a course close by called Wicked Stick that recently closed. There was a par 3 on the front side that played around 250 from the "Long John Daly Tees" My friend was pro there for a few years. One winter day it was cold and raining and we decided to really torture ourselves and play from the back. I hit a driver on that hole and he hit 3 wood and did not reach the green. I did manage to reach the green and made birdie. He said he would not tell anyone I hit a driver on that hole and made birdie. I told him no you don't want to tell them an old fat fart hit driver on that hole made birdie and took $5 off of you!!! :taunt:

Actually sadly we had that happen down here a few years ago to an older gentleman-- but the coroner determined that he actually did not drown that he had a massive heart attack and was dead before he ever hit the water. I did not know the guy personally but know some that did and one guy told me his wife summed it up "He died on the golf course doing what he loved"

True! I was posting in the moment behind a three some. Terribly slow, wouldn't let me through. It was 185 to the middle and they're hitting drivers

Red flag is anyone that has a super oversized cooler filled with beer. Two guys in a cart today used a water dispensing cooler as storage for their beers. There's many different ways enjoy golf. Getting drunk and hitting the bal side to side is how some people do it.

2nd on my list is anything topflite, Wilson, maxfli, etc branded. Including packaged sets. When someone's first starting out its hard to distinguish or justify quality clubs.

Pull carts (rented or old fashioned). Good golfers invest in a good push cart or ride.

50/50 on this next one: in my experience people that overly smoke (cigars/ cigarettes) are just out there to look cool and/or "hack" around. I just can't imagine that On top of all the equipment I'm already fiddling with (14 different clubs, ball markers, tees, divot repair, headcovers, balls, flagsticks, snacks, glove rangefinder etc,) why add one more item to juggle? Of course I don't play on a country club or with business execs and my wild guess is that this probably doesn't apply to those communities.

Sunglasses: unless they are Oakley g30 or prism lenses all the guys I've played with who wear cheap sunglasses hack the ball. Experienced players usually wear a hat.

Using a GPS stat tracker on your cell phone. You never go back to check the dang stats later and you wouldn't know how to interpret them anyway. I have a buddy who does this and it kills all conversation between holes. IT folks out there, you need to come up with a solution for us to jam these devices.

Forget the iron covers. Those little dings make the ball fly straighter and farther, with better backspin. (I could write ads for Taylormade)

I'm saddened why some golfers seem to be so judgmental of others by things like what they wear, whether they have iron covers, a ball retriever, a club brush etc things to identify a "hack". I guess there is another name for people who wash their cars too or clean their personally owned guns??

I have a ball retriever because I hate to throw my hard earned money away, especially if I can see the $2-$4/ball sitting there. I have iron covers because unlike my clubs when I first started out, I have gotten better and moved to better equipment that cost more of my hard earned money and I like to take care of things and show pride in the stuff I own. They seem to last and perform better and longer than those who don't, not to mention potential resale should I decide to sell.

Rather than being judgmental of others, lets:

- Show some appreciation of others getting out and playing the challenging game we all love to play. They chose to come out while others sat at home or whatever.

- Try to lend a helping had to others, so that they can have that "great shot' that keeps them coming back and continue to evolve into better players. We all started somewhere.

Just enjoy the game!!

You cheap azz. I played behind you last week in that 5 hour round while you fished for golf balls on at least 6 occasions. Sell the ball retriever and take a lesson.

hacks come in all different forms, how can you stereotype a "hack". I wish some middle aged man say something to me because of my flat bill Nike hat or matching Nike wardrobe. I'm sure after I hack one into his nuts he wouldn't be saying a word afterwards

Geez, you're pretty cool. I want to be just like you.

Alright, I think I'm all caught up...
