Thrift Store Jackpot

Some sweet grips there too!

I love the grips and they are practically new. $22 out the door ready to play with an extra 8 iron. I like the look of the “‘85 Tour Blade” better but the sole is too think. I gamed a set for awhile that I just couldn’t make work. I am hoping the thinner soles on the 88’ model works better for me.

Well, I play the store variety of Wilson and have no complaints. Found a few staffs, but no irons yet...

I see a Ram PW. What are the Wilsons? I can't make out the model name.

My experience with Wilson store models has been mixed at best. Had a set of Super Powers a few years back that were very solid but overall the store models I've had were pretty crappy compared to Staffs.

I believe store models are a complete crap shoot with Wilsons. If you get an iron that's not way off spec with a decent shaft in it they can be fine. However, specs tended to be all over the place and most store model clubs got pretty crappy shafts.

All Forged, all the time.
The Sets that see regular playing time...
67 Spalding Top-Flite Professional, Cleveland Classic Persimmon Driver, 3 & 4 Spalding Top-Flite Persimmon Woods, TPM Putter.
71 Wilson Staff Button Backs, Wilson System 3000 Persimmon Driver, 3 & 5 Woods, Wilson Sam Snead Pay-Off Putter.
95 Snake Eyes S&W Forged, Snake Eyes 600T Driver, Viper MS 18* & 21* Woods, 252 & 258 Vokeys, Golfsmith Zero Friction Putter.
2015 Wilson Staff FG Tour F5, TaylorMade Superfast Driver, 16.5* Fairway, & 21* Hybrid, Harmonized SW & LW, Tour Edge Feel2 Putter.

The Ram PW is a Gene Littler. Wish I could find the rest of the set. I have seen them online, but nothing locally.

The Wilsons are K-28s. They were the first forged blades that I obtained from the thrift store.

A whole mess of clubs at my favorite GW. There is decent stuff I left behind here. I grabbed the Goosenecks (with S100 shafts, which I don't know if I've ever even seen before) a Never Comp is mint condition and that TM I was talking about.

Joe-

A great set.

Wilson even made a few LH Gooseneck irons, with the Staff and "W/S" shield.

Quite rare.

I just stopped in to Savers (I have to remind myself to get in there once in a while) yesterday and there was (I believe) a set of 855s and 845s. Also a busted (5,6,7,8) set of Cobra Lady irons. A TM bag - an old Wilson bag.

I played 845s for 10 years.

Nice PY. Have gone through two sets of FG-17's. Find them, buy them, play them, can't hit them, sell 'em. It's what we do. Now have other Wilson Staffs irons to futz with.

Anyhow. Have a Wilson Staff Tour Blade PW. The model immediately preceding the 17's. Pretty good condition, crappy grip. Can't determine the flex as the shape band is sufficiently worn. Feels stiffish. Yours for the cost of shipping (assuming you're here in the States) from me to you. Until you find a FG-17 fill. PM if interested.

Edit: (That didn't sound right.)

LOL. It only sounds right in the context of golf clubs. I won’t be playing these. They cleaned up great but the shafts won’t do for me and I tried these a few years back without much success. Thank you so much for the offer but I am going to sell these to fund this hobby/obsession. I have a rather pricey 2003 Hogan Apex 9 Iron I need to raise money for.

I remember years ago 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and some of the 90s, when Wilson Staff set the bar. If you used WS you were considered a player. Unfortunately, beginning with the introduction of Titanium and younger competition they did not move with the times. They still make good irons but have never captured the eye of a newer generation.

Here’s the pic. Would like better condition but it’s playable. What a day

There's some GCD (I think they're called) Hogan Edges at my closest GW.

I've seen them before. What I'm shocked at is how amazing the factory grips are. They are so fresh and rubbery - I almost am more enamored with old, pullable/sellable grips on clubs these days than I even am on the clubs themselves.

These old Hogan grips are like Cords of some sort...I am almost certain I could pull the lot with my Golfsmith tool. I just don't have the time for them right now nor do I know how much I could flip them for.

Tour Stage Z101 irons. 2 through PW but the 7 iron was not there. Grabbed an old Taylormade bag yesterday and some Ecco shoes that looks like they hadn't been worn more than a couple times.
