They were the cleanest and happiest people you ever met, he was telling us he had some electricity because he learned how to tap into the main line running though the village which was at least 1,000 shacks all about the same. No windows and a tarp for a door.

When I got home my son (who was maybe 8-9 years old) met me at the door complaining about his room not being big enough for his stuff. I showed him the pictures and told him how lucky he was to be born in the U.S. with parents that love him and would die providing for him, to this day he never complains about anything and see's the good in places I miss. (he is a cop so he see's a lot of crap)

 

I remember on my vacations to Mexico while walking down the streets in the morning, in search of a cup of coffee, the women outside sweeping their colorful patios.  I loved that attention to detail, the ritual of it and the tidiness.

 

Now I have my own Mexican patio and you can find me sweeping it almost every morning.

Had to dial it back as I've gotten older - not because I can't eat it but because dang, it does a number on the innards the next day. 

 

Like 20 years back - a company I was working for would go all out for Halloween and one year there was a chili cook-off. I'm not a HUGE chili fan (love it on a hot dog, of course but just a bowl of it? Meh) but considering myself an amateur chef, I was bound to win it. Really just switched out the seasoning of my basic bolognese. Not really knowing if it was GOOD enough as far as chili goes, I decided to make sure they'd at least remember me and broke out my cache of insane hot sauces. Kept dosing it till it got too hot for ME and was like "Perfect."

 

Got to work the next day, sat the crock pot on the counter in the cafeteria area and went and printed out Blackbeard's "Queen Anne's Revenge" flag:

 

 

And taped it to the crockpot. 😂

 

Everyone tried it but exactly three out of maybe 75 people got through a whole bowl of it. And I, of course, did not win. But I bet a lot of people remembered me the next morning 😂

Lol bet it was a full house in the mens room later that day. Reminds me of when my office was in NJ, huge complex, not too far from Philly. The Monday after Super Bowl Sunday when the Eagles won, you couldn’t get into any mens room in the building for love or money. Packed all day.

I had to go from Kingston to Montego Bay and it was raining like the end of the world, that narrow pass near Ocho rios between solid rock walls was a raging river and not at all fun to drive (float)  down...

Provalone, l&t, mayo, salt and pepper, and roasted peppers!

 

The key is to get on hero bread so bread is robust enough to soak it and still have a little crust! 
 

Got some sun then capped the day with this peanut butter, chocolate marshmallow pie, espressos and sambuca 😳🤗

🤣 Hey I’m actually very proud, this nice young guy, works a food market near us, he was 400 pounds for real!

 

So, got to talking to him, he said he wanted to lose weight but was having trouble.

 

I told him at 400lbs he was eating 5000 calories a day if he was maintaining at that level. 

 

I I told him he could eat 3300 calories a day, still a lot of food, and I guaranteed he’d lose at least 7 pounds a month and drop like 100lbs in a year and not be hungry. But he had to count all his calories and really make his own food and get a food scale. 
 

So, this was in December. I see him the other day and I’m like, “hey, looks like you sucked some weight”

 

Hes like, “I dropped 45lbs” 

 

Then he tells me he’s got a food scale, an app to count calories, and he’s walking 10,000 steps a day.

Was home for Christmas one year and was sitting at the kitchen table watching it on my iPad because the grandkids were watching whatever dumb kids watch in the living room. My 75 y/o mom comes over and is all "Oh! I really like that movie."
