Amen on the PRIME Jim! It’s why I’m smoking a ridiculously large brisket. The only PRIME briskets at Costco were 20 lbs +. I’m not wasting my time/energy with choice beef. Bonus with having a good amount of the leftover brisket… Brisket chili! 🤤

So very true.  It is hard for someone who is highly outcome-focused.  After all, the outcome you want is the delicious sound of the ball hitting the bottom of the cup.

 

Some time ago I had some success coaching myself up on this topic.  I'm not going to change being outcome-focused, but you can trick your brain into focusing on a different outcome, and it made me a much better putter.  Rather than whether the ball went in the hole (or not), I focused almost exclusively on making good contact.

 

If you make consistent, repeatable, good contact, that means you have to have a reliable stroke, setup, and mechanics.  So, I set to work on using balls with a line around the equator.  I don't like doing this during play because it always took me too long to make sure the line was lined up at the target AND is perpendicular to the putting surface.  I can do this in a practice session, but not during play.  Lots of time on a practice green getting that ball to roll with no wobble in the line.  No wobble means true roll, true roll means pure impact, and pure impact means solid mechanics.  I divorced my mind from worrying about if the ball went in.  Some did, some didn't.  But over time, this focus on putter contact made me a much better putter and got my index to an all-time low, before chilluns came along and priorities changed.  🙂  

 

Now that I'm an adaptive golfer I am still a good putter.  It's the one part of my game that's had minimal regression....good thing, since adaptive chipping, pitching, wedges, and full swings means you dang sure better be able to putt.  This spring if I join a club (that's the idea), any practice time I put in will be on putting and short game.

I have made up my home style of chili and It is beginning to smell so good. I use ground turkey and like to let it simmer in the slow cooker for two or three hours. I am now ready for a steady diet of football.

 

I tried watching the golf on the tube and it bored me to tears. Bomb, gouge and putt and lousy commentary. Wake me up for the Masters.

 

I hope the first football game is a good game and I really don’t care who wins. The second game is another story. I am a lifetime Packers fan but don’t know if they can handle the 49ers.

No internet, smart phones, TikTok, InstaGram, YouTube, video games.

 

Three TV channels, plus maybe one UHF channel. We read books, had conversations, played board games, ate dinners not nuked in microwaves and not filled with chemicals, drank clean water from the faucet, rode bicycles without helmets, played sports with other kids.

 

Seeing someone obese was a shock, it was so rare.

 

This is not some fanciful memory with a bias to remembering only the good. Skilled workers in factories and the service industries could buy a house and live a good life and support a family well.

 

Sure, the Internet changed the world with incredible information at our fingertips without heading to the library.

 

But, on balance, the rest is all crap now.

 

Except for meat and potatoes and martinis.

He was telling me that the last time Beyoncé played at Levi’s Stadium they sold tickets for an area in the parking lot with the only view of the concert being on a video screen. But you could hear it. Price you may ask, $250+! And it sold out 🤪

Get your point but no thanks. In most parts of the country my family would be……not so welcome at best. I’ll stop there so as not to run afoul of forum rules.

 

On second thought, had I been a kid in the 50s I would not have lived long enough for the above point to even be an issue. So…..nah, I’m good now.

Speaking of brisket.................Cobi is addicted to eating Reubens. She makes herself one

a few times a week. She doesn't make them on rye though. She likes Dave's green label

bread. I have to make regular trips to the deli to get her sliced corned beef.

 

I don't eat them though as I don't like 1000 Island or sauerkraut. 

 

Her and I have such different tastes in food that most of the time we just keep all the

foods we like on hand and just fend for ourselves. Maybe once a month we'll eat

something together we both like.
