I'm a believer. Ordinary condensation vapor trails. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm no atmospheric scientist but I have observed that some days you see them and some you don't. I'm betting it's the different conditions of humidity and temperature.

Some of those aircraft engines are running on water. They switch to water after they get up to altitude. Thats how they make so much money.

 

I knew a guy who had a cousin in Arkansas who built a car engine like that and only water vapor came out of the tailpipe. He got 200 miles from a 24 pack of Costco water.

 

He never heard from him again and they took the engine.

I'm always amused by the space alien conspiracy theories. Apparently these aliens are smart

enough to have solved the time/space problem and have arrived here from planets that are

light years distant from us yet dumb enough to crash in Roswell, NM and die.

 

Traveling at the speed of light, all our radio and TV broadcasts, toward distant aliens, just

waiting to take it all in so they can marvel at we earthlings. Yet, we have not yet received a

single broadcast from space. Nothing but background radiation. 

 

In the meantime, episodes of I love Lucy and the Honeymooners are being watched on distant

planets. Imagine what the beings on those planets must think of Fred and Ethel. Did you know

HG Wells, himself, appeared in an episode of I Love Lucy?

About the same for us. I did manage to play 18 on the Par3 Saturday in a fun experimental round. Does not look good for me as far as League play this week. We start at 7:30 AM and all the temps this week start well below the 50* temps I set for myself. It rained last night and it is raining now so I do not know about today either. I love golf as much as the next man but I am not willing to hurt and be stiff for 2 days afterward. If it warms up doing the day I may play some if I can get on the course if not I will practice some

They were building cars that ran on water 100+ years ago.  Laying out vapor trails.  A feature that could be useful when encountering tailgaters.....Fog 'em.

Technically yes. They were steam power. Now in WW2 the Germans came up with alcohol & water vapor injection for their piston engine aircraft. A small amount of a water alcohol was injected at high speed into the combustion chamber. I would violently combust adding power. The alcohol was only used to prevent freezing at high altitudes. It can help racing too. Had a car one night pick up power all of a sudden and no I was not running NOX or a funky fuel mix. I noticed after like 5 laps of this it was running hot and I shut it down and pulled in. I was talking about it later on that night up at Mr. Waffle (local after the race hangout). My mentor who knew his stuff told me bet $100 it would not crank in the AM after it cooled down. He told me not to crank it and to check the oil and radiator the next morning. I did check the next morning and the radiator was dry and the oil had traces of condensation in it. By then he had came over and told me to pull the head that I had cracks in the combustion chamber. Sure enough he was correct. He told me as thin as we cut the heads in the CC area it would happen. He told me about the Germans and the vapor injection in WW2. He was an aircraft mechanic himself in WW2 and knew about it. Of course with me I had to experiment. Those heads stock had a power valve as they called them for street use for emissions purpose. Usually we welded those ports up. Of course I had to try. I pulled a stock head off a junker in the back yard and tried to adapt it using a hand pump. I ended up diluting the oil and wiping a set of bearings.

Ok, NOW I'm done spending on golf stuff for quite a while. I bought a MGI Navigator Quad electric trolley, cart, buggy, whatever you want to call it yesterday. I love walking but the 3 main courses I play are hilly as hell so I figured I'd try one. The way I look at it it's a way to enjoy my golf and get some exercise too.

Congrats.  Went had a look at one, pretty slick.  Seems the way to go for hilly courses.  My push trolley becomes wearisome late in a round on a hilly course I occasionally play solo.  The worst of the hills are on the second 9.  A long, uphill slog on the par 5 16th does me in.   My geezer legs become jellyified.  

 

The I'm done spending "for quite a while" is a rather nebulous and indeterminate phrase.  How long is quite awhile?  Non-specific is prudent though, to CYA when something else golf stuff shows up.

I play a lot of golf by myself because that's how I practice. Going out in the summer at 6 o'clock and playing 9-18 holes with very few people playing is a little slice of heaven. Walking makes it that much better. In my case quite a while means at least a month.🤣 That will have to change after the first of the year.

Much the same.  Come to really enjoy my solo outings, how I practice golf as well. The solitude, not having to be conversational, simply try to execute a quality golf shot.  And if I don't, drop a ball and repeat.  I become bored quickly with range time practice.  Think I only went once this past season.

Interesting. I’m just the opposite. I get bored on a solo outing and usually find a group to join. But I can hit into my net or at the range for hours. Might be a commitment thing, as I can walk away from practice or take a break, but feel committed to finish a round. My playing partners are out until the end of the week, so I may give the solo round another go. My solo course is an inexpensive, wide open, muni that invites experimentation.

On course practice is the best IMO. Hit from a variety of lies, try out different ways to play a

hole, etc., etc. Awesome when you essentially have a course to yourself and can do it.

 

Back around 2005-2008 a good bud drove my truck with me and we played a lot of golf on

the road. Now and then, we would encounter a course that we pretty much had to ourselves

and when we did we would turn it into a practice round.

 

We would drop balls in various places and see who could hit it closest to the pin, etc., etc.

Practice is more fun, at least for me, when a little competition is introduced....and it really

sharpens up your game.

 

I've tried doing it solo and it just doesn't work for me. I get lazy and unfocused and end

up just playing one ball and often don't even putt out. OTOH, I can go to the range solo

and enjoy hitting balls; probably because I don't have to go chase them all down, lol.

 

I'm, admittedly, very much a social golfer. My hat's off to you guys that love the game

so much that you enjoy the solo rounds, walking and communing with nature and the

early morning dew. It always sounds good to me until I go try it.

 

Put me in a riding cart, add in golf buds, and give me a 10-11 AM tee time and I'm happy.😃

Playing several balls is fun up to a point.  Until I start spraying them around (loss of focus?) and have to chase them down all over the place.  That's a pain.  Where did I hit that first one again?

Come to think of it.  The solo golf thing got started in earnest when I stumbled into WRX and discovered classic clubs.  Was fearful of being laughed at by the buds attempting to play wood and blade.  "You're pitiful, what the heck are you doing?"  Had to take my attempts private to avoid ridicule and embarrassment.    

 

Still have self-consciousness exposing my golf game to strangers.  Don't quite know why, just do.  If there was ever to be a Grille Shootout, I'd be a basket case.  Trying to hit golf balls around y'all with a minimal measure of proficiency?   Can't even imagine.  I'd need numerous beers to settle down before the first tee.  Might get it together by the 14th hole.  Or no longer give a shizzle.

When I was overseas waiting for the statute of limitations to expire (I’m kidding, I’m kidding), could never play solo golf. No showing up and hoping to play either. You needed a reservation, a group, or no golf for you.

 

They would never put you with a threesome because they didn’t know you. It would upset the apple cart and what if you didn’t get along with them?

 

A Pete Dye course near me knew me. I had the course record there in 1995(?) and helped them with an international tournament they held once. They called a member and asked him if he would drive out and play with the foreigner the next day, and he did.

 

He was a doctor who had been club champion several times and we had a fun round.

 

I played enough solo rounds in my wasted youth, so playing with others is my preference. No open courses here, so waiting every shot as a single is drudgery.

 

A pristine range with good balls is one of my favorite places to be.

As for these aliens being to smart not to crash. Some would say humans are fairly advanced and have accomplished some fairly impressive feats. Yet still always gonna be that person dumb enough to be fumbling w/their phone or radio and hit the car in front of ‘em on the interstate. Maybe the aliens that crashed were just teen aliens that snuck out the family saucer and had a few too many pops! 👽🍻🤷🏼‍♂️

some spacecraft and going on a joyride to earth. I think there was a TV series based on that

idea called................."Roswell"........what???????????????

 

It was a lousy TV show though and, I think, got cancelled. They should have contacted @Soloman1
