I don't know if anything actually came out and we all assumed this given the similarities in the 'technology' of the slots (tho I'm sure we all accept it as the likely reason). Even if Adams had a case, could they then afford to challenge TM in court?

There is always enough money to challenge another company for IP infringement in court. That is why all public companies have legal teams, for this exact scenario. The potential payouts are so massive that the investment in legal fees is more than worth it. Especially if a company is struggling since there is nothing for them to lose. What better way to infuse capital back into your company than to win a massive law suit against a company as big as Adidas/TMaG?

If it had ever been brought to court, there is no question that TMaG would've come to Adams with a substantial settlement at the very least. Its not worth the potential losses on their end to let it play out in court where they are no longer in control of the outcome.

really quickly, IP attorneys are EASILY one of the three most expensive litigators imagined. It should not be far fetched to believe Adams wouldnt have the wallet to take TM to court, even if they were in the right...

^^ This..

TM bought Adams technology by buying the company. Adams shareholders were probably happy to have an out as it was with the state of the company.

I know we are on a golf forum here, but it's pretty cut and dry when taking the business world into account. This stuff happens allll the time.

As I posted before, the best we can hope is that TM kept some people around, and that it wasn't as malicious as stealing some tech from a company they knew couldn't defend itself.

Adams wasn't a thriving brand that got taken over by corporate monster. Tmag didn't happen to adams. Adams happened to Adams. They didn't have to sell..... and I think that's a point people are missing. TM didn't buy them to take on water, and it would've been harder to revive them to the younger golfing community than it would've been to release an entire new brand because there was already a stigma attached to it as old guy clubs.

Most of us on here know more about equipment than the average joe, and most of us know that adams had some legit clubs. However, that fact is irrelevant because Adams did nothing to attract the general golfing population.

The proof is in the pudding in the success of the companies at the time of the tech "scandal"

Nobody was walking into GG saying "I want the new tightlies that I saw Tom Watson (or whoever was playing adams at the time) hitting on t.v."

They walked into GG saying "I want the RBZ that DJ hit 300 off the tee!".

And they were the same fricken club!! IMO the tightlies was better! Adams business model was, if anything, too honest. No distance claims, no hocus pokus, if you wanted a good clubs, you bought them, but advertising is about appealing to the shallow brained thought process of the average buyer. You have to make them want to play your clubs, and if you do that, people will buy it no matter how it actually performs.

My XTD hybrid trade in value is 11$ lol not even worth a box of Pinnacles.

And its an awesome club. Maybe PGA Value guide is doing all adams owners a favor by not taking their adams clubs away.. lol.

"Adams Golf" the company that designed, manufactured and sold golf clubs went away like 90% of the outfits that design, manufacture and sell golf clubs. Too many companies, too much product, too little market share to go around and the big behemoths carve out their patch.

"Adams Golf" the brand was bought by Taylormade to use or not as they see fit. Which is what tends to happen to defunct club manufacturers if they had been around long enough to have widespread name recognition.

I've never been clear on whether Adams sold a lot of hybrids (compared to TM, Callaway, etc.) or whether the stores like Golfsmith just stocked a lot of them that never sold. But back when they were in business it always seemed that 1/3 of the hybrids in stock on any given day were one or the other Adams. And the demo/clearance bins were often literally overflowing with previous model Adams hybrids.

Some fairways and driver, not so much iron but my god the hybrids. Were they ever that popular or did the Big Box stores just get a deal on them and keep the racks stuff with Adams hybrids?

The only good news in their impending demise is their stuff is still really solid equipment and it can be had CHEAP! I just got a set of Adams Blue irons 5- GW in graphite for $199 with free shipping from Rockbottom Golf (new in plastic). Got 2 new Blue blue hybrids for $80. Got a Blue driver for $69. eBay and many internet sellers have new Adams gear for low pricing. Grab it up while it's available!

With Tom Watson now doing ads for the Chrome Soft, I assume he is now a Callaway guy? His ads were some of the most profound centered on Adams. Thought the Adams guys all went TM. Guess not....
