this weather just wants to hang on for dear life... was hoping courses were gonna start popping open this weekend in prep for 4/1... but looking less and less likely and at this point why open for a single additional weekend if its just gonna hurt the growth

ugh

not sure where you live, but sanctuary Lake golf is always open if you're willing to golf. I played there about 3 weeks ago when we had that warm snap they had three temporary greens, but I'm still playing golf.

I played the back 9 at Katke today and wow was it playing tough. Alot of it was my own fault for sucking, but it was def playing long and 16 was the only hole that was downwind. I had the craziest round: double on #10, bogey on 11, double on 12 and 13, bogey on 14, then par on 15, birdies on 16 and 17, and par on 18. Just a boring little 42 in tough conditions :)

Twin Lakes is probably one of the windiest courses around too! That and Blackheath. Both wide open!

I got out to the Orchards yesterday as well. Yes, BRUTAL wind. But finally got my "Golf IQ" going for the season on the back 9, and shot 43-36. I've been clueless on club selection and feel, then something finally clicked!

We've got a 2:30 @ twin lakes today. Hopefully the rain will hold off.

Unfortunately my buddy Hoppslam who I play most of my golf at OU with, hurt his back so I probably won't make it back out to sharf/katke until he's back in action. I should probably try to find more guys to golf with out there.

Feel free to invite me as a guest now that I'm not a member there ;-)

I still played there about 10 times last year!

BTw, I always just showed up and joined a group. Really common to do on Katke.

I've done that before...occasionally you meet some cool people. It seems like most of the guys out there are retired and play at odd times that don't work for my schedule. I have a standing tee time with a different buddy on Friday's at Sharf. He's terribly slow though!

hit up Moose Ridge today... wasnt able to get out there last season for a round. forgot just how good of a track it is, really challenges you tee to green. the variety of the holes is top notch. there are short, mid and long length holes of every par

started the round +7 through the first 5 holes with 3 lost tee balls... played the last 13 in -1... thats just golf lol

After a couple people bailed on me today I switched to devil's ridge because the last remaining buddy and I had free passes from an outing we won there last year.

What a weird round of golf. Every hole I hit a bad tee shot on I made some miraculous chip or putt to make par or birdie. Every hole I hit a great tee shot on I somehow settled for par or bogey. Oh well, as far as I know we've only had five days over 50º here in 2018 and I've played at least nine on all of them. I'm up to 230 holes so far in 2018 (I've been fortunate to have visited CA, AZ and FL for most of my rounds).

I played Lyon Oaks last week. It has been a while since I actually got a bit of bounce/roll in the fairway, in SE Michigan. It was a pleasant surprise and made, what is for me a decently long course, play a bit easier. The delayed Spring and copious precipitation has not been good for my game. It seems odd playing in May and essentially having no leaves on the trees. They are just starting to unfurl here in Ann Arbor.

How was the condition of the greens at Lyon Oaks? I love the track, but last year the condition sucked.

BTW, played Shepherd's today and the green are probably the best I've ever seen them. They had really struggled a few year ago, always seems a bit bare, but they were top notch for early may.

Curious about Lyon Oaks too, as I'm playing there for the first time after two weather cancellations. Played Moose Ridge twice this year and the greens are in fine condition and quick. They have a little bit of work to do on the fairways and rough, but overall Moose is not too bad for this early in the season.

Last year at Lyon Oaks there was a plague of unrepaired pitch marks.

For what it is worth, I thought the greens at Lyon Oaks were fine, but a bit slow and fairly firm (as in hard to make a dent). All the rain probably fixed that.

Played Pierce Lake (Chelsea) on May 10. It was in very nice shape, tee to green. I have always liked the layout with the varied terrain. Interesting how the hole locations can drastically vary the difficulty. It was pin position #3 for my play and other than #18 (way back right) the positions were not too daunting.

Thanks for the Lyon Oaks update. I'm starting to think my chances of playing there are cursed, as it looks like Monday might rain out!

I played with some crafty older guys from Windsor on Thursday and we were talking favorite courses and they mentioned Pierce Lake. They claimed it was a great value and they use one of those discount golf books for a lot of their Detroit area rounds. I had never heard of it, but I might have to make the drive from Royal Oak this summer and give it a try.

Swiz-

Been by Klavons twice...

Couldn't get in the door, the wait was so long.

I live in Ann Arbor, only stop in when I’m playing out there which is usually weekdays. I’ve been dying for someone to open something like that near me, our local sports bar is a hole in the wall. Every meal I’ve had there was fantastic, good decor in the bar, bright, tons of TVs. Huge menu.

I finally broke out of my league slump today with a 37...not super impressive but it included a bad luck triple on a par 3 where my tee shot that missed the green by two yards. I did manage to win $100 on the next par 3 due to a c/o CTP. And I shot 34 in pre-league so overall a great day!
