Give me some iblade reviews

Long irons are the easiest "players" irons I have ever hit, although to be honest I wouldn't particularly class them as a true players iron, as there's a lot of help build in to the heads.

This is one of my biggest takeaways as well. I had previously owned 712 CB (3-6) and MB (7-P). The 3, 4, and 5 irons in iBlade are so far beyond a straight up CB in playability that it's laughable. Good stuff. And I agree...I have a hard time calling iBlade a Players' Iron as well (but I'd say the same about AP2, Apex Pro 16, King Forged Tour, etc...).

In all honesty, I do have to say I miss a more traditional "players' iron". I made the comparison with a buddy recently when he asked if I was still loving iBlade. I shrugged and he looked at me like I was crazy. He asked, "What don't you like?!" I said that I felt like a guy who used to drive a fun little two-door sporty type car and traded it in to drive a four door sedan with better gas mileage and safety rating. He told me I was an idiot.

But that's just it...I think a lot of people resist iBlade (and the other irons I mentioned) because they feel like they don't need or want the help of something more playable. They cringe at the idea of not playing a muscle back or slight cavity back because it hurts the old ego to gear down and play something that will help a bit (I'm ABSOLUTELY one of these people...not casting stones).

As a fitter, I also see a lot of players insist on blades or players' cavity irons because they already hook it and and don't want any more offset and they hit it WAY too high. Then they hit in the simulator and it's obvious that the reason they hit it high and left is because the release early...but most people think "tour guys play little offset and high CoG stuff to avoid the hook and having the ball balloon."

If you can't tell, this topic interests me greatly :)

The people who cringe at the thought of playing iBlades rather than a true muscle back are a strange breed. Almost certainly Tour bag w***ers, who are more interested in bag aesthetics than performance that might actually aid their game. . If it performs it doesn't matter what it looks like!

My peak height was about 105 with the 7i. My fitter said it was a little high but nothing to worry about. He usually see around 100' and considered 105 to be average. My spin rates were fantastic. And again my draw was a baby draw and CONSISTENCY was beyond belief for me. I am a mid capper but consider myself a decent ball striker. Drives into trees and a bad chip doesn't help my cause. But the fact that after about 15 warm up shots and another 10 with the iblade when comparing, I think my dispersion was about 4 yards in an even circle. I am beyond happy. And can not wait for the golf season to start here in the North East.

I can think of a thread you should most definitely go into for the japery ;)

Anyways after initially balking at the iblades, as I'm happy with my S55s, Fly Z Pros, and z745s... wouldn't you know I decided to take a look on the bay after reading this thread.

I now have iblade heads on their way to me in the next few days. Thanks everyone! :)

Good luck with them. I ordered mine today. Let us know how you make out.

I've been playing mine for 10 rounds now and I am very happy with em. Can execute knock down, shape left-right, right left, and gives me enough feedback on aweful swings. Can't see these out of my bag for a while. Although, I do play with my Srixon 565/765 intermittently, iblades will be the main irons I play with this year.

How do you find the i95R in the iBlades compare to the i95s in the Srixons?

I am debating what to shaft my heads up with, when they arrive. I have some i25s with i95Rs as a donor set, while I have some 87i Speeder Pro stiff shafts in my z745s.

I hit my 7 iron 165 and I like the feel of R more than stiff. Distance, trajectory, and dispersion no difference.

Thanks for the response :)

Do you know what swing weight they managed to get them too? I got the i25s off eBay and they just seem quite light. I know the Steelfibers are lighter to begin with, than say a 110g steel shaft, but I am thinking I will shaft up one iBlade with the i95s and see how I like it.

I got mine directly from Ping and I requested the swingweight to be D2 to D3. I haven't checked the swingweight myself to confirm but with prior experience, I think Ping's clubmaking is usually reliable.

If there's one company that I would trust to build clubs to a certain swingweight, it's PING...and engineering company that makes golf clubs. :)

Well for what it's worth I've owned three sets of Ping irons. My G20 set and my G30 set (each bought new from local brick-and-mortar dealers) each had one club that was off in SW by 2-4 points. With the G20's the U wedge was 4 points too light and with the G30's it was either 8-iron or 9-iron was about 2.5 points light.

My third set was my current G irons, bought used. The entire set ranges from dead on the published spec for SW to 1.5 points lighter. I'd consider that well within normal tolerances but it seems typical of Ping to always err on the side of lower-than-spec swingweights when they do make an error. My various Ping drivers and fairways often seem a point or two lighter than spec and I've never seen one heavier.

P.S. It's possible that my swingweight scale tends to read low but I've checked it twice over the years against the scales in a Golfsmith repair department and against the measurements of a local independent club fitter/builder. It always matches those scales.

Would the iblades b much more demanding than 716 ap2's? Courses finally start to open up & had plans to get out this weekend but it had start snowing again last night in time to wreck the long weekend

Iblades are basically pings version of the ap2. Just look better and feel better then ap2's

Not sure I buy that. i200s are the AP2 equivalent IMHO.

iBlades would fit in between the 716CB and 716MB.

I think iBlade is comparable but slightly more playable/forgiving than 716CB. For one, the face is way thinner on iBlade, so mishits don't get sapped for distance as much as a solid forged CB. Additionally, the Activated Elastomer in iBlade makes the club feel (mostly sound) as good (better to me) than a forged CB. Vibrations are dampened with the Elastomer as well, so hitting it a little low on the face doesn't feel god awful.

I'd say that iBlade is closer to AP2 than 716CB, though. Technologically, very similar clubs. I personally liked iBlades looks and feel better than AP2 when I made my decision.

Shot a 39 yesterday in my league. Pretty sure that's my best ever. There is a very hard par 5 that snakes for about 300+ yards then has a hard left dogleg for a 120 yards shot to the green. Then entire hole is very very tight surrounded by woods on both sides. I played 8i with a fade, and then an 8i with a draw to the turn. Was so easy and exactly how I wanted to play it. A also played a 135 yrd par 3 that I caught my glide 2.0 50* slightly off the bottom and it still landed and stuck the green.

Couldn't be happier with this investment. Already love them

They can launch pretty high depending on the shaft you pair with them. I had mine bent one degree strong. And they have been easy for me to flight down if needed.

I think they are as easy to hit a "players" iron as you will find. Don't really feel the same as a forged iron, but they do have an awesome feel to them.

They have been very accurate and consistent so far.

Not sure what all the comments are about launching high. My only thought is people fit with the Modus 105 or stock AWT (also a Modus made shaft..so I've heard)?? Those options were higher launching and higher spin when I have tried them, for me.

I made the move from an i20 with x100 shafts to iblade with Project X 6.5 and haven't noticed any issues. They do as I ask so far and go high, low, left, right (sometimes when I don't ask too). ;). Love the control so far and can't come up with any real/felt forgiveness difference from the i20. There is a different sole and different turf interaction than my i20s but something I think is a good difference.

Good luck to anyone making the change and play well.

I'm currently looking at/testing the iblades and I just wanted to echo the previous posters thoughts....

I generally hit the ball high (I think due to an earlier release, not the club's/shafts I'm playing) but the iblades with nippon modus tour 120 stiff (my preferred iron shaft) had such a lovely penetrating not too high flight.

Ok it's been a little while and I now have a few rounds under my belt,

1) still Wow!!! People say blades are supposed to be hard to hit. (I'm a mid capper keep in mind) and these are awesome. Feel so soft on Good strikes, and I know this is weird but I feel these are just as easy if not easier than my old GI clubs.

2) bad strikes- I have hit about 3 shots off the bottom (a little thin) and as much as I thought oh sh!t, still stuck the geeen on all three shots.

3) so far I've had only 1 shot into the win that I ballooned up a little bit and fell about 3 yards short of target and due to the wind just left of the green

In the same round a par 3 plays in the same direction (156 yards) and I was able to keep my 8i low and penetrating through that wind onto the green past the flag. (Actually probably should have played a 9)

Yardages: even though these are 3 1/2* weaker lofts I am still getting the same distances now in most clubs as my old set. My pw has been short on me 2x but I think that was more me than the club. At most I'm only like 3 yards shorter than my old original orange cobra amps.

Summary: MAN I LOVE THESE THINGS! Maybe it's just me, maybe it's the confidence I have with an iron in my hand, maybe it is the club.... but I am finding my rounds to be quite enjoyable both to play as well as on the score card! As much as I'm still getting used to the shot shaping my distances are spot on. The distance dispersion is incredible. Now just need to fine tune a difference in a 3 yard draw and a 10 yard draw and same w a cut shot. My old clubs were very hard to shape much at all.

My brother in law who I play with mostly, for a "WWE" belt each round,(It's a cheap $20 belt from Target for kids, and even though it won't fit us it fits our bags and looks great on the back of our cart.) said after our first round together that he might not ever get the belt back the way I'm approaching Greens!!

I've had them since last August and love them. Long time Mizuno player and tested these by side by side with the latest Mizuno's at the time and my existing 825 Pros. Hundreds of balls on a grass range and the I-Blades stood toe to toe with all my Mizzys and had far less dispersion. Ordered them with the DGS300 and + 1 degree strong. The finish holds up just fine, no issues at all and no regrets on the purchase. Solid club, classic look ...

My old clubs were very hard to shape much at all.

that's what I noticed with mine as well. The distance dispersion was the best of anything I hit.
