440 blows it out of the water. Way more forgiving and 4-6more ball speed and 1000 lower spin. YMMV

A little more spin adjustability ........... which is why I moved to the 440 from the 430.

"New T-Track System

A redesigned T-Track system with more moveable weight and a longer back track allows for 94% more front-to-back CG movement than the original M1 430cc. Adjust the front track modify left-to-right trajectory and move the back track forward for lower ball flight and more distance, or farther back for higher ball flight and more forgiveness."

Wasn't a fan of the 430, but love the 440. I played the 460 last year w/HZRDUS Black, weight forward and middle and still struggled a little with spin. Currently have a 440 w/Elements Platinum, weight back/middle, and the ball flight is penetrating low launch/low spin. Closest thing to a point and shoot that I have ever played.

My college playing son demo the crap out of the M1 440 today against his Titleist 915 D3. Both the shafts in his D3 and the M1 were stiff 70gm with the M1 1/4 inch longer. Different brands with slightly different launch characteristics but overall feel and weight were in the ball park.

The M1 was a solid 12 yards longer on average with similar dispersion. 106mph swing speed, his average with the D3 is 278yds with a 2600 spin rate. The M1 440 produced a average of 290yds with a 1800 spin rate. He hit around 50 balls with the M1, popping about every 7th ball +300. Not bad for a 5'9" 135lb 19 year old kid.

I have to admit I was slightly skeptical going in. He has been working all winter long in the college swing lab to get his spin rate down with his D3. Going in I told him he might be able to adjust out 200-300 rpm's with a movable weighted driver, but likely he would have to just keep working on his swing(which he will regardless, lol).

We cranked the weight on the M1 all the way forward as a starting point and the spin dropped like a rock. He backed it off a bit to get a better launch and dispersion, but once it was dialed in it was pretty sweet.

No, there's no way everyone is going to gain 12 yards, but it definitely can happen. And yes he was custom fit for his D3, but that was at the start of his high school senior year about 18 months ago. He's grown slightly, and put on a couple pounds since then as a college freshman, but no huge changes in size and stature.

Not that I doubted the technology, but it was cool to actually see it in action and what a big difference it can make. In college golf gaining 12 yards without hitting it all over the planet is a very big deal! I guess I know what I'll be getting him for his birthday in a couple months. Of course he had to hit the $500 one best, lol!

I would agree more forgiveness and more ball speed. Not sure on the spin, I would have edged 430 here. 430 maybe feels better too but 440 is very good. Potentially few more yards and more consistent front to back dispersion. Just a pity it looks a lot bigger than the 430 with the new slimline white section...

Anyone who drops 5 bills on a new driver, better be ecstatic even if it's only a few more yards or a couple hundred rpm. One place I doubt the 440 lives up to the hype, is swing speed. The 430 head is smaller and maybe a couple of miles faster then the 460 heads. Doubtful if the 440 is 4-6 miles faster then the 430 regardless of who's swinging.

I just got done (yesterday) doing a full M1 fitting. The 2017 actually performed inferior to the 2016 M1 for me with same exact shaft. The 440 was better than both. But the 430cc 2016 beat all of them out. Same shaft all four, the spin numbers were awesome at around 2100.

My swing speed is around 101-103 and the 430cc was the only driver giving me 250 carry distances and after rollout I had multiple 280's.

I went for it and took the $125 trade in value on my G30.

Haven't hit the 440 yet, but if it's better than the 430, then it's the best driver head ever made, because that's pretty much how I feel about the 430.

I love the 2016 430 and got great spin numbers with it. Now being honest, the 440 is a little better overall, but not enough to dump the 430 if it's working really well for you.

Would you say it's better overall in comparison to your '16 M2?

Not really. The 440 spins LOT less to loft than M2 does. I'd say the 440 will be as forgiving as the 2016 M1 460, spin about the same as the 2016 M1 430, and sound more like 2016 M2. It also looks a shade larger at address than 2016 M1 430. It's just a perfect combination of all of the 16 model's best attributes.

Thanks JT. I can't believe I'm considering sinking more money into the driver after less than 4 months with my current set up (which I love), but I have a sickness and I'm now on the lookout for 8.5 440 heads.

Quick question - do you know of any differences between the tour and retail heads (other than the lie/loft/open/cr specs)? I can find retail 8.5 heads for <$250 so not sure if it's worth the premium for the tour head here (unlike the M2 where 8.5 was not available in retail). Thanks in advance for your input here.

I'm not sure there is any difference between the heads except for knowing the specs of the head, which is so important that I don't mind paying a bit of a premium for it. If it doesn't matter to you, then try the retail head. They just tend to be quite a bit higher lofted than stated. When we measured all the retail heads during testing, all were at least 1 degree higher than the stated face loft. My 8.5 tour head on the other hand, was 7.8.

il second or third that the 440 is a different animal than the 430.... lower spin and much much better sound and feel out of the 440... and the 440 is as forgiving as the 460 easily in my book.... IF you are a player that need spin reduction.. the guys who claim it to not be forgiving are the ones who cant spin it enough to get it airborne.. 440 is the revised version of the sldr 430.... best of all worlds in my mind..

Add the fact that many guys are trying to stick ultra low/low shafts in this head and it's no wonder they find it hard to hit.

I think it's tremendously forgiving, for the better player. If your impact zone is a 1x1 or even slightly larger area consistently, you'll be fine. If never had a shot with this head where I wanted it to be anything it's not. If you're a player who hits it all around the face, or is very inconsistent with driver strike point, this isn't the club for you. The good ball striker will find it more than tolerant enough of the slight mishit. I was in PGA Superstore one day and saw one of the M2 demo clubs. It quite literally had impact marks on every single cm of the face and some off the paint as well. For the guys who were hitting that, this club isn't even in the consideration. Haha.

+1 I tried this 440 in an 8.5 head (only one they had in the demo bin) at my local range and hit nothing but low screaming bullets. I do not struggle with high spin at all so it makes sense. I hit a 10.5 head a while later and had very different results. The 10.5 head was money. If I were in the market for a new (non-Ping) driver, the M1 440 would top my list.

I've been playing my 430 9.5 for about two weeks now, I'm not sure if it's the honeymoon period still but it's the straightest longest stick I've played. It just flys of the face. It rolls a ton too.

Now I just need to keep my unsettled brain to quit looking at the classifieds.

I didn't really like the 430 head during TMAG fitting. I had rushed over right after work and didn't get to warm up. Took me a while to get into the groove. 430 misses were really bad whereas 460 head misses were not too far from the best shots.

This thread has really peaked my interest in trying out the 440 head
