In a golf ball, I am looking for a combination. If I were to give it an order, I would say 1) feel/sound, 2) spin, 3) durability. I'm looking for a ball that's firm, but not clicky, offers solid green side checking, and can last for a round of golf with no sweat (I don't want wedge marks from a full shot).

 

Is that too much to ask?? lol. Snell balls are great, anyway! Love small New England based companies!

Most important factors in a ball for me are...

Spin - I need a lower spinning ball.

Feel - I've never cared for firm golf balls. Feel off the club face and around the greens is a big deal for me.

Price - Yes ProV1's are nice balls but I'm never paying $4 per ball when there are much better options at lower prices.

When choosing a golf ball, I look for a few different characterisitcs:

1) Sound- If a ball is clicky, I just can't use it

2) Feel- although subjective, I prefer a ball that seems to have a little "weight" to it. I am not a fan of the really soft core balls because I feel I do not get enough feedback from them. They also seem to "jump" off the putter a bit and distance control is more difficult

3) Spin- Once again, to me spin is subjective because 90% of the golfing population does not have a swing to produce it nor have any idea of what they are trying to accomplish. I want to be the one to impart the spin on the ball with the shot I select to play. Yes, I prefer a urethane ball due to the ability to spin it more, but I want to be able to control the spin. I am not looking for the highest spinning ball out there, but one I have total control over.

I look for a reasonably priced ball ($20-$35 range) that has a softer feel around the greens that I can control.

For me price point is a big factor. As much golf as I play to have a premium golf ball at the right price point is what I am looking for. Feel and spin rate are also factors I look at as my short game is the strongest part of my game.

The most important factors in order are spin, feel, and price. I am a very high spin player so driver spin performance is more important to me than wedge spin performance. Feel would be next. Ball has to feel nice off the putter and around the greens. Last is price. I just can't justify spending $50 or so on a dozen balls so I often buy up previous years models or search eBay for deals in bulk.
