Srixon 745 vs 765

Has anyone made the switch? Curious if the 765 really make Much of a difference. One of the keys I've red is the new irons have bigger groves for more consistency. I hit flyers 20 yards further with the 745 than from the fairway. Would love to tighten this up. Thanks

I play the 745's and demo'd the 765's. Couldn't see a noticeable difference.

 

A 20 yard distance gain from the fairway is very unlikely to be the result of the grooves. I've always found distance control in the 745's to be very consistent.

Probably a visual thing as the 6 series looks quite round, otherwise I'm sure performance is pretty much the same.

I bought the 765 because my miss can be towards the toe. This said, I didn't own the 745 before. Love my set.

Can't see the 765 being that much better honestly. The 745 set the bar for me, I have tried many others but can not get away from them. The only time I get a "flyer" is when I get it perfectly in the sweet spot and that's only out of longer grass. Out of the fairway distances are very consistent. They are incredible performing irons. Plus I like the sharper toe design better than the rounded 765.

I have both. It depends on what you like looking at visually. The 745 was squarer to my eye while the 765 is rounder. Performance is just about identical and I can't tell much of a difference between them in performance as a 3 handicapper. Both are excellent.

Thanks for the reply's. If the pro's haven't switched i'm guessing there isn't much of a flyer improvement with the new irons.

 

On another note, I also feel having True Tempor DG shafts as stock helps significantly!

Hearing pros haven't made the switch mainly due to the v-sole on the 765s being slightly narrower and easier to dig.

 

Here's William McGirt on why he still bags the 745s from Golf Digest mag: "I switched to the new Z 765s for a bit, but I'm back to my old gamers. For a steep swinger, those 765s are great at sliding through the turf. We need to dial them in."

That's debateable. The sole is actually thinner which is supposed to be better for sweepers/pickers. It takes a pretty serious upgrade for pros to switch and I think that's why we aren't seeing them switch right now because the 45 and 65 series are so darn close.

That's what always seems to happen when a company hits one out of the park like Srixon did with the 45 series. Everybody took to them instantly. The clubs, for lots of players, had everything going for them. IMO, they should have left them alone for a few years because it appears they changed them just for the sake of change. They'll be one of those clubs that we'll still be talking about 10 years from now. I'd be surprised if the next 85? series doesn't look more like the 45 with different graphics rather than an evolution of the 65's. I had a set of 45's in each; 5, 7, and 9 and liked them all a lot. The wide V-sole wasn't for me but I sure liked everything else about them.

The rounder look is the reason I moved on. Was a fan of the 745s because of the squared off lines. 765 shape echoed AP1 to me which is just too awkwardly shaped.

45 series > 65 series

 

I'll be very surprised as well if the 85 series doesn't return to the squared look. Titleist and mizuno have both produced fantastic square look and straight leading edge with their new lineups.

 

Rounded irons are just a major turn off for a lot of guys. I don't think many long time golfers will see a squared look and not like it though.

I hope they go back to the more square look as most have said it just looks better to most. I will probably have mine refinished once they wear through the chrome.

Really not much difference for a blade they are pretty easy to hit, trajectory a little lower but that could be the shafts, i was playing nippon 120x in 745 buy im gaming the s400 in the 945. Srixon irons are top of the line everyone should at least hit them

I just recently ordered 765 with Modus 130x's in them. I will report back after I get a few swings on them. I did notice the lofts are 1 to 2* stronger than the Taylormade TP MB from 2014 I've been hitting.

Toe hitter here. I found the 745 more workable and did just as well if not better than the 765 on toe strikes
