Dumb question regarding range finders

Because rangefinders aren't accurate enough to use on the green. On the green it is so important to know whether you are 15 feet or 15 feet 6.2543 inches from the cup. The range finders are only accurate to + or - 1 yard. For the green, you need to be more precise. I know my shoe is exactly 12 and 3/16 inches. I always walk the distance putting heal to toe. I then add the the number of times I put a foot down to get a precise distance. I of course have to compensate for slope, so I will multiply the final result by a factor based on slope. A 1 degree down slope = a .89576435 factor. I of course have to adjust slightly if the slope isn't constant all the way.

now that makes a whole lot of sense!

I did use one a while back to determine who got a greenie on a par 3. Long hole both shots were about 35 feet.

Leupold puts out rangefinders that claim accuracy up to 0.1 yard (3.6 inches). Still, don't know how much this would help...

A lot of putting is seeing the line and -- in my opinion -- feeling the speed. I "see" all my putts roll before I even step up to the ball. Then, its my body's job to recreate the stroke that will start a ball on that line and give it the speed to fall to the bottom of the cup.

I suppose it would be a good idea if you had 40+ yard putts. Wait, no... still not a good idea. Pace it off and in the process you'll get an idea of the slope of the green.

For a full swing golf shot I know which club I need to hit for the required distance whether it be hybrid, 5 iron, 7iron, gap wedge, etc. With putting I only have one club for the distance whether it's 3 feet or 30 feet. I just have to hit the putter harder or not. Accordingly it all comes down to feel and judgement versus the same full swing with a different club.

So Leupold take a little, um, liberties in the way they describe their accuracy. For example

https://www.leupold....efinders/gx-5i3

They state

"The GX-5i3 with Leupold’s high performance DNA® (Digitally eNhanced Accuracy™) engine and advanced infrared laser provides faster measurements and increased accuracy displayed to the nearest 1/10 of a yard"

Note the wording "displayed to the nearest 1/10 of a yard"

But if you read the actual specs, it says accurate to 1/2 yard inside 100 yards. It does not state accuracy over 100 yards. It also doesn't register inside 6 yards.

Bushnell is even worse. Their display shows to 1/10 of a yard, but accuracy is to 1 yard.

Herein lies your problem. I can see the future of golf. Don't dismiss me yet, do you remember a time when you had but 2 wedges? Now we have pitching, gap, A, sand, lob, 64 degrees, you name it, we have a wedge for it. I would like to start a new movement, multiple putters for different length putts. "oh, I guess I shall use my long putter here (see, we can find a use for those old long putters), "oh, this is my tap in putter" (some people won't even need this one since they take a gimmie for everything inside 4 feet anyway).

WHO IS WITH ME????????

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
