Hybrid help - or forgiving driving iron

Hey all,

Looking for a new hybrid - or iron like hybrid (e.g., Cobra Utility Iron).

 

Most hybrids can go left on me and go left in a hurry. Drivers, fairway metals, irons....can all be shaped either direction...but the hybrid causes only one shot, and that is a draw that turns into a hook.

 

Looking for something that is as neutral biased as possible.

 

Looking for ideas on different clubs to look at and/or consider.

 

Obviously, would prefer to be super forgiving, but I realize I might not be able to have my cake and eat it too.

Love mine as well. Wanting something around 23* loft.

New fli hi has reduced offset, can flatten lie quite a bit and should give you close to hybrid distance as well. Everyone who has hit it is loving it

I went with a Cobra King Utility and am loving it. I had a Ping G that I hit ok and then went to an 2017 TM M2 and it was awful. The Cobra was just what I needed as I had the same problem as you with the lefts.

818H, MP18 Fli Hi, Ping G400 Crossover are 3 to look at. ;)

For me a hybrid is always going to be more forgiving than a long iron replacement but I had a similar problem with the lefts.

 

The 915Hd is where it is at for me with hybrids. It's still not the most forgiving on the market but it has enough going for it and I feel like I can hit it as hard as I want without it turning over on me. Now that they have moved on, try the 816 or 818H2.

I'm in the same boat as you. I currently have a ping crossover 4 that I'm looking to replace... Since I bought it I got new irons and my new 5 iron is strong enough I hit it almost as far. Really considering the mp-18 fli hi

Itll be comparable in distance and IS far more pleasing in the feel/sound category. Crossover was one of the worst sounding clubs ever, garbage can kicks come to mind

Callaway Apex is worth looking at, sets up square or even a bit open to me. Easy to get up in the air, quality stock shaft as well.

Callaway Epic Hybrid is not a left machine for me. (all the others in my garage were.)

 

Find an 18 degree. It delivers a heavy blow and will go through the rough.

Yeah, but it's that high end metal garbage can sound! Seriously though the OG Crossover is a shock to the system to look down at if you don't play irons with a lot of offset. I tried the 4 and if I played irons like the G series it might have worked out but playing irons with less offset, it was too dramatic of a change. To answer the OP, I've had some luck with various Adams Pro series in the 23* slot. I'll also admit it is the most transient spot in my bag.

I went to golf galaxy today and hit M1 2H and M1 3H both stiff and reg flex. I was all over the place and the distance didn't impress me (I can hit my 4 iron farther). I also hit the M2 3H and it felt a lot more forgiving... still didn't love it. I thought I was going to be walking out with the M1 2H until I hit it a dozen times - no thanks! So now I'm thinking maybe a M2 5W is the way to go...

They are amazing. But even several years old are still going for $200 used... Lots of options out there new for the same price or less.
